Dark Souls 2 Day Eight I’m not going to lie; I’m not much up to composing color today. In game terms, it’s fortunately a simple day: nothing has changed, no one has been Hollowed, killed, or restored. Peace and order reign. Out of game: I’m really very sad today. I enjoyed peeker as a Mafia player as much as anyone who’s ever played; watching him wind up someone who was new to his style was a thing of beauty. We also talked sporadically by PM about real-life stuff – most especially food - and I feel like we’d have been friends if we lived closer together. I told him I’d buy him a steak if we ever met in real-life. I owe him a steak, damn it. --- Day Eight begins here, and will end at 12:30PM on Thursday, October 2, unless a simple majority of living players votes to extend it.

Re: Peeker. I didn't know him, but my condolences to his family and friends in this terrible time.
In game terms, I'm assuming I was attacked or gnarly stopped someone from dying. Noone changed covenants.
Vote: Guiri for now I suppose. I'd like to have a claim from Meeko and Buff today if they haven't already done a full claim.

Hi, there - You have been offered recruitment by the Royal Rat Covenant. You have until the end of Day Eight to either accept or reject this offer; if you do not respond at all, you will be assumed to have rejected it. If you accept, your Covenant and win condition will change to that of your recruiter effective Dusk of Day 8 (officially, the change will occur after the lynch and prior to any other Day actions). You will retain all current powers and possessions (including souls and soapstones), but will gain whatever passive powers/abilities may accrue to a member of your new Covenant. .

Hmm. That suggests more than one recruitment offer at a time, which is interesting.... trying to hide meeko?

So yeah I politely decline both requests, because well I'm not able to. This at least solves one mystery, we are at the very least looking for a last member of Royal Rat Covenant.

Just a full posted PM would be nice.
Interesting that there have been two JOAT claims, both Meeko and Guiri. One is probably scum hmm?

I'm not sure I know what to say regarding Peeker to be fair, I just found out with today's open. Had to back track to confirm the already strongly implied. Just . You know? Not sure, that even if I had words, they would be adequate. .... And not in some crypto lets make a that less than half of the fame would get.

Peeker offered to send me a bunch of his Neckties. ... All while, in his own way, stating that he had wished he had worked less. And taken more time off. So, he was offering to help get me start, and way on my way, in the business sector, all while telling me not to work too much. A mixed message. Yeah, that's Peeker for you.

I cannot argue against the votes, we need to work through the pool of unconfirmed and someone has to be next.
Abstain, if someone accepts recruitment, do you learn the new alignment, covenant or hostile status, or just that a recruitment has succeeded?
Colby, who did you investigate last Night?

Abstain, if someone accepts recruitment, do you learn the new alignment, covenant or hostile status, or just that a recruitment has succeeded? Colby, who did you investigate last Night? it's not a complete result though, right? -------------------------------- interesting, there's a recruitment offer from the Rats. kinda fishy since there weren't any attacks last Night. also why has there been an offer only now? well at least that someone has admitted. who would want to join the Rats now anyway? i suppose if there is still one left, there wasn't any harm in trying. could the traitor be just a fancy name for a godfather? another possibility is that there are no more Rats, just the traitor. no kills but maybe needs to tag enough people? can we have full claims from everyone now?

Welcome to the Game; you are Laddersmith GilliganSome men have complicated backstories, elaborate lives. Some men have dark and shifting loyalties or powerful fidelity to a treasured cause. Some men construct great machines, or wield dark magics. You? You build ladders. But they are EXCELLENT ladders. You've been selling your ladders to people who need to climb things and/or generate bad luck for others for all of your life, and the business of swapping souls is the main reason you climb out of bed every morning. You belong to a Covenant - the "Company of Champions," you think it's called - but you're not much interested in its mission statement (something about challenging oneself against the strongest beasts in the kingdom, which sounds like an awful way to spend a Sunday in your opinion). You are quite interested in their scoring system, though: he who has the most souls when he dies, wins.
Thus your goal is quite simple: amass more souls than anyone else in the game by the time the game ends. Be warned: there is another pursuing the identical goal; it is not possible for you both to win, and if you tie, you both lose. You have a few useful items to sell, but apart from that there are surely other ways to amass souls. Good luck! STARTING COVENANT: Company of Champions (Non-Hostile) STARTING SOULS: <redacted> STARTING SOAPSTONES: <redacted> ABILITIES- Theft (Active - 1 soul): Human: Target any player of your choice by Day with this ability, and you will steal any souls that player receives from any source during that Day or Night (including souls from abilities, kills, or transactions). Just think of it as a really progressive tax. This will have no effect on them otherwise, though some might be annoyed by it. Hollow: This ability now functions only at Night, and costs 2 souls to use instead of 1.
In addition to your primary ability, you have created or found a series of interesting items. You may use items in lieu of your primary ability, if you wish, but only one per Cycle. Use of these items differs from that of an ability. Each is good for one use only; moreover: (1) using these items costs you no souls; (2) items may be used by Day or by Night; and (3) becoming Hollow does not affect your ability to use items in any way. Importantly, note that if you wish you may pass - or sell - items to other players rather than use them yourself. Your items are listed below:
<redacted/edited sections to follow>
Items that have been used by me or exchanged for souls and used by someone else:
- Estus Flask: A player who drinks from this flask will be restored to Human if Hollow, and gain 2 bonus souls.
- Black Flask: Target a player with this flask and you will poison them. Your target (if Human) will become Hollow one Cycle later, and die one Cycle after that.
- Grey Gem: Crush this gem and target any player, including yourself, and the target's alignment and role will be (truthfully, reliably, and publicly) revealed upon Hollowing, rather than upon death.
- Whisper Ring: Use this item on any player - including a dead one - to learn what he or she did most recently and what the results were.
Items I have left:
- Black Gem: Crush this gem and target any player, including yourself, and the target's alignment and role will (whether true or not) revealed as a non-Hostile member of the Way of the Blue upon Hollowing (the target's true alignment will be revealed at death).
- Loaded Die: Use this item by Day to create two ghost votes, which will appear on a target of your choice in the first vote count of the Day. These do not actually do anything at all, and will not count in the actual calculation of the lynch.
The Merchant’s GuildCOMPETITIVE (Non-Hostile) The Company of Champions is dedicated to fighting the most hopeless battles, engaging the deadliest foes. They have no political leanings and no particular ideology; they seek only to ensure that the odds against them are impossible, and then triumph. Its members are loosely associated, and use a rough scoring system based on acquisition of souls to measure their progress against one another and against rival Covenants.WIN CONDITION: The Company of Champions wins if, at game's end, its members have more souls in their collective possession than any single player. Be aware: another Covenant exists with the same goal, although its methods are quite different. SPECIAL POWERS: Members of the Company of Champions do not lose their souls when Hollowed or Killed (though they may lose them by other means). TO JOIN: The starting member of the Company may recruit a single apprentice - simply PM the moderator with the request to recruit, and include as much, or as little, information as you please. An apprentice's souls will be added to your own for purposes of calculating win condition. TO LEAVE: The initial member of the Company may never leave it. Any recruited apprentice is free to leave at any time if offered recruitment by another faction. You are not called "The Merchant's Guild." You are called The Company of Champions; that was a C&P error. Sorry! Board gripe disclaimer...I really dislike the way they now handle messages as threaded conversations, it makes it a complete cluster fuck trying to reconstruct a chronological order to things unless you make the effort to make each message a separate thread (i.e. no tangential, unlrelated, or temporally not-applicable content in a reply to another message) plus I think I have erroneous cycles and/or Day/Night numbers on some of my correspondence Subjects so what I did when at this point is probably going to be a bit bumpy and prone to mistakes in the retelling, but I am willing to try and share that if there is a consensus for me to do so.

Okay since I already figured out Cookie's game, I'll post most of mine. Welcome to the Game; you are Royal Sorcerer Navlaan
You are a dignitary, a servant of kings and proud of your work. You are educated and refined, enjoying the scents and the taste of
BLOOD BLOOD KILL KILL GET SOULS EAT SOULS HAVE SOULS
wine and the gentle sounds of
THE SCREAMS OF THE DYING AS YOU DRINK THEIR SWEET SOULS
the lute or the harp. In your spare time you are a man of letters; you have read every entry in the royal library of Drangleic several times over. While you do possess certain magical gifts not granted to other men, you use them primarily to
SLAUGHTER
help the common people of the kingdom. You are, in short, a person of distinction and a valuable ally for any king (or would be king).
SOULS.
STARTING COVENANT: Brotherhood of Blood (Non-Hostile) STARTING SOULS: XXXX STARTING SOAPSTONES: XXXXX
ABILITIES
- Kill (Active - 1 soul) - Human: Target one player by Day and kill them, collecting their souls as usual. This one is pretty simple, actually. You will receive 1 bonus soul each time you permanently kill someone from a new Covenant.
The Brotherhood of BloodCOLLECTOR (Non-Hostile) The war of succession currently tearing Drangleic to pieces holds little interest for the Brotherhood of Blood... except as an opportunity. Kings come and go, but power endures. Members of the Brotherhood of Blood have one goal and one goal only: to collect as much power - as many souls - as possible. Though indirect means of acquiring such things are always possible, as its name suggests the Brotherhood has traditionally purused souls by more immediate means. The terrifying name notwithstanding, the Brotherhood holds no particular animus toward any group - though many might object to their less-than-peaceful methods. WIN CONDITION: The Brotherhood of Blood wins if, at game's end, its members have more souls in their collective possession than any single player. Be aware: another Covenant exists with the same goal, although its methods are quite different. SPECIAL POWERS: Members of the Brotherhood of Blood do not lose their souls when Hollowed or Killed (though they may lose them by other means). TO JOIN: The starting member of the Brotherhood may recruit a single apprentice - simply PM the moderator with the request to recruit, and include as much, or as little, information as you please. An apprentice's souls will be added to your own for purposes of calculating win condition. TO LEAVE: The initial member of the Brotherhood may never leave it. Any recruited apprentice is free to leave at any time if offered recruitment by another faction.

First of all, let me say I've been trying to be as Town sided as I possibly can, and I still continue to be Town sided trying to find the last Scum. This can be seen yesterday I choose to try and kill one of my top scum suspects vs killing off Cookies, and then hopefully ending my competition.
My kills have been as follows:
Day 1 - I misunderstood my role, and thought I only had one kill, so I didn't act. Day 2- I Hollowed Bill Day 3- I finished off Bill after his over-reaction to being Hollowed. I thought for sure he was blowing smoke. Day 4- I killed MentalGuy Day 5- I hollowed BuffTabby Day 6 - I Hollowed Cookies Day 7 - I tried to Kill BuffTabby and those souls were stolen by Cookies.
Ironically enough, the two players I sent recruitment requests were Meeko and Guiri. Both declined.

1. Guiri (Human) -claimed WotB JOAT
2. Meeko (Human) - investigated as town - has items
3. Colby11 (Human) claimed investigator, WotB
4. Dizzymrslizzy (Human) - Brotherhood of Blood (investigated by me as well)
5. Bufftabby (HOLLOW) - investigated town by me (WotB)
6. Sinjin (Human) - claimed town mason
7. Gnarlycharlie (Human) - claimed town doctor/blocker
8. Cometothedarksidewehavecookies (HOLLOW) - Company of Champions, have items -nonhostile (also investigated by me N1)
9. Abstain (Human) -claimed mason
I think I have to Vote: Vote Guiri as well. I felt that he was playing a little differently at the beginning, to be honest.
If he is not scum, then we are at square one, unless everyone wants to attack me...

From my POV it comes down to Guiri, Meeko, Gnarly or Bufftabby.
I have a problem that I need Cookies dead so that I can continue killing for Town. I'm not going to kill and have my souls stolen by her, but my kills now need two cycles to finish someone off. It's only lynches that count as 2 kills. So I kind of feel like my powers are about useless right now.

Peeker died?
Wow, that is terrible news and I am extremely sad to hear that. I had a great relationship with him that started back with the game where we could all freely PM each other and form off-board message boards. Let me quote him from 2010; I think this captures both his gameplay style and his personality.
He backed me up the entire game and I will really miss him. We need to start a "talk like peeker" day on here.

The honorable thing to do would be to keep our competition focused the number of souls we can get our hands on before the game ends. The few souls I took from you is, imho, worth far less than the half of my life that you took from me.

Also, Bufftabby has been hollowed and restored so many times I find it odd that you have her on your list. What could possibly explain her adventures in the Revolving Death's Door other than scum trying to kill her. Dizzy's attempt on her life only accounts for one.

Also, lack of a kill last night and an apparent recruit attempt by the Rats leads me to think that they are now limited to choosing either kill or recruit, maybe. Due to being hollow or not having enough souls, or perhaps being limited by how many of their covenant are still alive, etc.

Yes, but see if I keep you alive, then you can potentially keep stealing souls from my kills I don't really think there are that many souls left in play anyway. Most players have so kindly announced that they are running out of souls. And well Bill, I knew since he was offering up souls on D1 or D2 whenever it was, he had to have a large number. Sorry Bill, it was an opportunity you gave me, and I had no choice but to take it.
