Haiku restriction Is self-imposed and forces Fewer Swammi posts Tersity should please! If more details are needed I'll post two Haikus Why do you want a self imposed restriction that makes people suspicious of you? Fewer posts is bad. Unless a player is spamming, more posts are more useful. Terseness does not add value either. What they said. Is there something you're hoping to obfuscate by posting only in haiku? A tell you're hoping to avoid? Scum want Town to trust 3rd party claims, because it makes it easier for them to false claim. Scum rarely claim third party, because of the huge amount of suspicion third parties typically accrue. If you're going to lie, you might as well lie in a way that generates the most benefit for yourself. Yeah, Pleo's making sense here. As Paranoia said, Scum want Town to trust Scum's false claims, not third-party or PFK claims. And Jaade, in this game a Serial Killer would be PFK, not third party.

Maybe swam has a jester role?
Or maybe he gains something by posting in haiku, as opposed to what he claimed is a self imposed punishment

i don't think i've ever played in a game with a jester role. the role has been greatly criticized, more than Hugh Laurie's role as House. LOL the only worse role IMO is the death miller.

SisC, thanks. I did realize that but was just using a more general type of third-party. I agree that swammerdami's posting is really distracting now that it has been pointed out. I can't imagine scum drawing attention to himself that way, but I can't see a Town reason to post "tersely" or not say too much. This needs to be better explained. I'm not willing to put a vote down on it yet, because I can't see a good scum reason for it. I don't buy that it is self-imposed though. On the third hand (ha), I can't see it being a mod rule for a third party, because this is drawing so much attention to him.

The rules state that there are no moderator-placed restrictions on posting. So swammer is choosing to post that way, rather than being required to. I'm not really happy with their explanation, but I'm not feeling a scummy vibe. unvote swammerdamiI don't like not having a vote down. I'm going to vote BillMc for minimal participation.

Pleo out of all of the low participation players why vote Bill?
Why not Scathach...patricia....Jaade who all have under 6 posts? Your vote seems like an "easy" vote here.
Vote: Pleonast (until We get an explanation of why a quiet Bill is more important to vote than any of the other low participants)

Voting Bill for low posting is picking low-hanging fruit, though. It's like voting you for claiming (or, in this case, soft-claiming) on Day 1.

My level of participation seems about par for the course given my usual posting volume, but if you don't like my posting volume pleo, tough.
So let me "contribute"...
I hypothesize that there are some town and some scum players in this game, and that town has a limited number of mislynches before loosing the game. I further submit that there may, or may not be 3rd parties and pfk's And furthermore, I'm absolutely sure that folk will claim and some folk may believe those claims, and others may not. I will claim at some point should I feel it is necessary, but until then, I shall only breadcrumb "abcdeefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz"
I think that pretty much sums up the content of Pleo's contributions so far.

Well, for all the players who don't feel like they have anything to contribute – or can't really narrow down who does or doesn't look scummy – here's a thought: there are a few potential lynches on the table right now; how do you feel about them? Are there any that seem like particularly good or bad ideas? Anybody who's placed a vote make you leery for their timing or position or reasoning? Since it's day one, all we really have to go on is who voted for whom and why. Rather that try to take in the whole game or playerlist at once, let's focus on that!

I am completely confused on who to vote for. I want to keep my vote, but with no peeks around, I can't justify it
Unvote: Texcat
Who to vote for? I want to vote for Swammer because of their haiku posting style.... But it is just a veil for something, I can feel it....
Maybe a bomb role? Or a jester? Because it seems a tad bit off of left field for this

Has Peeks ever shied away from posting just because he is scum, I think not. Maybe he doesn't know the game has started or something happened in RL. Vote: Vote TexcatBecause it's not as if Peeks just popped his head in and said "Hi" and vanished. Texcat voted for him when he hadn't said a word and she hasn't unvoted. How can you get a scum feel for someone who just hasn't shown up? I find these Haiku posts a bit irritating and I would smile but the bunny annoys me even more.

Since it's day one, all we really have to go on is who voted for whom and why. Rather that try to take in the whole game or playerlist at once, let's focus on that! Well, most have seemed like joke votes at best so far. I wouldn't vote swammerdami because of the haikus, I actually find them amusing and I can see what he's trying to do with them. He played a few games recently where he was correct in his cases but couldn't swing opinion to vote with him so I think he's trying to move away from his previously more wordy style to something more concise. And also, haikus are fun. Voting Pleo for semi claiming Day 1 is like voting the sun for rising. I presumed Texcats vote for peeker was a joke until she showed up to defend it as "not letting silent scum escape" which is a bit of a stretch frankly. So I guess I can see where the votes on her are coming from, but they're a bit "Here is a defensible thing to put a d1 vote down on" rather than being a real case. I could vote for KidV - not so much for his saying that he would lynch all third parties, but his reaction to Swammerdami for voting him seemed a bit over the top. Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaay... backing away slowly from the crazy man now. Let's have a chat when you're not drunk or whatever you are, hm? No, actually I didn't notice he was posting in haiku, I was too busy being flabbergasted by his bizarre reasons for voting me (ie, we have a different opinion about whether to trust 3rd party claims, and now apparently because he's still mad over stuff that happened in a previous game). I mean even in haiku, hetermetrus's vote was perfectly straight forward. Vote: KidV

For some reason, posts are not showing up as numbered for me (actually, to be accurate, some posts are showing up as numbered and others are not). I have no idea why this should be, but rather than try to count posts manually and inevitably make mistakes, I am presenting the vote count without post numbers for now. I'll try to fix this when I figure out how to do it.

Voting Bill for low posting is picking low-hanging fruit, though. It's like voting you for claiming (or, in this case, soft-claiming) on Day 1. Unfortunatly, I'm only seeing low-hanging fruit at the moment. Show me a case that has some substance and I'll likely switch my vote. My level of participation seems about par for the course given my usual posting volume, but if you don't like my posting volume pleo, tough. This is mafia we're playing, where players judge each other by their posts. So I, and every other player, are justified in calling out players who aren't contributing. I will claim at some point should I feel it is necessary, but until then, I shall only breadcrumb "abcdeefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz" I think that pretty much sums up the content of Pleo's contributions so far. Was that so hard? You actually do have an opinion on another player. Why did it take me prompting you for you to post it? But you've conveniently skipped over my two votes so far. What do you think of my vote for swammer? Does it make sense to vote someone to get an explanation of their strange posting? What of my second vote--do you think it useful to use a vote to poke a player to post more? Anyway, time to poke someone else. unvote BillMcvote scathach for minimal participation.
I will post HaikuIn all future games as well. Brevity should please. Discipline for me And for readers too, I hope. Haiku ... Town or Scum. Longish paragraphs (Explicate? Equivocate?) DID NOT WORK FOR ME. This type of posting is too hard for me to parse. I'm unlikely to be convinced by anything you say. And I'm unlikely to get a good read from you, which will make me more suspicious of you over the long run. That's great if your scum, but not so good if you're not. I mean even in haiku, hetermetrus's vote was perfectly straight forward. Vote: KidV Nice timing , I see you've now posted. unvote scathachWho's "hetermetrus"? ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I see KidV has 4 votes now. They are FruitAndGarbage: "just vote on a whim and see where it takes us" swammerdami: because KidV is in favor of lynching third-parties Paranoia: "kinda snipey using their probable quirk as a means to discredit" scathach: "his reaction to Swammerdami for voting him seemed a bit over the top" My opinions on these are Fruit: no substance to the vote. swammer: voting because of a disagreement in tactics is a poor vote. I think KidV's approach to third-parties is anti-town, but I don't see scummy motivation in stating one's opinions. (However, I will hold mislynches against players, especially if their vote boils down to "because third-parties should be lynched".) Paranoia: I'm somewhat sympathetic to this vote, but also to criticisms of swammer's difficult style. scathach: This is a pro-town vote, in that it makes a judgement call on another player. But I don't think it's right. I'm not getting a strong feeling to vote for KidV. I'll look elsewhere for a place to vote. I see that Cookies, Coyote and KidV all have good participation, but no actual vote. vote Cookies for being around but not voting yet.

Post by Jaade on Aug 20, 2013 10:31:57 GMT -5
Let me clarify by saying I find this a perfectly valid tactic in the later game, voting for those who are continually, out-of-character quiet. Voting Bill for not posting frequently is like voting peeker, pizza or Meeko for posting in ways that most of us find strange. Voting for people who haven't voted yet, I find a little more scummy. Why pressure people into making votes that they may not believe in?
To me, it is one of those situations in Mafia games where I feel damned either way. Either I place an early vote and appear scummy for changing it later, or I place a later vote and appear scummy for jumping on a bandwagon or casting a "one-off" vote. It seems to be that there are many variables in the voting process and I consider voting to be a serious duty for Town. I find vote analysis very useful most of the time but I think Town is tripped up more often by "pressure voting" than Scum.

To me, it is one of those situations in Mafia games where I feel damned either way. Either I place an early vote and appear scummy for changing it later, or I place a later vote and appear scummy for jumping on a bandwagon or casting a "one-off" vote. There's your problem. You're trying to minimize the suspicion on yourself. That's something scum do. Townies vote for who they think are scum, regardless of how much suspicion they generate. Furthermore, lynching is a collaborative process. We need everyone's input. Holding back because you don't have a strong scum feeling on anyone doesn't help us lynch well. It delays the process because there's nothing to react to. As we get more discussion and more votes, we can all make better decisions. Look at votes I've made. I've gotten two players to vote and some discussion from a player who hadn't done much yet. These are good things. Other players can then look at those reactions and put out there own reactions. And more players will do things to generate more discussion. If you've seen scum vote as I have it's because they were being pro-town. Lack of votes and discussion helps scum, not town.

Post by Paranoia on Aug 20, 2013 11:07:32 GMT -5
So pleo pretty much espressed my philosophy on votes as town: Vote early, vote often. Your vote is your weight. It makes your intentions known. Scum don't like the vote, they'd like to pretend it doesn't exist. They know it is the engine of their destruction, for when push comes to shove you got to justify that vote. By voting and doing things you in turn force scum to vote and do things, and lose control of the direction of conversation.
If scum don't have control of the direction of conversation they logically can't make everyone focus on what they want them to.
So talk, do things, vote. Exchange ideas and opinions, and smite yer enemies.
See right here is why I didn't like focusing on swammer. So what if they're posting in Haikus? who cares they want to and as long as they keep posting and keep talking and informing us of what they think they are giving us content to judge them with.
And this is why I am kind of 'meh' on bill right now. He kind of came in, made one hilariously hostile post in response to Pleo, and then kind of failed to actually do something with the post. Why yes thank you for reminding us of the general gist of what pleo has posted. Does his posts make you suspicious of him or was it just a snarky retort?

I see that Cookies, Coyote and KidV all have good participation, but no actual vote. I'll vote when I'm damn good and ready and not a moment before, pleo, you've played with me often enough to know that. Of course, then I end up unvoting and revoting ninetybillion times anyway, but that's as may be. I'm usually a late voter on Day One, and faster from there.
