JSexton and Sachertorte were both barred from playing because they had signifigant imput into the game design. And therefore have information that would break the game. But a big thank you to both of them. You will be able to see them around, and talk to them all about it after you die in the Secure Moniter Viewing Room. And you all should go exalt them a few hundred times. This game would be much more confusing and bizarre without their help (and not in a good way, either). Yay for JSexton and Sachertorte!

I was actually hoping JSexton would be around. We've run into each other on gaming forums for, what is it, about a decade now? Oh well, count me as confirmed, and confused. Not sure how to play this game as closed as it is. Oh well, here's to flying by the seat of our pants, in the finest Firefly tradition.
Enjoy, Steven

If you've followed any of the games played here or on the Straight Dope recently, their format is open. Prior to the game starting, all players are provided a list of possible roles with descriptions of powers, etc. No one but the scum or certain townie groups/relationships knows anything about who is assigned which roles.
In a closed set up, each player only has insight to his/her own role description prior to the game starting.

So, all we know is our own role, that some people kill other people, and what our win condition is right? There may be more than one group of "town" and more than one group of "scum". If there are numerous win conditions, couldn't we end up with a situation where "an enemy of my enemy is my friend, but also an enemy of mine"? I'm assuming that there will be at least some type of good guys versus bag guys element to the game (that is the point of the game isn't it?), or is this version more of an "every man for him/her self"? I guess you could divide us into killers and non-killers, but I'm not sure that would help any of us get our win condition. Also, I have no problem believing that there could be some sort of gray area between the two as well.
I'm corn-fused.

I have this horrible feeling that we will not find out what is truly going on until we are either a) dead b) have finished the game and NAF/Kat goes "Congrats you have won" and everyone goes "Huh? We Did??"

From the note about the game, however, it almost sounds like as if there are scum (in the form of Alliance spies), townies(passengers onn the shift), and then townie power roles (I'm guessing crewmembers, perhaps paassing shepherds or Cortesans, etc.), who may have a seperate win condition all to themselves. So... all the power roles become like the Non-Believers in Idle's game?

Upon rereading the opening post, I guess the whole idea of an "informed minority" being seperate isn't quite the same as having a seperate win condition like scum or masons. Still... this wholw closed set-up is oogly. And I still don't have any clue how people determine what looks scummy on Day One, but in this game, it's morei mportant than ever to make sure we get a lynch in then... My head hurts. Pass me a beer or three.

Don't worry too much. Despite the theme-y-ness of it, the game is not hugely complex. Especially if we forgot to make those 14 people Chia Bingo Managers.

Actually, I prefer this Closed setup. It makes for a better game. I think this game has the potential to be an easier game than the other ones. And I do wish you wouldn't say so much during the night, Diomedes....
