Remind me to never live in Thailand. It's not so bad here. Government is incompetent and corrupt, but the junta is vastly superior to the government it deposed so we're heading in the right direction. Anyway, U.S. governance is also imperfect. People are friendly and relaxed here. I've done night-time wandering in both U.S. and Thailand, in both city alleys and secluded rural areas, and usually feel much safer here. As an uninsured American, health care costs played a role in my decision. As an example, I recently went to the government hospital complaining of chest pain; they did an EKG with no delay and, although I'm on no health plan whatsoever and they're certainly very aware that I'm a foreigner, they insisted that there was no charge whatsoever for either the EKG or consultation.
