Okay, the countdown is fixed. When deleting the hack that FCoD hated, I accidently deleted a period in the countdown hack. Took me forever to find the mistake but I did. Wheew. The name coloring works too. Unfortunatly, when taking it out to reinstall it, I copied something ELSE in between, so I lost the copy of the names and coloring. That means it'll all have to be done again. I'm not going to do it right now. I have this game to catch up on still and then Pleonasts that is starting. In the next few days (on a slow day, like Sunday), I will bump the colored name topic up and have you all say what colors you want again. Anyway, time to catch up on the game.

Both countdown and glowy names work for me in IE. Firefox, however, gets nothing. Happily, I'm spending the next 72 hours at work, and the cpus here force me to use IE anyways.

GAAAAAH!
I simply cannot get online and offline messages to work at once. The system keeps shunting one or both into my personal text.

There is no glow right now, though, anyway. MHaye, hm? So the custom on/off aren't working for you? I see yours right now... it reads Unarmed and highly dangerous. If you mean that it shows up for you as your personal text at first, well, yeah, it will for a few seconds if your computer is slow. But it should load up correctly after about 5 to 8 seconds. Working for me...? Is that what your "offline" message should read? Unarmed and highly dangerous?

What you see is my online message.
If I put anything in the "offline" message (well, anything over about 6-7 characters long) it doesn't show, and the system adds some odd characters after my personal message.
Hang on a mo and I'll put an offline message in and log out.

When logged out I don't get a custom message and my personal text appears as follows :

I've got it.
What it appears to be doing is storing the messages I want in my personal message field, after the message and enclosed in [square brackets]. The online message is preceded with on: and the offline message (which will be "Rusting in the corner") with of:
The personal message field isn't long enough for all that plus my actual message. When I put in a five-character offline message, everything works just fine.
I don't suppose we can get an extra 25-30 characters in the personal message field, can we?

Okay, I think I figured it out. Your problem is, all three things (your personalized text, the online message you're trying to use, and the offline one you're trying to use) are too long.
The script for the custom offline and online hacks seems to sorta go into/take the place of space that is used for your personalized text. So you can have that personalized text...but only if it's short. Or, you can have something long there, but choose short-ish on/off messages.
Basically, to put it the simpliest: The line where you put in personalized text has a character limit. I think it's about 25 characters, maybe thrity. So you have that number of characters to play with when making not only what your personalized text says, but also your online and offline custom messages.
There MIGHT be a way to make it different and I'll be looking into it. But for now, it's basically shorten up the text (like me, who doesn't have anything there, or like Roosh, who has one line)....or make your on/offline messages shorter.
Again, I'll try to make it so it can be longer.

Indeed, a GMTA moment Dotchan has run afoul of the same problem; you can tell by the fact her personal text has grown a "Border >" message. Personal text can take a lot more than 25 characters though. I have a 55 character message, plus the online and offline messages.

I see dotchan tried the same thing. Hahaha, dot you have a limited number of characters you can use.

HAHAHAH, we did. I didn't even see your dotchan post either.
By the way, I thought you had the music of a horn in your profile? Also Dio had one, as far as I remember, but it's not on there anymore.
Am I the only one who has a song/music in their profile? Mine still works to you guys, right?
I'll have to check Roosh and atarus's profiles, I remember they had music too.

Roosh's does.
I intend (but have not yet tried to find) the Trumpet Hornpipe. CatInASuit may remember that tune, if he's old enough (I think he's too young for it though).

UPDATE
I've found/learned that putting things like apostrohpes and other punctuation (other than things like periods, exclamation points and question marks) also screw up the custom online/offline message, so be careful with the characters you use. Words, spaces, and some punctuation is found to be fine, but I've learned that apostrophes and quotation marks and especially virgules royally screw up the javascript that makes it up.

I just did. It's not in the space it needs to be. You have it in your sig, it looks like. The space bar for the link is empty, meanwhile.
It's below the list of the skins when you're modifying your profile. Put the link in there, as is (as in, from the http to the end of the link. Remember, it must be a direct link to the music/song...not to a webpage that plays music/a song)

UPDATED
Well, okay. Much like the Custom on/offline message is dependant on the size of your Personal text message under your avatar, so is the profile song/music dependant on the size of your signature.
Turns out the code for the song is invisibly included in your sig, so if you are using too much of it, the song won't work. Therefore you always want to leave space for a song link in your sig if you want to use the music/song profile option (however, again, the song link won't show UP in your sig. It will be invisible since it's a script/code/tag/whathaveyou. But the space is still needed for it)

GREAT UPDATEI have found a loophole for both the sig and personal text character limits (so people can have any size sig they want and still have a song/music play in their profile and can have any size personal text they want under their avatar but still have a long on/offline custom message.) It's really simple. The censored words list. I have already set hockey's sig to read "M2 - Beat Cop - Killed by the Mafia (loss). Hispanola - Vanilla Crew - Alive at the end (win). Crazyville - Therapist - Killed by the Psychos and my Lover Kat took her own life - (win). Cult of Sekham - Alchemist - Blowed up by the Cult - (win). Firefly - Vanilla Crew - Alive at the end (win). Pleonast's Conspiracy - Detective - Eaten by Werewolves (win). BladeRunner - TBD ". But what YOU all (and she) sees is her original signature. This is becuase "M2 - Beat Cop - Killed by the Mafia (loss). BladeRunner - TBD " (but without the quote marks) is censored to read her entire original signature...however in the modify sig space, it only takes up eight characters! Plenty of room for a song/music if she wants. So there you go. If you want a song or music in your profile that everyone can see, but don't want to take anything out of your signature or make it smaller...just ask me to censor a smaller word (like #cookiesig for cookies) so you still have room for that "invisible" profile music code. Same for the personal text under your avatar. If you want to have something long, yet still want to fit in whatever you want for custom online/offline messages, just tell me..and I'll copy whatever you have for a sig/personal text and set a shorter word in it's place via the censored list. Please, hold your karma giving. Even though I know FCoD alone probably wants to give me back 100 times what he took away from me today. Kidding kidding. Sorta.

Can someone tell me if my profile music works please?
|

|
Post by Idle Thoughts on Sept 28, 2007 20:34:33 GMT -5
No, but I can see why. The link you have for the music isn't a valid link. It's not a direct one. I see what you did, though. You must have copied the source from properties. What you want is the link that's under the title (if you're getting it from projectplaylist). Usually this will end in .midi or .mp3 or some other sort of audio file ending.
If you like, I can look up what song you're trying to find and either give you the link or put it in myself.
