So I'm toying with creating a Team Fortress 2 themed game, and because of that, I'm thinking of having Respawn (i.e., Dead players coming back to life--as a result, no reveals would occur) be a factor in this game.
Except I can't figure out for the life of me how to make it work.
There needs to be some delay between Death and Respawn for Deaths to even be meaningful (and trigger Endgame conditions), but how long? How would you separate Day-Lynched Deaths from Night-Killed Deaths in terms of calculating delays? (For example, would a Day 1 lynch and Night 1 kill come back at the same time?)
There also needs to make this balanced in some fashion. Pure Respawn, if happening fast enough, seems to me a major Town advantage--they can just spray and pray, since it wouldn't decrease numbers as fast as a traditional game. Having some sort of non-zero chance of a Dead player respawning as Scum instead might make people more reluctant to indiscriminately lynch or NK their fellow players, but that seems like kind of a gastard move even if everybody knows about it--it would almost be a soft recruitment mechanic.
So, suggestions? Or I should just stick to traditional mafia, with the TF2 parts as flavor?

Dotchan. Pollux put a single respawning role int he All-Star Gastard game. Peekercpa would return to life after a set time. The time grew by one-half a Day for each kill. Perhaps you could adapt this a bit? My first thought would be to have the length of time between respawns tied to the total number of players killed in the course of the game? My guess would be that without some way to get reveal information the game would be very frustrating.

Yeah, like MHaye said, I had a role that came back to life, but his goal was to get killed.
Building a game around respawning would be interesting. There's two ways I can see doing it: One, have the respawn rate be linked to their powers/role. The more powerful the role, the longer it takes them to respawn. Vanillas respawn quicker, detectives and doctors take longer, and on the scum side the godfather takes the longest, etc.
Another idea is that each time a player respawns, they have the ability to change classes if they want to. So when they return to the game they have adjusted their power based on what they think the Town needs.
The big hurdle I see is that once a scum is identified (through a detective or other means), though, it kind of breaks the game because whenever they respawn they'll immediately be the target of the lynch/vig kill/etc. Also with no reveals, the town never gets any information whatsoever that's reliable, so it will always been just shooting in the dark.
I think there's a possibility for a game in there, but it'd take a lot of tweaking.

Maybe no reveals, but have everyone vote for someone to resurrect every Night, and that person can come back. They can also elect not to bring anyone back as well

Lynch the top two, give scum two NKs, and give each player two lives. No reveal until second lynching? Then again, that would just add weirdness to the game, but contribute nothing to the core mechanic IMO.

The current plan is to have information come in the form of Night kills--every killing role has a different method of murder, so if they choose to do so and succeed, the Dawn post would reflect that. I prefer my Nights to be nothing but fluff.
