That's retarded. I hate to break it to you luv, but you know you can read the board WITHOUT logging in, right? I've always been town, and I do it all the time, and I will continue to do it. I'm not what you would call a lurker when it comes to contributing to the game, either. www.r-word.org/

Occasionally people have been known to dissect board logs when trying to determine lurking vs non-participation. Doesn't really seem appropriate at this point, and while all information is situation, it has never been my favorite strategy. Like Dorian I'm online a lot with a million tabs and/or browser windows open. Usually both, and refresh and read quite often without posting. Not sure what to make of luvbwfc going there, but imho peeker was to first to start us down that path and it all seems like a big null tell since bored townies with nothing else to go on will start substituting their own realities in spit of themselves. yeh, and not that i need to justify anything to you. but since i had limited time over the past little bit i chose not to post here. not that's it's really any of yours but the detox centers only allow some very limited time to connect. the fact that i chose that little time elsewhere was my fracking choice. now that i am out i am able to be a little more participatory everywhere.

Post by ComeToTheDarkSideWeHaveCookies on Apr 3, 2010 15:28:28 GMT -5
Peeker, sorry if things are less than pleasant in your personal life. We all have one and none of us are clairvoyant enough to know when another player is having a bad week.
And that really has nothing to do with the drawbacks (read: high false positive rate) of trying to make these sort of cases against each other in these games, and on Day 1 especially.
Personal habits with the interwebs have a huge impact on such 'evidence', so until each of us fitted with an infallible personal tracking device that accurately monitors our every move and can keep track of every moment that we are thinking about the game, and reports it to some monitoring interface that we all have access to...I'm going to hope for some better reasons to suspect people and not be compelled by people trying to interpret my or others' board behavior.
Did you know that I work two jobs with only one day off a week for a total of about 60 hours a week? And that three of those 'days' are actually around 8pm - 3am swing shifts? So, every week, everything about my life does a jack-knife come Thursday evening. And for those 60 hours I am going to be checking each of the 3 games that I'm currently in at least once an hour, probably more, but I'm usually not posting in them each time.
I'd rather play against the players than the moderator when it comes to mechanics, and I'm even more interested in playing against the strategy and intelligence and logic of the other players instead of playing against their schedule and personal habits.
In summary, it isn't necessarily fun and it isn't necessarily accurate, so why do it? And I hope that you realize that I do actually care about you as a person and hope that you are well and happy, even if the only context that I know you in is through these games.

Ok, so I want to get a vote on the table before my office closes for the day (in ten minutes) and I spend the weekend doing family stuff and not playing mafia. It's shameful that right now the vote leader is Clockwork with Pleo's single vote. Vote: Peeker Why? For the same reason Pleo voted Clockwork but with the caveat that I think voting for Peek is more likely to net us scum since it is way out of character for Peek to post so little to a game when he is town.
woot woot. i get my first lurker vote because of some unexpected real life shit. crappy play dude, crappy play.
Only crappy play if you intend for every vote to lead directly to the lynch of the person you are voting for. Early on Day 1 when NO ONE AT ALL IS VOTING :glares at all the rest of the players in the game: sometimes a vote is just placed in order to see what happens. I picked you because of all the lurkers you were the only one that I had even a half of a reason to vote for. Change in play style is meta as hell and I would never base a whole case on it, but I have no problem using meta to try to generate a little bit of reaction info. Of course, my vote didn't seem to really do much of anything so... Honestly, we have 4 pages of what is essentially fluff. The hell?

Vote: pleo
for the unprovoked Vanilla claim.
Truly, there isn't much discussion toDay. I really really hate unprovoked claims, especially of Vanilla.
I see no pro-town motivations for it, despite his implication that there is.
What has held me back from this vote is the hope that something else would happen and the fact that I don't recall anyone every using the unprovoked Vanilla claim as Scum cover.
but it's all I got.

Post by BillMc on Apr 4, 2010 4:08:00 GMT -5
Well round one of this wrestling match is pretty dull - guess it should have been a cage fight to keep everyone around!
I can see how Darth's #33 post could be seen as a slip if read in isolation, and thus lub's reaction to it is more skimming/taking it out of context.
Pleo's unprovoked claim is pinging me - but based on Idle's opening comments, and he can't be out to change sides - no recruitment. Which leaves us with the "special" roles - which means anything not contradicting his previous statement. Given his slip and subsequent lynching on Day1 in Willow@Giraffe (sorry metagamey) I doubt he would make a similar slip that would get him immediately lynched again. So he wants to be a target for a reason - i guess one option is that a "special" role is scotsman - and lynching him wont be a mislynch.
Nothing better to go on today, so
Vote: pleo

Post by shaggy on Apr 4, 2010 8:28:39 GMT -5
Sorry, with easter and all I have been running around all crazy.
Anyways, after rereading I wanted to comment on a few things and get a vote down.
For Pleo I am kinda at a hard place to decide for, due to the fact that as Bill said it is hard to see him making a slip like this...again...Hence why I thought it was a joke, as I have previously stated. Now where it gets hard though is Pleo has come in several times and has not as far as I could read said one way or the other about if it was or was not. This I find curious, as it has been a bit of the discusion today, so you would think he would make an address to this. So it does seem really weird and I would like for him to atleast a bit explain once and for all, was it serious or was it a joke? And if it was serious, why do it? If it was a joke why not have said that already? There is alot of questions that maybe I am missing something here but I do not see the answers to.
Out of the rest of the players all have atleast one post of trying to contibute as best as they can during the holiday weekend save Clockwork . I know I have been busy with family to not post alot myself here. But the one other post I did make has been me trying to get online and participate with my thoughts on the topics being discussed. Being lynch all liars, lynch the lurker, names, pleo , ect. Where as Clockwork I think and agree with Dorian that Clockworks is especially the one player this day that has only done a "Hi I am here, by the way I am town." Now I know the last part probably was a joke but saying so far this day nothing really then a "I am town so do not miss lynch me today." This does also rub me the wrong way. Yes there has been little to go on, today and I understand that, but atleast put in some kind of peanut gallery comment on what you think of the topics we discuss.
So for now I will:
Vote Clockwork
I will pop on again before and after I go tonight for easter dinner.

guess i'll got ltl since i really don't see anything really damning.
vote clockwork
but i still don't get pleo's claim. because it just seems so "scum would never do that" so therefore he has to be scum but since that of course naturally leads to "well that makes no sense, therefore he can't be scum" which of course cycles back to "scum would never do that".
lather, rinse, repeat ad infinitum.

Sister- First post just general basic strategy, then pops in once more to talk about the board itself. Really thin, I know, but it's all I got, and not comfortable lynching either of the other two vote leaders.

Howdy all. Trip went well. Yay for delicious food!
I don't like what Pleo did at all. It hasn't even really given terribly good discussion, though it hasn't been bad. I don't trust the gambit, and DarkCookies IfTown, point A (decreasing of places to hide for power town to hide) make me raise an eyebrow even more. It's not something I considered originally, but he really should have. So either he's lying for a good reason or a bad one, or he made a stupid mistake. We have a detective, who will be able to find the truth - though I will caution any detective to keep in mind that it may be some sort of scum booby trap. The scum probably won't know which for a while, unless they have a detective type, which the rules don't specifically preclude.
However, play I disagree with is far better than nonplay. And random.org sucks. Vote Clockwork

Post by Pleonast on Apr 5, 2010 9:45:51 GMT -5
peeker, read the part of my post that you didn't quote. That has several example of what I consider anti-town. If there's something else in particular you'd like to discuss, bring it up. ok i didn't connect the dots that your definition of anti town play was limited to: lynching liars lynching lurkers lynching scum identified by town detective type roles. got it. Why are you distorting what I said? Contributed the least? What would you have me address that I haven't already? I'm not going to fluff and blabber. I responded to the mod to settle a concern brought up previously with the mod. everyone is just addressing the liar/lurker points which I've already weighed in on. If you're calling me out for responding to the mod, you're an idiot. If you're calling me out for not continuing to talk about something I've already weighed in on then you're an idiot who wasn't smart enough to at least ask me to talk about something specific. I'm not going to waste time re-itterating, so if you want me to talk about something, try bringing up something I haven't already weighed in on. I called you out for going 3 days and 50+ posts without participating, and then when you do post, it's in response to the moderator instead of any player. To me, that indicates that you have been paying attention to the game, but do not want to risk participating. That's a scum tactic. It's every townie's responsibility to continue the discussion. Even yours, if you are town. I agree with this. I will not use board logs and I won't base a vote on them. I recommend every player set their profile status to invisible to prevent this sort of meta-gaming. Please, everyone, keep the game to the game thread.
