Day 1
Mar 31, 2010 5:46:37 GMT -5
Post by Idle Thoughts on Mar 31, 2010 5:46:37 GMT -5
This is DAY 1.
Vote in blue. Unvote in red. Mod questions in green. You can only vote for one person at a time. If you want to vote for someone else, you must first unvote the person you're voting for.
Days will last about four regular days..while Nights will probably last about two-two and a half days, unless things end way before in either case.
There is no auto lynch number...Days will go on the full length and whoever has the majority at the end will be lynched, so nobody ever has to fear "starting a countdown" or "dropping the hammer" vote.
No talking at Night in game. Not this time, sorry.
And that's just about all. If I've forgotten anything, let me know or ask me in here or PM..although if I feel the public should know about it, I may anonymously quote it.
Day one will last until Sunday, April 4th.
GO!

Because it's wrasslin and I had nothing but fluff to say before class. Didn't realize the board would do that to my / me though. Hmmm. That would be an interesting mechanic indeed. I shall ponder upon that for a while.

Idle, Idle, Idle... You should know better than to turn us loose on a Night 0 thread with no instructions and expect us to correctly read your mind as to your intention to silence strategy at Night, which is exactly why I asked you what I did in my first Night 0 post. A soft claim and many acknowledgments of the claim and an attempted vote on the soft-claimant isn't exactly strategy-free posting. Hopefully it all works out to no net effect for any of the factions.

As far as I can tell there was no Night 0, only a Day 0, so I think the goings on in that thread are fair game. Also, I didn't see any soft claim, only a real live full claim.
Interesting game already.

An interestingly slow game. Come on, I only have my lunch break to post to this game today (as far as I can tell). I post at the start, I eat lunch, I expect to come back and see something new...I get nothing.
I am very disappointed in you all.
I will check back before I leave work toDay, time permitting.

All right, let's get this party started.
Lynch All Liars. A liar is someone who commits a sin of commission, not a sin of omission.
I define a lurker as someone with a low post count who also doesn't contribute much to the game.
There's no recruitment mechanic, per the mod, so we don't need to worry about that.
There's also probably no miller, so we don't need to worry about that.
Finally, WTF Pleo with the unprovoked Vanilla "claim" during Day 0? I'm not going to vote you for it, yet, but What The Hell?

Post by DorianPhoenix on Mar 31, 2010 17:19:54 GMT -5
I strongly disagree with the "lynch all liars" philosophy as a blanket stance. Town power lies ALL THE DAMN TIME. And I for one am generally fairly reluctant to lynch a potentially outed town power role simply because they lied earlier in the game.
I really hate all-encompassing strategies like lynch all liars, lynch all lurkers, vote early/vote often, etc... because each individual game isn't played in a vacuum so applying one strategy to all your games just seems reckless.

Interesting game already. Yes, you're right. For whatever reason I was parsing the "I'll tell you on Day 1" as meaning it was Night 0 at that time, thread title be damned. Sorry for chastising you, Idle. I like Dorian already. We who publicly embrace the right of power roles to decide for themselves if they want to lie seem to be scarce. My only caveat is to try and be particularly smart about it when doing the risk analysis to decide if the gamble is worth it to the Town as a whole.

I don't have an issue with power roles lying, IF they do so for a good reason and IF they are willing to accept being lynched for it. Don't be like Pede and lie for the sake of lying.
On a different note, I would like to point that we are dealing with a game that is drawn from a very specific canon with good guys and bad guys, and not a too tremendously large number of them. It may be beneficial to name claim.

It may be beneficial to name claim. I'm fine with a name claim, however Wrestling is notorious for switching allegiances, factions, etc.. so not knowing a specific time frame for this game muddies the waters quite a bit. Example. If someone claimed being "The Rock" are they Corporate Ministry Rock (Heel) or Rock Feduing with McMahon and Triple H? (Babyface) Hulk Hogan could be hollywood Hogan (Heel) or "Real American Hero Hogan (babyface). Shawn Michaels could be HBK (face and heel, Montreal Screwjob) or D-X Era (again, both, renegade but "over" with the fans)

Except over there I'm known as "Ben" Were you lying badly? 1) I am incapable of lying badly. 2) II think we were on opposite sides that game and we had a disagreement that stemmed from game philosophy 3) I'm incredibly modest and I've found that people don't know how to react to it. I'm fairly certain you took offense with my unflappably calm nature. And not because i was aggressively calling someone stupid or something else equally unlikely.

Plus, changing from heel-to-face and vice versa is pretty much about half of the plotlines in professional wrestling. I don't know if there are a lot of wrestlers who haven't been both at some point or other. That being said, I'm one of the few that I know of that was a perma-face while he was active.

I can only think of, off the top of my head, Ricky Steamboat, Koko B. Ware and Hacksaw Jim Duggan.

<font style="font-size: 12px;">I don't have an issue with power roles lying, IF they do so for a good reason and IF they are willing to accept being lynched for it. I think it was on this board, I was an investigator and I lied. Was it Space Hijack? I had found a Scum early in the game, I seem to remember it being the first Night I wasn't blocked, and wanted us to be rid of him...so I lied and said someone passed along the information to me. No one seemed to have a problem with it when I truthfully claimed later in the game. But cases like that a rare. Wow! that's just like me. Calm, quiet, unflappable, never calling anyone an idiot... Though, this game is the debut of the new Special Ed, now with more tact and fewer posts!

That's one of the reasons I thought this would make a good themed game. Names give away nothing. No hint as to what side they could be on, as the wrestlers I've used in this game have been, by and large, both good and bad guys many times in their careers.
Offtopic, since I can't help but get into good wrasslin talk: Wouldn't the Ultimate Warrior be considered a permaface too? I don't remember a time he was ever a heel.
ETA because I can: Oh yeah, no editing.

I can only think of, off the top of my head, Ricky Steamboat, Koko B. Ware and Hacksaw Jim Duggan. Sgt. Slaughter had one of best turns as a heel. I distinctly remember my ten year old self getting quite indignant about the whole thing, what with the first Iraq War going on and what-not. I don't remember the Ultimate Warrior ever being a heel, either, but yes, I am one of the three wrestlers you mentioned.

May not work, but can I request that day end be on Monday? I am driving to spend Easter with family on Friday, then driving up on Sunday - I'll have some time on the computer, but it will be limited.
Was Vince McMahon ever a face? This game could be like Batman, in that the good guys are the scum, but that seems like it'd work much more poorly when there aren't fixed sides, and the game is as unknown as this.
