Something I've been thinking about...

The good news: I have a pretty good feeling that there is another detective out there. The balance of roles makes it likely.
The bad news: They're probably on the non-participant list. The fact that we haven't had a claim makes it very likely.

However, I'm going to play optimist for a minute here and plot things out as if we have another detective who is investigating every night doing an awesome job of keeping a low profile.

If that's the case, then my first thought would be "Good job -- but it's time to reveal". If you're out there then you've got as many as eight unique results, but more likely three or four, what with cross-investigations and your targets being offed at night.

Now, if you want to keep going the way you have been, more power to you -- you've obviously been doing a good job of keeping things under wraps. But if you can give us, say, four townies (or even one scum), then that, coupled with my last to investigations (both town), we'll have a nice pool of confirmeds. Yes, they'll all be dead in a few Days, but we'll at least have a shallower pool in which to find scum in the meantime.

Also, continuing to work under the assumption that there is another active detective out there, I'm taking the list Colby11 posted above and splitting it in two. Until further notice, I'll only be investigating in the top half of the list, from #3 to #33. That way the possible other detective can work on the bottom of the list and we don't waste investigations by both looking at the same person (I chose the top of the list because my name is on the bottom -- I don't want anyone thinking that I don't want to be investigated myself).

See this is my feeling. Why pick off two newbies? I don't get it at all. You have confirmed Silver Jan. You have a semi confirmed Hal. You have Archangel, GnarlyCharly, Guri, Inner Stickler, Paranoia, Suburban, and Total Ulla to choose from that would be better IMHO NK targets. A doctor isn't protecting all of them.

Well, Hal is probably being protected by a doctor, SilverJan is obviously not a doctor so scum's main target right now will be to find and kill the remaining doctor(s). Inactive players, those who haven't posted in days or weeks, are unlikely to be the doctor protecting Hal, players who have subbed in are slightly less likely to be docs, so that leaves everyone else...

Now, there are other reasons why scum don't appear to be targeting experienced players, including CIAS, Meeko, Ginger:
- we're all scum and obviously don't want to kill ourselves
- there are a couple of scum among the experienced players and killing off some of them would make the others' survival even more suspicious
- there are no scum among the experienced players remaining so leaving a bunch of them alive might cause a mislynch or two if enough people bleat about how suspicious it is we're alive
- the remaining experienced players are not posing a threat to the remaining scum
- the remaining experienced players are causing emormous threats to the remaining scum such that killing them off would expose them

I feel that your case against TexCat was a long string of confirmation bias. That you were correct is just luck. From your post at idlemafia.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=mara&thread=1952&page=2#94829 :

Texcat's first post simply rang alarm bells for me. The fact that she appeared concerned about my vote, which was intended as a joke, comparing gnarly's post to SilverJan's, when SilverJan was actually responding to gnarly, and asking why I'd voted gnarly over SilverJan, when SilverJan didn't do any of the things I'd accused gnarly of. She then goes all protective on Pleo, first a pressure vote on cassipetz, then switches to jm697mn, still a pressure vote to give vote reasoning, and then another pressure vote on Suburban for his random vote, and that's it for D1. Where's the scum hunting, where are the accusations, why all the defending on players whose alignments she should have no idea about? Why are not "pressure votes" scum hunting? I defended Mchll71 with no idea of her alignment. To me this paragraph is a long string of silly suppositions. Maybe if I was more experienced at this game, I would read it differently (it is beginning to seem like silly suppositions is all we really have.)

I agree that my vote on LadyRogue was weak, but to me all of the votes that day were weak.

I too find his resurgence after Pleo died suspicious, and I've found his behavior slightly suspicious the whole game. Also found his response as to why he wasn't suspecting me slightly PIS-ish.

The biggest impact I remember from you was your sever-Day-long tiff with Pleonast, for which I still can't see a reason. I know, Pleonast flipped Scum, so that's supposed to convince us that you are Town. I can't see a reason for that either.

I'm not going to apologize for my part in getting Pleonast lynched. You can drink the wine you gave yourself there on my motives. No point in me rehashing what I have already said, done, or claimed.

So to be clear, you are going after me, because I am playing, and not saying anything about the non-players. .... Got it. (No, I don't)

I am playing one of my better games. There have been many games where I have let off of players who have later turned out to be scum. If that's how I find them, I'll work to grind that out.

But ok, since you asked, yes, it's because you, like Patricia, like Pleonast, are on me. And if both you and Patricia are scum, there would be more value in lynching you first, given your experience.

You Have been on me. I'm not sure what other cases you have on other people, but it does seem to be we are in lock step here, as I have been with other people.

If you are suggesting that this is an Identical situation to the one Pleonast and I had, I'm not sure I see the down side.

Yep... it was touch and go there for a few hours this morning before Idle subbed me back in. Started to get the shakes.

I'm not sold on Patricia being Town, but in looking things over, I have a different candidate I want to highlight: Annetastic.

She made 13 posts before Day One even started.

On Day One she makes a couple of n00b posts, gets some good logic in, claims she might not have the wits to make it in Mafia, and tries to help out fellow n00bs with things she has figured out (like quoting and coloring). [nothing that pings, but it shows that she's interested in figuring things out and helping n00bs get a good experience.]

On Day Two, she wants to know how a Scum was "lynched" in the Night. [yes, many of us were a little confused, but maybe she was completely thrown because she thought she knew who was "supposed" to "die."] A minute later, she adds in "not that I am complaining," perhaps to cover a little bit. Then, she agrees with a few posts, offers a little theorizing of her own, then promptly disappears for a few weeks. [she did mention she'd be gone for a while back on Day 0.]

She returns to vote Meeko on Day 5, agreeing with Patricia's reasoning to vote him. [she had agreed with a generic post Patricia made on Day 2 as well, which may or may not mean anything. I suspect she just pays extra attention to posts from those she "knows" from packrat.]

Day 6 is a vote for Annem and a thank-you to Hal for doing a good job investigating. [expected behavior from anyone.]

She misses Day 7 but mentions "glad we got a scum though yay" on Night 7... then suggests that Patricia might be scum, based on Patricia's vote for Meeko and how "at home" she feels posting - but at at that point, anne had made ~38 posts to Patricia's ~35, so they were really about even. [and, although 13 of anne's post were before the game really started, she also missed a few weeks, so it balances out fairly well.] She says she "can't seem to grasp the game," despite the fact that she had a few thoughtful posts herself in the first few Days. [Perhaps, as numbers began to dwindle, she was getting nervous about standing out...]

But, then it gets interesting. On Night 8, anne apologizes for not being too active, as the game isn't her "cup of tea." [not that big a deal that she's not a fan, but the night before she was suspicious of those who ARE more active... odd, no?] In the same post, she mentions that she would have dropped out but doesn't want the bind Idle's in to be any worse. BUT, she also suggests that many of the newbie inactives must be town because "special roles" would be more interested in playing. [Not only do we know that not to be true (MHaye was the third person to be #15, a Doctor, and Septimus #2 spawned into a Mason's spot), but it could help to explain why she feels such a need to keep playing - she sees scum as a "special role."] In her next post (ten minutes later), she says

which is kinda a little bit of everything - it's an immediate post she could be aiming to be generic enough that perhaps it would cover her previous post and what you could read into it. it's also a contradiction - first, she says that voting MicheleHunter as Scum would feel like a betrayal, but then says that if she thought Michele was Scum, she'd have no qualms voting her. So, which is it? Could you vote for Michele or not? Maybe she didn't feel the need to take a definite stance because, if anne was Scum, she might know Michele is Town, and therefore it would never be an issue. BUT, Patricia is also from packrat, so either anne doesn't know her in that game (completely possible, as I don't know anne in that game and I've been playing it for four years) or something else is going on - maybe a bus to get some Town cred (as others are suspicious of Patricia as well, and she was almost lynched yesterDay), or maybe the whole contradiction was fabricated to get people to pay attention to that post over the one right before it.
Later, she says "I would look at the ones who have not posted much but seem to be trying too hard to fit in." - even though she's suspicious of Patricia because she's posting too much. [again, all over the place in some areas.]

bottom line, vote annetastic for inconsistency in what she's saying, what she's doing, and what she's using to find people suspicious.
