Okay, so....Proboards 5.0 is coming out. It's apparently got a new look, many new features, new upgrades, new everything pretty much. And I have the option of getting it early if I want.
Pros to this is obviously having new software and features and who knows what else.
Cons to this is that we'll lose a lot of things in the upgrade, such as codes that give us some of the cool features we have right now (like the karma levels, the fancy news feed, the custom on/offline titles, smiles (yes, that means the bunny)). It's possible that some of these things can be added back...but it's not for sure.
Anyway, I have three choices. I must make one of them.
1. I can upgrade asap (as soon as everyone wants me to). If that's next week, I'll do it if people want it.
2. I can wait until April 29th. This is when most boards will change over to Proboards 5 automatically, including this one.
3. I can choose to OPT OUT of the change until Dec 31st, which is still 8 months away...but when that date hits, the boards will be upgraded automatically. It cannot be put off any longer than that, it's out of my control.
Personally, I'm okay with upgrading asap, but I'll do whatever the members want.

I'd prefer that you do not upgrade until the current game has ended. Then any potential board disruption will be between games.

Thanks for the note Idle, I'd forgotten to check my boards for a while.
I'm updating them currently. I can let you know how they turn out or if there is anything you want to try out live, other than using their betazone tool, let me know.

If you want to have a look at a v5 proboard. catinasuit.proboards.com/has been updated. They have removed the karma plugin, so you can only do likes from here on. It also sets up a universal proboards account for all v5 proboards forums allowing you to easily switch between all of them based off your email address. If anyone wants to sign up an account and have a look feel free.

personally i'd like to downgrade. yaknow go back to when you actually talked to people face to face or sent them a hand written letter via snail mail.

neta: and by hand written i mean hand written. not something composed on the 'puter, spell checked, center justified, in times new roman and then saved as a pdf file to be printed en masse to be sent to the lemmings in your life.

Might as well do it sooner rather than later. I agree that you should time the upgrade between games. peeker, give us your home address and I'm sure we'd all be happy to drop you a postcard

If you give me a list of the things you want to keep on this board, I can practice setting them up on the other one.
Bunnies included.

Well new smilies are easy. Each theme can be amended as you like with new ones or updating existing ones.
Idle Thoughts is going to have a field day when its upgraded.

There is also a karma plugin. It doesn't give the cool titles, but at least you can still use it.

I usually recommend waiting a while before upgrading anything, to give some time for bugs to be found and fixed, but if SuitCat isn't having any problems then I say go for it as soon as Pleo's game is done.

It's rather bubbly with too much whitespace. Not much fits on the screen at once. I guess that's their design for mobile devices, but it'll make reading with computer slower.

Is it just me, or are individual posts no longer numbered?
That's gonna make it just a wee bit more difficult to locate specific posts...

If you select 'link to post' from the settings button, you can link either directly to the post or to the post within the thread. So the posts are numbered, they just bury the numbers a bit.

But that is "post number", not "reply number". Is there some board add-on to bring back the reply numbers? I don't think I can run a game with them.

Is there some board add-on to bring back the reply numbers? I don't think I can run a game with them. There is a template fix. Layout Templates-> Thread-> Post List I have tested it on my site and appears to work fine. Replace: <div class="info"> $[post.thread] with: <div class="info"> $[post.thread] <span id="post-text-$[post.id]" class="post-method"></span> <script type="text/Javascript"> {if $[post.index] == 0} var post = { page: location.href.match(/page=(\d+)/)?RegExp.$1-0:1, index: 0 }; {/if} var index = (post.page-1)*15 + post.index++; if(!location.href.match(/(\?|\&)q=/) && proboards.data("route").name == "thread"){ $("#post-text-$[post.id]").html(index == 0?"Thread started on ":"Reply #"+index+" on "); } </script> to add the thread reply number
