The land of Childhood Tales has fallen on dark times. What was once a peaceful and happy land has been cursed and set into turmoil with the death of the King and Queen of Hearts. Poisoned, they were, the tarts they ate laced with laburnum and their anguished cries echoed throughout the land.
With their death, the Knave of Hearts tried to take over, but far from ruling wisely and peacefully, he no longer wanted to be loved and set his mind on ruling with an iron fist.
His takeover split the kingdom and the Grand old Duke of York led a great rebellion against his tyranny. The battles between them raged for days as a green land was churned to mud. Eventually it came down to a few left, there on that battlefield. But as they all looked around, no-one could tell the difference between friend or foe. The Duke of York was found dead, having led his armies up and down again, but the Knave of Hearts was no longer visible. Surely he must be among those left.
And so it was resolved to question all, and each Day put one of their number to death in the hopes they could root out the evil amongst them.
