Dark Souls 2 Night Nine – The Throne of Want When his turn came, guiri did not go quietly.
The others drew their weapons and circled him warily. From his pack he drew a steel rod, no more than eighteen inches in length, and topped with a small sphere. No hint of magic surrounded it; no blade emerged from its tip. The others, armed with axes and hammers and spears, chuckled indulgently. ‘Hope you have an army in that bag somewhere,’ chortled one wit.
‘I’d hoped you’d say something along those lines,’ replied Pharros the Vagabond. ‘It’s a bit poetic, you know?’ He turned the sphere a quarter turn; there was a click… and then nothing.
‘Well, that was anticlimactic,’ opined abstain – Saulden he had been called, even if some moron of a Narrator had falsely proclaimed his death the previous morning – and raised his vast broadsword to finish it.
From beneath them and behind them came a low rumble. Seemingly solid stone walls began to slide open; doors in the marble floor swung low. And from them, slowly at first, and then in a horde, came the rats.
There were hundreds, maybe thousands. Each was the size of a wolf, and hatred burned in their countless eyes. They swarmed out, heeding the call of their master. Pharros the Vagabond backstepped quickly, and the rats barreled toward the small assembly. Saulden was beset at once, and though he slaughtered the vermin nearly as quickly as they reached him, still they came – snapping and snarling, tearing at his armor, seeking a vein.
Gnarlycharlie had joined this company reluctantly. As Licia of Lindelt, a wandering cleric with a pouchful of false miracles, he had bilked the citizens of towns across Drangleic. He had no special love for the Chosen Undead, but he had every kind of love for his own skin. Kneeling, he summoned up the second of the two true miracles he had as his disposal. Light surged from him, and the rats were thrown aside as if by the hand of a god. But Pharros was quick and clever; he shifted backward again and stepped on a pressure plate; a barrage of bolts sprung from concealment in the wall nearby, knocking Licia to the floor. From nowhere at all, Pharros produced a knife, dripping with a viscous black substance. Licia had a moment to wonder whether it was poison or acid, and then Pharros was terrifyingly near.
The one called Meeko was unarmed. Meeko’s real name was Chloanne, and he was a simple scavenger, a trader with an eye for pretty things. But he was also the child of a blacksmith, and his arm was strong. With a panicked lunge, he rose up, a slate-black stone in his hand, and struck Pharros the Vagabond across the back of the skull. At once, Pharros’ eyes rolled back in his head, and he pitched forward, stunned.
And in the end, it was sinjin – the Emerald Herald, the truest supporter of the Chosen Undead – to strike the killing blow, with a blade so narrow it was barely there.
guiri, who was Pharros the Vagabond, a member of the Royal Rat Covenant (Hostile), has been lynched.
And at last the way was clear. The Chosen Undead ascended the steps to the throne of Drangleic, there to claim the crown for itself.
‘NO!’ came a voice. ‘THIS WILL NOT STAND.’
bufftabby advanced to the foot of the step. In her hand was a sword as large as a small tree; her flesh had deepened to a strange blue. Her voice was firm and commanding.
‘THIS CREATURE HAS DEFILED AND DISTURBED THE DEAD OF DRANGLEIC. THE CHOSEN WILL NOT REACH THE THRONE OF WANT.’
The Herald protested, but bufftabby – Grave Warden Agdayne – tossed her aside with a gesture. The others looked into the Warden’s cold dead eyes and cowered in terror.
And then a voice spoke up from beside the throne, where no one had been before.
‘Your majesty,’ said the voice, addressing the Chosen. ‘I served the last King of Drangleic; I’d be honored to serve you, as well. I’m available to start immediately, if you’re so inclined.’
The Chosen nodded. Agdayne’s eyes widened as he saw the figure who stepped from out of the shadows. ‘I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD.’
‘A hiccup,’ said dizzymrslizzy, once again Royal Sorcerer Navlaan, and as always a killer. There was a flash of fire, and the Warden was gone.
Before the throne, the five who remain knelt in reverence. Through Hollowed eyes the Chosen regarded them curiously – it no longer remembered, after all, who it was or why it had come to this place.
The Cycle, it seemed, had resumed.

The game is over!!!!!!
Congratulations to the Way of the Blue, whose members have all won: BillMc, peekercpa, Colby11, sinjin, abstain, Meeko, and gnarlycharlie.
Sadly, bufftabby, who was Grave Warden Agdayne, part of the Way of the Blue but a Vile Betrayer who sought the downfall of her own Covenant, has not succeeded.
Neither have the hostile Covenants:
The Royal Rat Covenant,: Mahaloth, guiri, and patricia
Or
The Dragon Remnant Covenant – Suburban Plankton and Chameleon
Similary,
MentalGuy, part of the Pilgrims of the Dark, did not achieve his goal to survive until endgame.
Finally:
dizzymrslizzy, A/K/A Royal Sorcer Navlaan, part of the Brotherhood of Blood, compiled more souls than any other player (by one soul!). She has thus achieved her win condition and wins.
Which means that:
Cookies and swammerdami, the Company of Champions, fell just short of achieving the same goal.
Thanks to everyone for playing. More thoughts to come tomorrow, when I can wrap my mind around it all.

Well done! It was a tough game for the two hostile team, between Chameleon being caught attacking me N1, Patricia being poisoned D1, Suburban and Mahaloth's low activity, and the fact that the rats had NO night kill until Story tried to mend the imbalance! Why would anyone accept recruitment, especially after Patricia's red reveal, maybe Bufftabby would have?
Story, thanks for a fun and interesting game, I hope it played out as well as you were expecting.
Dizzy, I really did consider accepting your recruitment offer but felt I owed it to the team to keep fighting. Adding your day kill to my night kill would have been powerful but I feared the game would end.
Meeko, how do you feel learning that your trustworthy Bufftabby was the traitor?
Chameleon, oh, what fun we could have had together, united against WotB...

Chameleon, oh, what fun we could have had together, united against WotB... I think Bufftabby being the traitor was more an advantage for me, than her. That is to say, I don't think any real case was ever, ever going to form on her, but yet, she did more to forward my cause, than her own. Didn't see it coming, if that's what you meant.

So that was interesting.
I had hoped for a game that played a bit more like Mazalan than like traditional Mafia - one where allegiances were temporary and paranoia ruled. It turned out not to work that way.
From the beginning, there was a problem with too little death. The Dragon Remnant Covenant, for instance, didn't kill every time they had the option, which slowed things down considerably. Other players with the option to kill didn't always choose to do so either - sometimes because they were not able to participate at all, but sometimes for strategic reasons, which I hadn't expected.
The other thing that really surprised me, though, was how little interest there was in accepting recruitment. I was really, really surprised by swammerdami's and MentalGuy's reluctance to accept recruitment, given that their roles allowed them to win only if they survived - which in a game with so many possible killing factions was always a crapshoot. In MentalGuy's case, it out and out cost him a chance to win; swammerdami eventually accepted recruitment, but much too late in the game to substantially affect the outcome. I also thought that bufftabby would eventually be recruited, but no one ever offered her the option.
In any case, I think the Town win was well-deserved; they mislynched quite infrequently and generally leveraged their powers well. It was fun to watch, but I definitely will not attempt a game like this again without at least two additional moderators; it was just impossible to keep up with all the PMs and soul transactions and whatnot on my own, and as a result the game schedule slipped - which I think adversely affect participation.
Thanks again for playing, everybody!

I'll plead guilty to the second one. Again, good job dodging effectively declaring me vanilla. But I was set on that gambit around then anyway. Scum board access?

I had a terrible time accessing this game from work, even though I could still access my scum board with guiri. I apologize for the total drop in participation. Not filtered out, just not loading or letting me login.
I believe the problem is resolved, but if it is not, I will withdraw from the next game we have here if it is early in the game and I realize I can not play from work.
I was not mod-killed because I continued on the scum board and gave my action orders every Night. It became rather obvious I was active but not posting and my death was well deserved.

Here's the Dragon Remnant board - password is "remains": Dragon Remnant CovenantThanks for the game Story. I really did plan to extend my baddie winning streak, but this is the unluckiest I think I've ever been in a game. Then Suburban's attempt to defend me made him suspicious as well and that was it for us. Our win condition was really dependent on our recruiting others but I couldn't see why anyone would want to change covenants. If only I hadn't been seen N1. I was told later (was that you Swammi?) that Guiri or Bill should never be attacked early on in a game as they are usually watched or tracked - huh, wish I knew that before

It was me who sent Patricia the extra souls. That was before I knew she was Scum and I thought she might be annoyed that she was being helped by a hostile - LOL.

Story: thanks for the great game. It must be a good game if town, scum and third parties are all despairing at end game. I absolutely thought WOTB was going to lose for the last couple of days.
I was hoping it would be more Malazan orientated too. I think the problem was the lack of soapstones. Swammer was upset that no WOTB contacted him, as if recruiting him was not contacting, but many of us had so few soapstones we didn't want to use them. For instance, the masons could not converse if one of us was hollowed without a soapstone. I for one was not willing to use a soapstone indiscriminately. In the Malazan game we were allowed to converse with anyone at any time.

Thanks for the game story.
If anyone had searched my first post on D1 they would have seen my role - it is a direct quote from my character in the game. It was a softclaim of sorts I could point to if necessary.
