You didn't all arrive at the same time, or even for the same reasons; some of you came because you had orders, some because you were tricked, and some even came when they shouldn't have been here at all. Regardless of how you were individually ensnared, you collectively found that the labyrinthine complex of basements, fallout shelters, and long-forgotten bunkers connected by impromptu tunnels had plenty of ways in, but no real ways out. Locks and barriers and deadfalls hemmed you all in, and gradually you began to congregate in the largest and most central room; it was a facsimile of a conference room, perhaps a mocking recreation of the summit above that most of you knew you should be attending or protecting or observing, but at least it offered plenty of space where no-one could reasonably get the drop on anyone else. Trust didn't come easily to any of you, especially since you'd all just recently found you'd been given fake instructions or had been otherwise deceived, but it was pretty clear nobody was getting out unless everyone worked together on it. Of course, everyone's refusal to be the first to give their name or venture any suggestions hampered cooperation significantly, so it was no surprise that no real progress had been made when the speakers crackled to life.
The voice was heavily distorted when it spoke, the recording either having been altered or the voice disguised when it had first been made; either way, it was impossible to determine the speaker's accent, or even their sex. Only the words were understandable, if only just.
"Capitalist pigs. Imperialist swine. You have been separated from your homes, your tasks, and any hope of rescue. Without them, you will die; without you, they will easily fall. This meeting of decadent and shortsighted powers will mark the beginning of their ends. Rest assured, you will die. Even now, we are among you. There is no-one to save you now. Communism will prosper in the wake of your countries' collapses."
It was vague and heavy-handed, but it was as threatening as it had intended nonetheless. That there was a plot to attack the summit was obvious, and the fact that this was just a prelude to it even moreso. Panic threatened to break out until someone pointed out that if the communists were in fact among the group, they'd have to have a way out. They wouldn't have trapped themselves here. All that had to be done was root them out, foil their plans, and get back to the summit and prevent whatever they had created this trap to facilitate.
Someone else pointed out that was a lot easier said than done, but most everyone agreed that it was better than sitting back and waiting for the killing to start. Begrudgingly, the group settled around the table and began to discuss who among it was most likely to be a traitor; it was difficult without anyone revealing anything about themselves, but once a series of codenames had been agreed upon to at least make it clear who was talking about whom, the discussion began in earnest.
The mob made its first stirrings.
Day one begins! Rather than have it end in the middle of the night (because most people do not live on my nonsense schedule), day one will be a bit longer than most and end at 8:00 Pacific time on Tuesday, January 14th. Night one will last for 48 hours after that. As a reminder, any players who have not yet checked in will be replaced on Sunday the 12th.

Morning all! Can someone please pass the Capitalist bacon? Is that anything like ""government cheese"" I always hear about? Might be less scarce than Velveeta..... At this rate. Oh, and confirming.

I'm swamped at the moment between my other game, jury duty, and trying to keep up with my job. I've skimmed my role PM and I think I'm vanilla ("no active powers") but there's hints of other stuff that I haven't parsed through yet.

I, personally, would like to:
Investigate Meeko[/b]
Meeko is one of those players where it's very hard to draw a bead on him whatever his alignment; he acts according to a pretty strict set of internal rules, I think, but doesn't usually articulate those rules to us. So I find I always find him both suspicious and utterly innocent at the same time. The behavior of someone like Bill, I think, can be better assessed by more conventional analysis.

Can we get an updated Rules list posted? I believe the rules were detailed in Post 1 of the Signup thread, but there was some discussion of the tiebreak procedures, and an update somewhere later in that thread. If we could get everything posted again in one place, that would be helpful.
Спасибо..err...Thanks!

PM received.
I'll echo storyteller and Investigate Meeko.
And Vote GnarlyCharlie for "reporting in": lowercase "r" indicates heavy editing, reporting sounds like imposed duty...

130 hours remain in Day 1Can we get an updated Rules list posted? I'm swamped at the moment between my other game, jury duty, and trying to keep up with my job. I've skimmed my role PM and I think I'm vanilla ("no active powers") but there's hints of other stuff that I haven't parsed through yet. From the rules: "This game features no vanillas". I have to go with Meeko on this one - we'll help you figure it out. Investigate: Pleonast

That seems a little nit-picky. The rules say "This game features no vanillas, which is actually a design choice I usually avoid. However, that does not mean every role will have an active power, just that every role will be unique."

There are a few people I would like to investigate so I am not sure who to put down right now. On my list are gnarlycharlie Meeko (cos he had me totally fooled last game) BillMc (cos I can never get a read on him) Dizzymrslizzy (cos we always look scummy to each other)

OK, been thinking about this a bit, and I've decided to execute a Pleonast. I am normally not in favor of unsolicited reveals, but my role - if there are many like it - suggests a lot about how we are going to play this game and in particular, how we are going to seek out Scum. In order to have the conversation that we need to have, we need to have at least one example of the sort of thing that's in the game - and I am willing to be the one that puts it out there, because ultimately it doesn't hurt me that badly to do so.
I'm not going to say everything, and in particular not going to share any color.
Here's what I'll say, boldfaced for ease of reading:
I am Town. However, I have a caveat that the rest of the Town does not (I suspect most, if not all, Townies have some sort of caveat, but that's just a guess). The caveat is a thing that must happen in order for me to win. I cannot win if the Town does not, but I can lose even if the Town wins. I'd rather not say what it is, but I do know that the thing itself is not guaranteed to be pro-Town.
I know my decision to reveal will draw some flack, but I am prepared to defend it.
Meanwhile, it suggests something unusually difficult about this game. Normally, I try to look for players who are trying to force artificial outcomes - especially when those artificial outcomes hurt the Town or benefit the Scum. But if the game is full of players with win conditions like mine, we will need to think differently, since there will be many Town players trying to make things happen that may or may not help Town. While it's easy to say that we should just lynch everyone who is working toward anti-Town outcomes, if most or even all of the Town have supplements to their win conditions that may require anti-Town outcomes, we will lose by lynching them all.
Thoughts?

By "execute a Pleonast" I mean nothing nefarious, by the way. Just an unfortunate choice of wording, given the color
