England, 923 A.D. Without warning the tempest broke. With a rapidity which, at the time, seemed incredible, and even afterwards is impossible to realise, the whole aspect of nature at once became convulsed. The waves rose in growing fury, each overtopping its fellow, till in a very few minutes the lately glassy sea was like a roaring and devouring monster. White-crested waves beat madly on the level sands and rushed up the shelving cliffs. The wind roared like thunder, and blew with such force that it was with difficulty that even strong men kept their feet, or clung with grim clasp to the coconut shells. To add to the difficulties and dangers of the time, masses of sea-fog came drifting inland—white, wet clouds, which swept by in ghostly fashion, so dank and damp and cold that it needed but little effort of imagination to think that the spirits of those lost at sea were touching their living brethren with the clammy hands of death, and many a one shuddered as the wreaths of sea-mist swept by. At times the mist cleared, and the sea for some distance could be seen in the glare of the lightning, which came thick and fast, followed by such peals of thunder that the whole sky overhead seemed trembling under the shock of the footsteps of the storm. GOD: Arthur! Arthur, King of the Britons! Oh, don't grovel! One thing I can't stand, it's people groveling. ARTHUR: Sorry. GOD: And don't apologize. Every time I try to talk to someone it's 'sorry this' and 'forgive me that' and 'I'm not worthy'. What are you doing now?! ARTHUR: I'm averting my eyes, O Lord. GOD: Well, don't. It's like those miserable Psalms-- they're so depressing. Now knock it off! ARTHUR: Yes, Lord. GOD: Right! Arthur, King of the Britons, your Knights of the Round Table shall have a task to make them an example in these dark times. ARTHUR: Good idea, O Lord! GOD: 'Course it's a good idea! Behold! [angels sing] Arthur, this is the your quest. Look well within the people whom you trust for it is your sacred task, Arthur, to seek all threats to you land and your people. That is your purpose, Arthur... the elimination of the Holy Scum!! [boom] [singing stops] LAUNCELOT: A blessing! A blessing from the Lord! GALAHAD: God be praised! BEDEVERE: And how do we know it was the One and Only Lord? Because his eyebrow was shaped like a banana! Day 1 will last until Monday, 7 February 2011, 10 AM. (Ullz time = Danish time) Link to countdown

Did you receive it as a solo thing, or as part of your Scum Orientation Packet?

Confirming PM receipt. I think I need to remind people that grudges are bad. Don't go killing off a player just because she led you down the garden path, giggling like a madwoman the whole time. Wait until the Mods complain of finding horse's heads in their beds. Then kill her. Also, just because a player has been Mafia-aligned in the last three games means nothing about this game. Nothing at all.

Just in case anybody missed it in the rules thread, it's been announced that mods will be creating fake role PMs for players on the fly, during the game. I've made my case, that I feel this breaks the game. My preference is that I continue playing, because this game looks like fun. But I think it's only fair to let my fellow players know that I won't be taking this game seriously, and if enough folks are bothered by that and want me to back out/held the mods find a sub for me, I will. Please don't consider this an indictment of the mods. I understand why they've made the decision they have, and I respect that. They're just wrong, is all.

Kid. Take a look at this. You want serious? With that source material? I've actually played in one game recently (Dark Knight, on GB) where Ulla did this. The game wasn't particularly broken, as it came down to a final four. IIRC, when she's done this before, the Mafia start with cover roles already written. So give it a spin, and see what happens.

IIRC, when she's done this before, the Mafia start with cover roles already written. So give it a spin, and see what happens. This is the crux of it - I've got no problem at all with pre-fab cover PMs. I've issued those myself. My bitch is with the willingness to assist with them on the fly, to match whatever the scummy situation demands. I consider that tremendously unbalancing. More often than not it's either Town skill or a Scum screwup that forces scum to post a fake PM, and denying Town the chance to that scummer by using goofs in the fake PM breaks the game. Nobody is storming off in a huff, here. I like Ulla, and I like Ed, and I want to play. I'm just saying that I'm no longer in it to win, and if anybody is bothered by that I'm willing to back out and let somebody else take my spot.

I'm bothered by that. I also think, having played in multiple games with this arrangement, that you are jumping to conclusions about how it works in practice and quite wrong about it being game-breaking. Looking for misplaced commas and out-of-character syntax is far from the strongest or most reliable way to find faking scum, and by far the least enjoyable.

It's one thing to 'not take the game too seriously', but it's something else to'not care'. If your heart's not in it, perhaps it's best to bow out and let someone else come in who really wants to play.

Peeker, you aren't Spartacus. You are Castiel and you blew up. Remember?
It was neat.
I don't really get why Kid thinks the mods helping make pms or whatever is a bad thing. I've never heard of it, but it seems like a pretty cool idea to me. I'll probably steal it for one of my games in the future.

The moderators helping to write roles on the fly would certainly helped last time I wrote a fake role (for scum Denethor as town investigator). A scum used it Day One but due to being too fancy with the powers and grammar errors it got ripped apart and the scum lynched. A more believable claim edited by the moderators might have prevented that lynch (perhaps not if they left in the fancy restriction I had made up). The town investigator wouldn't have claimed since it was Day One so the bad PM was definitely a big factor in the scum getting lynched.
And to get some suspicions rolling: Mahaloth was moderator there and he finds it cool idea and Plankton was the scum that got lynched and he hasn't directly comment whether he like the idea or not.
Note that the fake role PMs were all vanilla (just names really) and there were only four names for five scum. The offer to help write fake PM is definitely a plus for scum. I do understand the motivation to offer it but I hope it has been taken in account with the balancing as well.
