There is no documentation of this study ever being conducted. And if you look real closely, this passage is easy because for the most part, the interior consonants are all in the correct order. The ones that aren't are generally just flipped with their neighbors, so they are still close to the relative position. It's really only the vowels that are way out of place. If you truly were to take a random passage and jumble the interior of each word randomly, it'd take considerably more effort to puzzle out.

<font style="font-size: 12px;"> <font style="font-size: 12px;">Yeah, Hoopy. You're not chicken are you? No. Not chicken. Busy with house stuff. Plus, there's a good chance that the Malazan "mafia" game will be next after this one, and I want to make sure that we finish the design. (We're down to the final details.) Plus, with work blocking this site now, I can only get on at night. Once I get my house on the market and Malazan is finished, I'll no doubt play again.

True. But there is at least some bug in your program. Your jumple for "techniques" ends in 'q' not 's'.

Haha, I couldn't help myself (Java since that's what I'm familiar with). For longer words it doesn't hold, so I added a maximum number of character to swap (although a more intelligent swapping like Hoopy suggest would work better, but is too much work ). I cheated with the punctuation by added a space before/after always ;D. Not /in by the way (unless I am killed off in the SDMB game soon ), sorry.

Something that is perhaps relevant to the letter-jumbling.
A long long time ago, I was on a course run by the Department of Transport. Something that came up in one of the discussions (I can no longer remember why it came up, so don't ask) was the policy of lettering UK motorway signs.
The signs deliberately don't use all caps.
This is because capital letters all occupy roughly the same area - a rectangle two units high and one wide. Further, the baseline for capital letters is aligned. This makes it harder to distinguish multiple letters.
With normal case conventions (capitalising only the first word) letters that stick above or below the baseline are easily noteiceable. Thus a driver moving at speed (70mph) in some traffic can more quickly pick out words with a glance. "Birmingham" is easier to read at speed than "BIRMINGHAM", for example. This means they need spare less attention for the task of reading signs.
If you reread Meeko's comment with that in mind, you will see that the order of letters that stick out from the mass (whether above or below) hasn't been changed. That probably helps decipher it.

I'm wary of joining games here, mainly because I don't remember to check in here as often (and also 'cause y'all seem a bit more intimidating here, but I shouldn't let that stop me). I also probably shouldn't start a game while I'm still alive and active in another. But hell, smash bros makes for a really cool theme, and I heard good things about the last game (I think).
So, /in.
How much should I know about the previous SSBM game? Not too much, I hope?
