Auction Mafia
This will be an all-vanilla game with a major twist. All powers, except the Scum Night-kill, are up for auction, every Night.
There will be no substitutions for any reason. Please do not sign up unless you intend to play. Players are encouraged to deal with non-participants using in-game methods.
Powers
Each Night, every player, both Town and Scum, may bid on as many or as few powers as they wish. A player may use more than one power during the same Night. Send the moderator a personal message with your bids: <power> <bid> <target>, for each power on a separate line. The powers are listed below. A bid is a whole number from 1 to 100. Targets must be living players. Invalid bids will be ignored.
For each power, the player with the highest bid wins, for the price of the second highest bid. For example, if the bids are 28, 23, 19, 12, the player with the 28 bid wins, but pays only 23. If there is a tie for the highest bid, one of the tying bidders will be chosen at random, paying the tying bid. If there is only one bid, the price paid is 0. At Dawn, the prices paid (and not the highest bid) for each power (or lack of any bid) will be publicly announced.
The winner of each bid will learn that they won, the price they paid, and the results of the power on their target. The cost is a percent chance to die equal to the price paid. The moderator will use random.org to see if the winner dies or not. The use of the power is not affected by the winner's death, and the death cannot be prevented by any means.
Investigate: You learn the alignment of your target.
Track: You learn the identities of all players targeted by your target.
Watch: You learn the identities of all players who targeted your target.
Obfuscate: Any Investigation of your target will reveal the opposite of their true alignment. Any Tracking of your target will reveal no targets. Your target will not appear on the Watcher's list.
Kill: Your target dies.
Protect: Your target cannot be Killed by any means, except by paying the price for a winning bid.
Block: Any power used by your target will fail. This power will fail if you target yourself.
Charge: Any power used by your target cannot be Obsfucated, Protected, or Blocked.
Role Messages
You are Town. You win when all Scum are eliminated while at least one Town player is alive.
You are Scum. You win when the number of living Scum players is equal to or greater than the number of living Town players, even if there are no living Scum players. Each Night, one Scum player may kill one Town player.
Other Rules
Players may vote or unvote for as many or as few players as they wish, including for No Lynch. The player with the most votes at the end of the Day will be lynched. If there is a tie for the most or if No Lynch has the most, then there will be no lynch.
Any player who does not have an active vote at the end of the Day will be penalized. They may not make any bids the following Night, nor may they make the Scum Night-kill. Also, they receive one penalty.
Days will last for three weekdays, and Nights will last for one weekday. Dawn and Dusk will always be on a weekday at 12 noon PT (3pm ET).
There are no secret rules. No one can change alignment or victory conditions. Players may post (mostly) freely in the game thread or scum boards any time they want. Please do not post images, non-English texts, or links to outside this game's forum; do not edit posts. Any post in violation will give one penalty to the poster.
Any player who reaches 4 penalties will be immediately mod-killed and lose the game. Their former side will be revealed at the end of the Day or Night. However, each Night, players may vote for one other player (not themself) to forgive. The player who receives the most forgiveness votes will have all penalties removed.
Questions to the moderator must be sent via personal message.
Scum Numbers
The number of scum is predetermined based on the total number of players. The number of scum will be the total number of players divided by 4, with all fractions rounded down. We need at least 4 players, but no more than about 30.
