Day Two

Post by The Authors on May 29, 2010 19:01:00 GMT -5
By all outward appearances, the night following Caladan Brood's death was a quiet one. Those with a sensitivity to magical auras knew far better. The first night since the Ascendants renewed their conflict was a terrifying miasma of a host of warrens, among them Kurald Emurlahn, Meanas, Denul, Omtose Phellack and Rashan.
Elsewhere, meeting in darkened allays and distant corners of the burned-out city that the Ascendants had occupied, others continued to negotiate alliances while trying to dodge the all-too frequent clashes between Ascendant powers. As rumours and innuendo spread, one piece of information seemed to be constant: Red Skeezix was a member of the House of Chains. The whispers moved into high gear as this was digested. Was the information reliable? Who was the source? What was the evidence? And who would take the risk of presenting this in public? As plans were set in motion to counter the threat, others dealt with the situation more ... directly.
Red Skeezix AKA Karsa Orlong, Knight in Chains, will be witnessed no more. He was a member of High House Chains.
As the Ascendants approached the central square where they'd held the previous day's vote, a sense of unease overcame them. Something was waiting for them. Something powerful enough that even the least sensitive of them could feel it. Weapons at the ready, they inched their way to the square, only to find it deserted. Bemused, they cautiously approached the very centre of the square, only to find a single wooden card lying there. A card of the Fatid, one none of them had ever seen before: Sanctuary.
This ends the first day of the Malazan Game of the Fallen.

The Clan Roll has been posted to the Crippled God's Tent. If you believe that you are a member of a clan that is not listed in the Roll, please contact us and we'll get it all sorted out. If you can forward us the PMs that you sent to form the clan, including the date and time, it would be helpful. Thanks.

Great color, mods. Started book two, but kindle broke, damnit. Second time this month, but I will say Amazon has the best customer service when I called on the warranty. I called at 1530 on a Friday afternoon, I had the replacement by 1000 Saturday morning.
Sorry to digress, but that's the best customer service I have had in years.
Now to go back and reread Day 1.

Ok so I finally finished reading through day one. First things first I suppose. I think this is kind of lame and a reason why I don't put lie detector roles in my games but: I am neither the Master of the Deck of Dragons nor am I a member of the House of Chains.
Anything more I haven't really fully absorbed, and of course I'm missing all of the private communication that Hal had, but I'm here and semi-caught up

The Dead Roll:
luvbwfc, Role Investigator/Serial Killer
Idle Thoughts, Weak Guardian
Red Skeezix, House of Chains Member
We know that luv was lynched by vote; I'm curious about the secondary power: Serial Killer. Did he use that on Idle before dying? Or was it another Hoc member or Master of the Deck who exercised a Day kill? Or, was it another player who has a Daykill ability and suspected Idle of being Hoc/MotD?

If his(luv's) serial killer ability was what he stated in his display of his role pm, and from what I saw I have no reason to doubt it, then no. He was a serial killer in as much as he could choose to kill someone he'd previously investigated, rather than make another investigation. Since he died before he could investigate anyone at all he couldn't have killed anyone.

Did he use that on Idle before dying? Or was it another Hoc member or Master of the Deck who exercised a Day kill? Or, was it another player who has a Daykill ability and suspected Idle of being Hoc/MotD? I think there are still two killing roles out there. The daykill ability I suspect will turn out to be the MoDD. The night kill ability obviously knew, or at least strongly suspected, that Red was HoC, and got rid of him. That's how I read it. Which begs two interesting questions: who are the two killers, and how did the night-killer know? One thing I DON'T think is that the two killing roles are actually one person. A night-kill and a day-kill seems way too much power for a single player, unless they're conditional on something happening. And if they are, well, whatever condition there is has been met both times. Luv's power was conditional, if he was telling the truth; and he could only kill once every two nights at the absolute most.

Well that is good news that we've now got one less HOC to find.... but.
Looking at the clan roll .... apart from my primary clan. I still feel like I have 12 "minor scum" teams .... The MODD and some more HOC's to get rid of before I and my clan can win the game.
HONEST MOLEY says they think there are 2 killing roles in the game. I feel this is a pretty simple assumtion and hasn't taken into account the possibilty of any roleblocks that might have been used and maybe successful last Night (no SPECIAL ED this is not insider information it is looking at the wider picture) unless HONEST MOLEY knows something and wants to divert people from looking too closely at it.

Erm... what? Firstly, I don't know what on earth is the "something" I'm supposed to know that I'm diverting people from by stating what seems to me to be a pretty obvious suggestion - that there's probably two killers, not one. Secondly, how the heck could a roleblock cause someone to die at night? Are you suggesting that Idle or Red had some kind of ability whereby if they were roleblocked, they'd die? I've never come across that, ever. Explain yourself in both cases, please.

Actually, to make one thing clear: I think the MoDD is probably a serial killer (given what my role PM says about his win condition, it's likely he has a killing power of some sort) and was more likely to have killed Idle (who wasn't to my mind in any danger of being lynched) than Red (who is now confirmed as HoC). That's why I singled out Idle as the more likely victim as the MoDD.

I couldn't have put it better than SINJIN myself... I mean that to say there could be more than 2 Night Kills in the game but one of them might of been blocked by a roleblocker... your post only stated what is there for all to see and didn't go any further to suggest any other possibilities...
That is why I asked if you "knew" something and my "suggestion" that you were trying to divert people is because you seemed to want to brush other "very quickly" the actions that we have all seen happen in this game.
Of course we still have to try and work out if SPECIAL ED is on the level with his Lie Detector claim but so far he's done nothing that would appear to be "anti" with regards to it.

Well, Occam's Razor says there's some sort of daykiller, based on the two deaths yesterDay. And I don't know if there's really anything other than a SK in this game, given that we're all third parties--I think a Vig is necessarily town-aligned, and there's no Town in this game at all, so any rogue killer should probably be considered a SK.
So I guess I'm wondering why you seem so shocked at that series of assumptions, Bill? They're natural assumptions to make.

Due to the nature of this game I don't think even serial killer is an effective description. I'd have to go with killing role simply because any killer in this game is going to end up in a clan and at least nominally work along with them.
I might give the MOTDD a sk denomination, but only because it seems that he specifically must kill most of us, seemingly regardless of clan allegiance.

I had that lynch colour worked out months ago and then the first thing they go and do is throw Cotillion, of all roles, in the Azath. Rest assured that Cotillion is well and truly lynched and is dead as far as the game is concerned. It was pure coincidence that he ended up being the first lynch victim -- I wasn't hinting at anything. Let's just pretend that the rulers of Shadow failed in whatever they've been trying to do with the Azath since we last saw them in the canon, and there's been a falling out of sorts.

Oh, I see. Although would've preferred to have heard this from him first. We are one day into the game and if I'm right about there having been two killers acting last night, that means we have three confirmed killers in the game already: Luv, whoever killed Idle, and whoever killed Red. I'm not ruling out a fourth by any means, I'm just pointing out that looking at the kills that we know about, it seems likely that there are at least two killers still left alive. And I'll make this clear: if there's any reason to believe there was a third kill attempt that was roleblocked, I've not heard about it. No information suggesting anything of the kind has come to me.

To me, a serial killer is a third party with a recurring night- or day-kill. Well, we're all third parties, and somebody obviously has a night-kill, and somebody (most likely a different somebody IMO) also has a day-kill. Whether they're recurring or not remains to be seen, but the rest of it seems accurate enough.

Well, Occam's Razor says there's some sort of daykiller, based on the two deaths yesterDay. It seems like a day killer would unbalance the game because he/she could just join a clan and give the clan a kill everyday. Unless the day killer can't join clans or something, which would make him his own clan with a unique win condition. Not that I have any other suggestion for how we got two people killed instead of one yesterDay.
