Everyone falls on Starrirain and lynches her.
Starrirain was.....
Town.
I will be saying "Town" to mean VANILLA town. If they are ever anything else, I will specify that.
OKAY, it is now NIGHT.
You can still talk about the game and all, but NO VOTES. Votes will not be counted.
If you have a Night action, submit it now. SCUM, you may start talking on the TOP SECRET scum boards that you have access to.
Night will end on MONDAY at FIVE PM (AZ time).

Oxbow Incident anyone? www.imdb.com/title/tt0036244/Yeah, I know. In this game mislynches are just part of the landscape. But this is my first game and first lynch. And she was town. Oxbow Incident came to mind immediately.

There will be 5 power roles in this game. Only five, no others. 1. There will be a secret number of Detectives. 2. There will be a secret number of Doctors. 3. There will be a secret number of Masons. 4 and 5: There will be two secret roles (two of one and one of the other). THERE IS NO RECRUITMENT.Anyone done further ruminating on this? All the action takes place at night, right?

Hi everyone (and welcome to the many new players) I am trying to read and catch up with the game - but there sure was a lot of talking Day 1 I can't promise to say very much about the game until after this weekend, but I will do my very best to be fully participating when we get to Day 2.

Nice to see you again, jeez, we managed to kill off Town on the 1st Day. Were there scum amongst the bandwagon? Surely yes. Ed this is not scum gloating but you are more likely Town in my opinion. The argument about you having PIS just died.

@mr Ed and wombat 99, being a new player, I had wondered if the games usually follow a set pattern. So when someone had stated earlier in the thread that chances are that we will kill a town on our first day, I wanted to know if we had managed to overrule those odds.

Town.Makes me wonder if there are any hard and fast rules for a TOWN player to prove their role, or if any defence tactic would be seen as scummy by default. Think of so-called witches in the Middle Ages trying to protest their innocence and the only accepted proof being the hot oil trick.

I wonder why she didn't defend herself at all, except if she saw how my defense was quickly hurting me. Defending myself certainly didn't help at all. so *shrug* I have no clue what an experienced player would or should do if the bandwagon starts coming around. I wish there was a private town board. Not quite fair that the new scum have a place where they can talk strategy, but we're left out in the open like easy targets.

It's a strange thing to just accept your fate like that. I honestly think I would be kicking and screaming, but we'll see later how I end up. I wish there was a private town board. Not quite fair that the new scum have a place where they can talk strategy, but we're left out in the open like easy targets. I think that's the point though, if we Town people got together, we'd just tick off who wasn't in that group ;-) (Needs a Fonzie 'hey' here) ;D

Thanks - nice to be seen again It appears that our mafia-wiki is gone This makes me very sad. I really spend a lot of time trying to keep it updated. Anyway - just to introduce myself: I am Danish and this might show in my very personalized why of phrasing things and spelling words Also I love to play mafia and do it when ever I have the time. That is just really not often enough. But Idle asked me to come and play and who can say no to Idle Michelle, I don't know. I wonder why she didn't defend herself at all, except if she saw how my defense was quickly hurting me. Defending myself certainly didn't help at all. so *shrug* I have no clue what an experienced player would or should do if the bandwagon starts coming around. I think the best way for a vanilla townie about to be mis-lynched is to ignore the votes on them and instead just post as many as their ideas and theories about other players. We can't know if they are right - but after the lynch at least we will know that their motivation was a townie-one. Still reading Day 1 and will try to put something together as soon as I've finish celebrating myself on mothers-day ;D

But if you don't get lynched does that not 'out' you as a townie to the scum for next time ? Correct me if I am wrong but don't the scum already know who is scum? I think I read that somewhere along the line that scum already knows who is on their team. That being the case would mean that you have always been outed as being town. To my knowledge the only thing they don't know about town is who holds the power roles. Sent from my SCH-I405 using ProBoards

Well I was waiting to see what starrirain had to say when she finally came back on here as she seemed the best choice but I felt we needed to hear her defence. And I'm afraid I find that she is even more suspiscious now...too confident in what she is doing for someone who claims to be new...and even she is saying to vote for her - so I will. Vote: starrirain
I have a question for lianne: What made you think that starrirain said she wanted you to vote for her? Could you point me to that post? I would think the fact that she didn't vote for herself shows that she wanted to lynch another player than her - meaning that she didn't think her lynch was the best way for us to go...

A "lurker" is a person who reads discussions on a message board but rarely or never participates actively. Some mafia players believe in the "lynch all lurkers" theory (meaning they vote to lynch the player who rarely participates in the discussion of the game). I generally do not lynch lurkers in Day 1. However, this is a big game and there are so many newbie players, and it is easy for a lurker to hide. To encourage participation, I am going to "watch" if there will be any lurkers. As a numbers guy I always use excel a lot. I have a google doc that counts the posts of all 60 players in the game and Idle Thoughts the MOD. docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AhIF2QGffiNhdGZDS2RHczl3SlNYLXhzb3QyTWNPLVE#gid=0Everyone should be able to see it. Column A is the player name and column B is the total post number. If the link does not work let me know. Day 0 posts were counted, and I will update the Day 1 post count regularly. Totally OOG (out of game) - I hope you're okay, Kagemoto Anyway I wanted to hear if you would care to share your lurker-list from Day 1. Also I'd like to hear what you think of the fact that it is possible to lurk in plain sight. Meaning you can post a lot of fluff and non-game-related content. This way you can keep up your numbers of posts without actually saying much or contributing to the game. When you look for lurkers - do you take that into consideration?

PSA: hey you, newer player, come back here. Really , folks, Mafia/Werewolf CAN be fun. There are even bunnies ( I do not like the bunnies but I’m making a point) We’re just avatars in chat boxes. Getting overheated is not the norm. It ain’t personal ( granted it gets that way sometimes but it shouldn’t) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now back to discussing who we all want to kill [grin] Bolding and size is mine... Interesting phrase to use. Kill. Hmmm... Usual Town will Lynch and Scum will do the Killing...

ok, now that I have read everything I have some thoughts and I am ready to vote. Vote: Meeko[/color I chose Meeko because he just seems too focused on Pleonast. The "hey look at this post" that Meeko used when dealing with Pleonast just hit me as off. I'm not a fan of Pleonast either so only time will tell with that one. @ crysThis is pinging me. You have thoughts and wants to vote. You pick Meeko but while doing that you keep the possibility open that you might switch to Pleo. The post was #227 - so it was rather early Day 1 and it looked like the Day would very much be all about either Meeko or Pleo Can someone tell me how I unignore myself? Somehow I have chosen to ignore myself and I don't know how to undo it....and while I'm at it I'm going to Unvote: Meeko because I am no longer sure that is the correct choice. Not that I am sure what the correct choice is at the moment.
However you end up not voting and not being sure of anything. So what made you change your mind - not only in regards to Meeko but also in regards to Pleo? Why were you not a fan of Pleo? Was it the claim or was it something in his posts that made you think this way? What did you think about Gadarene's post about leaving Pleo for Day 4?

I am going to vote for starrirain My reasons for doing so are that being new to the game I am having to heavily rely on players who have more experience. Since I don't know how a newbie scum player is likely to behave, I agree that disappearance after posting a potentially scummy message is a sign of fear. I could be wrong but the clock is ticking and until day 1 is over, we aren't going to know better. Bolding is mine. No, you don't - and you really shouldn't. Because those players might be scum trying to manipulate you into voting the way they want you to vote. You should be heavily relying on your own sense of what seems right/wrong. Or put in other words: What looks pro-town/anti-town. You should be trying to figure out what makes sense to you. See (unless you're a mason or a detective later in the game) you only *know* your own alignment. You can't be certain of any other player in the game (unless you're on the Scum team). So you *know* that your motivation in trying to help town. This is a big asset to you. Don't throw it away thinking you have to rely on others telling you who to vote for. As it turned out - the players lynching yesterDay was wrong...

Vote StarrirainSame reasons as the last few for voting for her as opposed to anyone else. I think someone said earlier that we could almost be assured of killing off a town person on the first day, so looking forward to finding out if that theory is right.... Ping. Ping. Ping. This is really a big "me too"-vote. I know others have already called you on the "looking forward"-comment and I didn't really like that one either. But could you perhaps try and sum up why you voted that way and not just point to the fact that you have the "same reasons". Was it her first "scummy"-remark that did it? Was it her reply where she didn't panic because she was about to be lynched? What made you think "THIS is where MY vote will go"? You don't have do dig up all the details - but it would be nice if you would be a bit more clear about what reasons you agreed with.

Pleonast Can you explain this? (or anyone can explain) I'm not quite understanding the Doctor roll. If the Doctor can keep people alive, how do Scum kill? Just trying to get the nuances down before Night 1 starts! Vote DizzymrslizzyBecause she is very interested in when Night begins and how to kill. @ Wombat: You kept your vote on Dizzymrslizzy all Day 1. Was this the main reason or did you add to the case? I tried to go back and look but I must have missed it. Are you so pleased with the vote that you will place it again Day 2 based on the same case?

All work and no fluff makes me a dull girl ELSEWHERE What prevents newer players from claiming ignorance as a defense instead of claiming scum? Nobody is ever going to claim scum. Can you elaborate on your question? Actually Santo Rugger did that. In my very first game on these boards. It was a ballsy play but it didn't work out very well for the scum. A funny detail is - it was also a game hosted by idle

<font style="font-size: 12px;"> I do not know who any scum are for sure, but the whole point is to be suspicious of others right? But if my lynching will save our town power role (Pleo, please be town rofl <crosses fingers>) then I will take that mislynch for the sake of the town, no hard feelings guys I see many of you say it's more than common to lynch a townie on Day1, so better a vanilla than someone with a useful power. We can always watch Pleo in the days to come for those of us who are still suspicious regardless. I'm willing to take the risk for the time being. I understand that sometimes you have to take one for the team, but it seems a bit strange to me to do that on day 1 and as a newbie to the game...but as she turned out to be Town, I was obviously wrong. Sigh.

PS I went a really roundabout way to get those quotes to work (can't believe it did work, to be honest!) - is there a simpler way to get the Quote function to work when posting something from an earlier thread?
Plus I have now had to go onto Firefox as it told me off for using Chrome. Humph. Even suggested I use Internet Explorere. As if!

I don't know. This was my thinking: being a newbie myself I had little chance of picking out an experienced scum on Day1, so I wanted to try to pick out an inexperienced scum (greater chance for an innocent slip up). So I looked closely at Day0 comments, thinking, how would I respond if I were new and had just received a PM giving me a scum role? I didn't see any evidence against anyone else strong enough to make me change my vote. Also I think dizzymrslizzy's touchiness is an act. But, I'm keeping in mind that this is a team game and I'll vote on Day2 the best vote for Town, whatever that is. Going in to Day2, we know that the scum knew that they were lynching a town, so it seems to me that the starrirain voters are a logical place to start scum-hunting.
