I am going to vote for starrirain My reasons for doing so are that being new to the game I am having to heavily rely on players who have more experience. Since I don't know how a newbie scum player is likely to behave, I agree that disappearance after posting a potentially scummy message is a sign of fear. I could be wrong but the clock is ticking and until day 1 is over, we aren't going to know better. And you are so right, but that's also hindsight playing along. I will start making my own decisions from this point onwards. With reasoning. Bolding is mine. No, you don't - and you really shouldn't. Because those players might be scum trying to manipulate you into voting the way they want you to vote. You should be heavily relying on your own sense of what seems right/wrong. Or put in other words: What looks pro-town/anti-town. You should be trying to figure out what makes sense to you. See (unless you're a mason or a detective later in the game) you only *know* your own alignment. You can't be certain of any other player in the game (unless you're on the Scum team). So you *know* that your motivation in trying to help town. This is a big asset to you. Don't throw it away thinking you have to rely on others telling you who to vote for. As it turned out - the players lynching yesterDay was wrong...

I'm back. Thanks for those who wished me well.
For those who have no idea what happened, I had a RL physical issue. I am not 100% and I need rest, which means I will not be participating as much as I did in Day 1, but I should be able to keep playing. And you should not consider my RL issue as a factor when we play.
Now back to business.
Idle, is there a Day 1 Final vote count?

PS I went a really roundabout way to get those quotes to work (can't believe it did work, to be honest!) - is there a simpler way to get the Quote function to work when posting something from an earlier thread? Plus I have now had to go onto Firefox as it told me off for using Chrome. Humph. Even suggested I use Internet Explorere. As if! when I'm quoting from previous threads, I just go into the Day's thread, hit reply, and then copy and paste what I want to quote either into a reply box for the current Day or into Word, then I can reply in the current day's thread.

Hmm that's what I did in the end but it seemed like it should be possible to use the "Add Quote" funcion at the bottom of each post if not the "Quote" one at the top of each post.

PSA: hey you, newer player, come back here. Really , folks, Mafia/Werewolf CAN be fun. There are even bunnies ( I do not like the bunnies but I’m making a point) We’re just avatars in chat boxes. Getting overheated is not the norm. It ain’t personal ( granted it gets that way sometimes but it shouldn’t) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now back to discussing who we all want to kill [grin] Bolding and size is mine... Interesting phrase to use. Kill. Hmmm... Usual Town will Lynch and Scum will do the Killing... I was being a smart ass of sorts = sometimes my humour falls flat

lianne to get the quote in a box you need to start the sentence with [ quote ] and end it with [ /quote ] but do not have the spaces in that I did .. I have been clicking 'quote' at the top right hand side of the post I want and then deleting all the bits in the post I dont want if you know what i mean

Ping. Ping. This is really a big "me too"-vote. I know others have already called you on the "looking forward"-comment and I didn't really like that one either. But could you perhaps try and sum up why you voted that way and not just point to the fact that you have the "same reasons". Was it her first "scummy"-remark that did it? Was it her reply where she didn't panic because she was about to be lynched? What made you think "THIS is where MY vote will go"? You don't have do dig up all the details - but it would be nice if you would be a bit more clear about what reasons you agreed with. It was a really big "me too" vote, as I did not like the interactions between her and dizzymrslizzy, I have to go on gut, as i am not really sure what else you can go on. Apparently this time my gut feeling was wrong. As for my other statement about looking forward to seeing whether or not someone else's statement about day one usually lynching a townie, I wanted to see if we would beat the norm (as this was what I believed from that statement was the norm).

ok now I am totally confused. If Scum all know who is Scum and who is not Scum, what keeps Scum from just picking off Town one by one? It's like Town is Redcoats and Scum is in Camouflage. Other than turning attention from themselves who would benefit a Scum from voting off another Scum, and lessening their ranks? Whereas Town, not knowing, can easily get rid of another Town and unwittingly lessen their ranks. Another point, is it really fair to pit noobs against seasoned players. There appear to be nuances and strategies that noobs are clueless about, and as a result might hurt themselves or other noobs. It's all so confusing.

They need to put up fake reasons to go after someone. this is why leaving reasons along with your vote is so important. Also, in nearly every game Town out number scum by a multiple. 3 or 4 townies per Scum is average. 5 townies per scum is not unheard of. Too far down this road though and we start talking about power roles ans Jsexton points, which is a can of worms best kept closed for this game.

Also, "scum bussing" is a common tactic. If as scum, a player offers up a scummate in the right way, he gains "townie cred". townie cred being that players assume someone is town, and follow that persons advice, to town's demise.
There of course are other ways to gain town cred, illegitimately. Some players just act as if they already have it, and may or may not construct a fiction to that end.

As for the learning curve, you guys are doing great. I think a lot of you got the base mechanic down. fun comes in learning how to refine game play.
I'm an older player relatively speaking. but to most of the older players, I'm new. There is no magic pill to take. There is no way to make the process go faster. You learn at your own pace, and you continue to learn.
And then again some of us learn that we still have tons to learn..... Like me , and this game so far already.

The main advantage Town has is numbers; hopefully we can get them before they get us. And the power roles.

Kage, if I may ; I think the question was to discern if there are any roles that affect votes, if some votes are doubled, forced, removed, etc.

NETA. I read Kage's question, and that was the rationale I had for the question. As it is a good question, I would like an official answer as well, even if we have to indirectly conclude it with the day 1 ending vote counts. I doubt that a new player game would mess with "vote math" as it were.
That's right gang these games can be a lot, lot harder to crack.

I've read through all of dizzymrslizzy's posts and I just don't see anything to indicate Scum. She may be guilty of jumping in with two feet without getting the lay of the land first, but she seems genuine to me.

So I understand we all have to wait around for Scum to do their bit, but what about these mysterious roles...when do we hear from them? I haven't really got the hang of what they are or when they contribute...
Or have you all run away to have a life for a couple of days lol. Oh dear I think I'm hooked...!!

Also, I am not sure if it is a good idea for a MOD of a mafia game to claim laziness when lots of players in this game are newbies...

Hahaha, you may be right.
As I said, though, there can't be that much of a difference between my last vote count and whatever the final one was. The ones after my final count didn't matter much anyway, by way of things...but I can see why you'd want it if you wanted it for reference later on (as in, to see who voted for who at the last minute). I think there were only one or two votes after my final vote count update, though.

I believe this is the final vote:
Vote count: day one
starrirain - 14 votes (Mr Special Ed, colby11, Gadarene, septimus, Pleonast, mchlle71, dizzymrslizzy, lianne, richardbeckman, supermel, jmj697mn, annem, ascime, lauriern)
dizzymrslizzy - 6 votes (Suburban Plankton, wombat99, Silver Jan, Paranoia, cathi, starrirain, LadyRogue but too late to count?)
Pleonast - 6 votes (CatInASuit, BillMc, Meeko, cassiepietz, michelehunter, francescaj, jlrinmke but late)
Meeko - 5 votes (Inner Stickler, amykb, patricia, annetastic) Suburban Plankton - 2 votes (Mahaloth, texcat)
texcat - 1 vote (guiri)
Guiri - 1 vote (Susan K Murphy)
Mr Special Ed - 1 vote (oldred)
cassiepietz - 1 vote (kagemoto)
annetastic - 1 vote (allyjayne)
michelehunter - 1 vote (Lightfoot)
Lauriern - 1 vote (Hal)
Gadarene - 1 vote (jerelijah)
oldred - 1 vote (PhoenixPhyre)
Note that the last votes on Pleonast and dizzymrslizzy came in late, though I do not think there is any meaning to that since the votes would not have/did not effect the outcome.

Okay, just checked now.
Final vote count was
Vote count: starrirain - 14 votes (Mr Special Ed, colby11, Gadarene, septimus, Pleonast, mchlle71, dizzymrslizzy, lianne, richardbeckman, supermel, jmj697mn, annem, ascime, lauriern) Pleonast - 7 votes (CatInASuit, BillMc, Meeko, cassiepietz, michelehunter, francescaj, jlrinmke) dizzymrslizzy - 6 votes (Suburban Plankton, wombat99, Silver Jan, Paranoia, cathi, starrirain) Meeko - 4 votes (Inner Stickler, amykb, patricia, annetastic) Suburban Plankton - 2 votes (Mahaloth, texcat) texcat - 1 vote (guiri) Guiri - 1 vote (Susan K Murphy) Mr Special Ed - 1 vote (oldred) cassiepietz - 1 vote (kagemoto) annetastic - 1 vote (allyjayne) michelehunter - 1 vote (Lightfoot) Lauriern - 1 vote (Hal) Gadarene - 1 vote (jerelijah) oldred - 1 vote (PhoenixPhyre)
So only two more people voted since the last update I gave. (well one unvoted and voted...and the other put down their first vote).
LadyRogue's vote didn't count since it was after Day ended. Jlrinmke's came in RIGHT at the deadline, so it counts.
