A loud chime signifies the end of the Day. The players aren't entirely sure where the grandfather clock came from, or how they'd been telling time previously since they were in space, but they just rolled with it. It wasn't the weirdest thing to happen to them on this voyage by a long shot.
After a long discussion, Silver Jan was pushed forward, the crowd's decision for an untimely demise for the day. They waited expectantly for Pollux to appear and pronounce judgment. However, when the screen flickered to life, all they saw was a straw dummy, sitting in Pollux's chair. Written on a sign around the dummy's neck was "ON VACATION" which confused the players, since they knew he couldn't leave the room.
Either way, the screen clicked off without a recap of the day's events. There were the beginnings of a hubbub when suddenly the large hooded man appeared. He stomped through the crowd, heading towards Silver Jan, who stood quaking in fear. She looked meek, mild-mannered, a little scared, even, as the large executioner leaned down to face her. "Are you ready for your sentence?" He asked.
And then Silver Jan's demeanor changed. She straightened up and her eyes took on a frightfully evil look. "I will not die today!" She held out her hands and concentrated, clearly attempting to do something to the executioner. He was unfazed. With a mighty blow he brought his fist downward, knocking her flat to the ground and disrupting whatever she was planning. She didn't get back up.
Hefting Silver Jan limp form over his shoulder, he walked through the space station, the rest of the group following at a safe distance. The hooded man reached a large see-through vat of acid, which, as far as the rest of the players could tell, hadn't been there before today either. As they got close, Silver Jan began to stir on his shoulder.
"Let me go! Do you know who I am? Do you-" The rest of Silver Jan's protests were cut off as she was tossed easily into the vat of acid, and her protests turned to screams of terror. Her clothes melted from her flesh, flesh melted off her bones, and then soon her bones began to disintegrate too, all the while she screamed. But after the screams died out, all that was left of Silver Jan were three items that slowly sunk to the bottom of the vat of acid. The group gathered around to inspect them: a Roswell alien plushie, an Uncle Sam recruitment poster, and a book entitled "How to Destroy Town in 6 Easy Steps"
Silver Jan, aka Hex (Scum One-Shot Recruiter), is a wee bit dead now.

Also, also, Scum may have to select a killer rather than killing en mass.

Also, also, Scum may have to select a killer rather than killing en mass. true. however we don't really know if she targeted peeker or was redirected. also in other games, if you are the chosen killer, you don't get to use your power. well maybe it was a group kill and Silver Jan was just unlucky enough to be seen trying to recruit.

very nice! interesting though that she doesn't have a killing role. Why should she? She said she targeted Peeks directly, did she not? That was Dizzy. Jan said she had targeted someone other than Peeker. But I'm inclined to think that the Scum select their killer and maybe have some roles that might allow extra killing, like perhaps Guiri's murderer.

No, she claimed to have targeted gnarlycharlie and been redirected. dizzymrslizzy claimed to have targeted peeker directly. But as you pointed out, if the Scum have to pick an individual to perform their kill, she could have been it on Night 1.

I would believe nothing that Silver Jan ever said. Occam's Razor says she was wielding a killing stroke that Night regardless of what she said she did or what her role was.

Maybe she carried out the kill? We don't know for sure...
But knowing how many scum are left will be important come tomorrow

One thing we know for certain now, is that there is the possibility of Scum recruitment in this game.
Is it better for us at this point to know how many Town we have left, or how many Scum?

very nice! interesting though that she doesn't have a killing role. We get the correct result! for the wrong reasons. I suspect that happens a lot in Mafia Games. So she was only able to attempt a recruit one time? And used it on Night One? And lost the chance when Peeker was killed? Silverjan had the Creepy Doll. I wonder if there are any further ramifications from that?

My hypothesis: Night 1 scum confab and decide to hold onto the oneshot recruit until they have a better idea of who to target and elect Jan to carry out their kill as the other scum all have abilities without restrictions. Another player activates the Killus and sets it to Peeker. Jan gets caught in it along with me and the merc who has been charged by KidV to kill someone. Subsequent days everyone toodles along trying not to betray any extraneous knowledge but when Meeko drops his tracker bombshell, the decision is to try to create as truthful a cover as possible so Jan claims recruiter, which she is, and that she was visiting to recruit Peeker which is plausible but not true in this case.

So she was only able to attempt a recruit one time? And used it on Night One? And lost the chance when Peeker was killed? Yes, a one-shot power is a power that can be used once per game as opposed to most powers which can be used once per cycle. We don't know if she was using it N1 but in my considered opinion she was the scum killer that night. The fact that she was a one-shot recruiter leads me to believe that Pollux sees scum recruiting as swingy. I have a hard time believing he'd give them multiple chances at a one-shot so I suspect we're either at 4 scum or 3.

<snip> Silverjan had the Creepy Doll. I wonder if there are any further ramifications from that? And she started Day Two with a bumped head and a curse. Which would seem to have had no ramifications whatsoever...

I suspect that happens a lot in Mafia Games. She was Scum. Therefore, she had a killing role by default. Also, I at least voted for her because of her "recruitment" slip, which was also the right reason. That said, though, you're right more than you are wrong.

Does anyone else want to weigh with WAGs on the Merc?
By my count this is what I've got:
Merc is more likey to be a mechanic Peeker Cookies
Merc is more likely to be a role occupied by or connected to someone on the player list patricia Inner
I don't think there is anything necessarily incriminating either way, but crowd-sourcing perspectives can only help, imho.

My working theory is that the Merc has no idea he or she is the Merc. Pollux assigned someone to the designation for the sole purpose of (randomly?) limiting the Merc's "lifetime" in this game. The Merc's activities do not alter the activities of the player assigned the Merc.
It is above my pay grade to figure out how role blocking/redirecting might work out with the Merc.

I just think it is too complicated that way.
Merc as straight-up role shitty to play no free will high risk of getting busted for someone else's shit can be ordered to kill him/herself can potentially gain huge insights into what is happening in the game even if they aren't informed of who wins each bid, but especially if they are informed of who wins each bid
Merc as relatively straight-up role but cloaked from being witnessed shitty to play no free will can be ordered to kill him/herself can potentially gain huge insights into what is happening in the game even if they aren't informed of who wins each bid, but especially if they are informed of who wins each bid
I was going try and extrapolate a sort of sleep walker role as patricia suggested, but I'm not familiar with that type of role. The biggest sticking point I can see is if the sleepwalker is vulnerable to witnesses when dong Merc duties, it would still be a shitty role to play
