"The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgo-wait wait wait, that's the wrong beginning. Dagnabbit, I grabbed the wrong book! Oh crap, is this thing still on! Quick quick turn it-KSHT!"
The 29 occupants of the Space Station Nexus look around at each other bewildered. After a few minutes of terse silence and a bit of impatient foot-tapping, the main screen comes on again. A crazed-looking Pollux appears on the large television. With a weird, unnerving smirk on his face, he taps on the lens of the camera, leaning forward.
"Hello, hello, can everybody hear me okay?"
"Yeah."
"Sure."
"What the bloody hell is going on?!"
"Okay, okay, I'll get to explain in a, whooaaa I need to step back from the microphone so I stop talking in bold. Okay, everybody still here me? Good." Pollux attempts to shuffle and stack papers in front of him to look business-like, but they end up spiraling into a complete mess and spraying everywhere. He coughs nervously and folds his hands together.
"Here's the deal-i-o. I'm Pollux. I've been chosen by the Gastards as an Envoy. They've brought you all here for one reason and one reason only. Their amusement. You're going to play a game of mafia for them. From what I understand, most of you already have had experience with it."
There's some shuffling of feet among the occupants of the space station, nobody looking particularly happy. Clearly quite a few of them had already met their grisly deaths via lynching, decapitation, runaway vehicles, knives, spoons, forks, African swallow, European swallow, man-eating plants, and so on and so forth, in mafia games held before.
"All of you should be familiar with the game, then. Each Day, you're going to vote to lynch somebody. Each Night, more of you will die bloody deaths, screaming in agony while your compatriots blissfully sleep through your cries of terror." Pollux smiles warmly into the camera. Crickets chirp, until somebody realizes there are no crickets on the space station. A minor freak-out ensues.
"People! People! Calm down!" After a few more minutes of freak-out, everyone returns to attention. "Thank you. Now in case any of you are wondering, I'm locked tight in the main hub here, so you can't come and kill me, and none of you are returning to your rightful dimensions until the game is over. Okay? We're all clear? Good. Night Zero is commencing, and soon all of you will find out which roles you are going to play in this. Before that, there is an announcement for you about one of your fellow players! "
Pollux waves at the screen before he blinks off. In his place, an advertisement appears and scrolls across the screen.
The message repeats from the beginning and continues to scroll.

Summary
Bidding on the Mercenary is now open.
While the Mercenary is alive and participating, everyone gets two votes. They cannot be for the same person.
Only the highest bid gets votes cast against them, and they are only revealed should they cause the bidder to be lynched the next Day.
It is now Night Zero.
Role PMs will be going out shortly.
Night Zero's end and Day One's beginning will be edited in here once I finish sending out role PMs.
Feel free to ask any questions of the mod about The Mercenary and other rules in this thread.

THE MERCENARY FOR HIRE
Votes are a precious commodity! And so is acting at Night! Have you ever felt you needed to perform two Actions in one Night to successfully win the game? Well guess what? Now you can, by hiring The Mercenary!
Every Night, starting with toNight, Night Zero, eligible players can bid votes against themselves to retain The Mercenary's services for the next Night! So if you bid on Night Zero and win, on Night One The Mercenary will carry out your orders! Only the winning bidder will have the votes cast against them during the next Day, and the votes will only be revealed should that person get lynched. Is that too complicated for you? Let's go to an example!
Sue bids 4 votes on the Mercenary! Bob bids 3, and they're the only bids! Sue wins! She automatically has 4 votes cast against her the next Day, but only she knows it! If, at the end of the Day, Sue has 3 votes cast against her, but Bob has 8, Bob gets lynched because 3+4=7 and 7 is less than 8! Nobody knows Sue bid on The Mercenary, and everybody's life goes on! But if Sue gets 5 votes cast against her to Bob's 8, Sue gets lynched due to her own greed because 5+4=9 and 9 is greater than 8. Let's all be sad for Sue.
Understand?!?!?!
At Dawn of the next Day, the highest bidder will be informed if they won! Then they'll get a list of services that The Mercenary will provide for them, and they'll have all Day to submit their choice to The Mercenary! At Dusk, The Mercenary will receive his assignment and carry out his duty on your behalf!
But what if there's a tie?! Simple!!! Everyone who tied for highest bidder gets to make a choice! At Dusk, the Mercenary will receive all the request and choose the one he wants to carry out! That makes sense!!!!
The only restriction is you can't hire the Mercenary two Nights in a row! Similarly, if one person from an allied group with the same win condition (i.e. scum, third party groups, masons), the rest of the group cannot hire him the next Night either! So scum cannot monopolize The Mercenary's actions! Yay!!!
One last thing! While The Mercenary is alive and participating in the game, every player will get two votes to cast during the Day! They cannot be for the same person, though!
