The Night was long and full of visitations from the dead, but at last the sky began to brighten. Storyteller was awakened from a brief respite by an insistent pounding at his door. Any other man would have ignored this and kept on sleeping, but Storyteller felt bound by his duty to answer the door. "May I help you gentlemen?" he greeted, bowing low. He cried out with pain and alarm when a large, muscle-bound hand grabbed his shoulder. "You've been a thorn in our side too long, teller of tales. We're here to ensure you tell stories no more, capice?" Storyteller tried to reason with these brutes, but alas, they would not listen. Growing increasingly irritated and confused at Storyteller's words, they surrounded him and pounced on him as one. Storyteller's corpse was found strung out in the town square with his throat slit and an ominous note: "This here be the fate of all those who defy Da Boss!" storyteller0910, Zhang Liang (protects against Wu kills) has been silenced forever. It is now Day 5. With 6 alive, it takes 4 to lynch.
The Day will end 11:59 EDT March 11 or when a player has 4 votes.

Looks like it's just me and the doctor left. I suggest he claim. The other two factions aren't going to go after you. I'm assuming it's Pleo.
Since there's no real way to tell what factions are and kill the two Pleo can't protect against, it doesn't matter to me who dies today. That said, I'm going to:
Vote nesta, because of his being pissed off when I called him scum "for no reason", but now we know he is.

Actually, on second thought, I think I'd rather die Today. Then, you guys can kill Pleo Tomorrow and it'll be a stalemate.

Looks like it's just me and the doctor left. I think you need to count again. From my perspective there's me + 1 doc + 1 peasant + 3 scum = 6 total players alive. Which number is different from your perspective?

Og damn it! On the official roster, Smurf is crossed out, so I took 6-1 to make 5. I'm off to go lick $350 worth of postage stamps, but I'll think of a solution while I'm getting my tongue wet, so to speak*.
*It'll probably be via porter or stout, sickos! But I'll be thinking and drinking and licking and stuffing, regardless, so expect a drunk post from me before bedtime.

Og damn it! On the official roster, Smurf is crossed out, so I took 6-1 to make 5. You don't seem to be paying much attention to this game if you forgot that Smurf / pete v.2 was still in it. I'm trying to decide if that makes you scummier or townier. Right now I'm about 85% convinced you are scum, but I've been wrong about most of my reads so far, so I'm still trying to avoid my usual tunnel-vision. Since there's no real way to tell what factions are and kill the two Pleo can't protect against, it doesn't matter to me who dies today. That's a hard sentence to parse. I think I get what you were saying, though. You don't care who dies as long as it isn't you or Pleo, because at the time you thought it was just you (or substitute one peasant) and the doc left. Vote nesta, because of his being pissed off when I called him scum "for no reason", but now we know he is.
This isn't making a whole lot of sense to me. First, I wasn't "pissed off" about being included in your scum list, I was annoyed because you did so as a continuation of your campaign to say it would be ironic if those with low post counts were scum. This is a rather convenient case for those with a high post count. Without backing it up this seems like a diversionary accusation, especially when your neck was on the line. This game isn't about post counts, but about content. If you have a problem with what I've said please point it out, but you haven't done so, so I can only think you are either trying to create a diversion to distract everyone from your own scuminess or you are being lazy.
Second, your reason for voting for me Today seems to be that I called you out on your weak reasons Yesterday. We are pretty much fucked at this point, but there's still a slight chance we could pull it off. If you are town would you rather I just let accusations that I'm scum go, and let myself be lynched like we've seen over and over this game? If you are scum maybe the answer is yes. I don't think you are town, though, so I guess I'll try not to get "pissed off" that you are voting for me for "no reason."

Mostly being lazy, I'll admit that much. I'm not so much of a go-back-and-read-over-the-last-Week kind of guy. The way I see it, regardless of this argument or that argument, is that as long as I don't die today, I have a 75% chance of eliminating a faction at the end of the day. Sue me if I had three beers and took the Kokoman challenge today (I'll explain that if it matters, but I don't think it's important), and have been thinking since Yesterday that there's one less person than there is. You parsed (aka understood) my sentence correctly (sorry for the "aka", I just don't like using a big word when a small one will suffice ). Regarding your second paragraph, how much sense does a sure thing have to contain? I've thought cookies was town since Day 2 or so, so my numbers still work out to a Doc, cookies, and me. Doesn't matter to me who dies, unless the three scum want to admit it and then Pleo]/b] reveals which faction he is and we kill the one who's not the faction he protects against.

I'm looking at end game possibilities again. I'll consider the numbers at the beginning of a Day, starting from fewest players and building to our current situation.
1-1-0-0: Faction win. 0-1-1-0: Stalemate.
2-1-0-0: Lynch or lose. 1-1-1-0: Town can't win. Faction lynch => Other Faction wins. Town lynch => stalemate (0-1-1-0). 0-1-1-1: Stalemate (0-1-1-0).
3-1-0-0: Lynch or lose. 2-1-1-0: Town can't win. Faction lynch => Other Faction wins. Town lynch => another chance for stalemate (1-1-1-0 or 0-1-1-0). 1-1-1-1: Town can't win. Faction lynch => chance for stalemate (1-1-1-0 or 0-1-1-0). Town lynch => stalemate (0-1-1-1).
3-1-1-0: Two lynches or lose. 2-1-1-1: Town can't win. Any lynch will give chance for stalemate (2-1-1-0, 1-1-1-1, 1-1-1-0 or 0-1-1-1).
3-1-1-1: Faction lynch => Two lynches or lose (3-1-1-0) or Town can't win (2-1-1-0). Town lynch => Town can't win (2-1-1-1 or 1-1-1-1).
In summary, we're screwed.
The only way we can win is if we lynch a Faction ToDay, and no Town is killed ToNight. Can we make that happen? I'm very pessimistic. First, we have to lynch a Faction. That's hard, although we have about a 50-50 chance. Second, we have to hope that the remaining two Factions fail to kill. That is extremely unlikely.
I'm in favor of conceding the win and playing for the stalemate. Here's what we need to do to make that happen: we must lynch only Town from here on out. This is actually easy--only a Townie can "gain" by voting for themself. A Faction can only ensure their own loss or a stalemate by voting for themself.
I'm considering starting the process by voting for myself, but I think I'm the most "confirmed" Town at the moment. Better to lynch me Tomorrow. I'll let a remaining Town start by voting for themself. I'll then vote for them. The last Town should also vote for the same player.
The factions will have to follow our votes. I'll let them work out the logic.

*sigh* I'd rather at least try to finally lynch a scum, especially when they're 50% of the remaining players, but I will also volunteer to participate in however the stalematerecide goes down, including voting for myself.
Until that pans out or not, I'm going to vote nesta. My reason for doing so is two-fold. It will hopefully keep participation up, as it has been an extremely quiet Morning, and just in case the rest of the Town decides to go down swinging instead of trying for the stalemate, we're that much closer to a majority.

You know, at this point I don't really care who we lynch.
A) We lynch scum. If somehow no one is killed ToNight, we still have a shot. If one of us dies, we can still play for stalemate Tomorrow.
B) We lynch town and commit ourselves to a stalemate.
So, we have two votes for nesta? Ok, three: Vote nesta
nesta, if you're scum, good riddance. If you're not, be a good Townie and vote for yourself.

I could fight this sudden bandwagon, and I probably should. I’m not going to, though. Instead I’ll try to shake things up and avert the stalemate. So here it is: Pleo is scum. I know it for a fact. You see, I’m the remaining Wu, and I tried to kill him last night. Since storyteller was the Wu doc that leaves only one possibility for why my kill didn’t go through. That means there’s a doc out there that knows at least I’m right about him not being the doc, and should know I’m telling the truth because Pleo has all but claimed. Also, I suspect Rugger is the remaining Shu and tried to kill Pleo Night 2. Notice how Rugger leaps out and accuses Pleo of being scum on Day 3. If you look back at Rugger’s posts on Day 3 you’ll also see him convinced that Pleo will claim vanilla rather than doc, which made no sense to me at the time, but does if Rugger already knew that Pleo couldn’t claim doc. So there you go town. You have a chance of winning now. The other scum factions are as much my enemy as the town, and now that someone I know is scum either has some scheme I don’t have time to figure out right now, or is actively going for the stalemate, I would rather hope for an underdog (town) win if possible. I hope Hawkeyop isn’t mad that I’ve thrown our chances of winning (or being part of a scum stalemate) away, but with the way Today is going I think they were slim anyway. I don’t expect you to trust me, but ask what reason I have to lie. If I wanted to continue doing that I would be railing against Pleo’s stalemate plan and trying to get Rugger lynched. Here’s a deal for the town, though. If you leave me alive Today I promise not to kill anyone Tonight. I don’t think you’ll get that same deal from Pleo or Rugger. If you want time to digest this or quiz me, I suggest you unvote me Cookies. I don't expect Pleo or Rugger to, and there might be a townie out there willing to hammer without giving it some thought. Or you guys can lynch me now and hope for the best.

Thank you for the confession. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to hammer, given that the Town needs to lynch any scum ToDay to have a minuscule chance to win and fellow scum need to lynch you as well.
I'm not sure why you're convinced I'm scum. If you (a Wu) did target me and failed to kill, that simply means story was protecting me. Is that so unlikely?
In any case, your accusations don't matter. If I'm alive Tomorrow, I will vote for mine own lynching. That will leave the last Townie to lynch himself the Day after Tomorrow.
And if there are no kills ToNight (which, similar to you, I find implausible), we can revisit the whole process, since we'll be lynch or lose.

Intriguing. I can't see why nesta'd lie about being the remaining Wu. And whereas trying to frame Pleo might have advantages, we'd know about them immediately his feet didn't touch the trapdoor.
However. I have severe reservations about taking a deal from an admitted scum in a game whose thrust is misdirection, betrayal and lies. We've no way to tell if you've kept your end of the bargain. And even if you did, the other scum faction would not, and we still can't win.
Really tempted to hammer right now.

Eh, if story was protecting you then I guess maybe I'm wrong. If there's another doc out there then they have a very good reason for suspecting I'm right. So to the rest of the town, lynch me if you will. Playing for a stalemate doesn't sound fun anyway.

Well, we've got one admitted scum in the bag. I don't trust a brokered scum offer of not killing tonight for a second.
If you'll recall, I went after Pleo for the way I thought he was faking being bummed. I don't believe a word you say concerning your alignment, your actions, or your motives.
It made sense that Pleo would have to claim vanilla because I thought I busted him as not being a doctor, yet still very, very interested in how docs lost power.
Why would it make sense in any strategic way, if I were scum, to attack both Roosh (Shu doc) and Pleo (not Shu doc) if I were a faction? I'm just flying blind, "attacking everybody" to see who has what to say for themselves. Looks like it finally worked, by forcing a confession.
Finally, the fatal flaw in your plan is that if scum had tried to kill a scum Pleo on Night 2, the kill would have gone through. You, nesta, were the only scum immune on that night, according to your claim.

<snip>. So to the rest of the town, lynch me if you will. Playing for a stalemate doesn't sound fun anyway. That explains why you're lying to try to get Pleo framed. If there's another doc, they should have counterclaimed Pleo a long time ago. A loss of powers yesterday would have been worth scum blood.

Finally, the fatal flaw in your plan is that if scum had tried to kill a scum Pleo on Night 2, the kill would have gone through. You, nesta, were the only scum immune on that night, according to your claim. This is why I don't post from work. I don't have enough time to think things through. Maybe that's true. Let's see, on Night 2 we killed Dio, and Night 3 we killed Diggit. If Dio was the son of the the faction that Pleo is, then your kill would have been blocked. Anyone want to check?

Post by nesta on Mar 6, 2008 15:32:04 GMT -5
OK, I checked myself. Dio was a Wei, which fits my theory with you being the Shu, and since you knew your faction and that Wu was immune, a blocked kill on Night 2 would mean you would know he was scum.

Back in my sixth-form days the game which kept us occupied at lunchtimes was Bridge. One of the things I learned from that time is that sometimes a player could only make his contract if the cards fell a certain way.
We can only win if Nesta is telling the truth about being a Goon. Which faction does not matter, really. He may be Wu, he may not.
We can, at this point, either go hunting for another Goon, leaving Nesta to be bagged tomorrow and trusting in his word not to kill anyone Tonight - and, incidentally, risking the entire game - or take the bird in the hand and play for the win Tomorrow.
Another issue; if Nesta really is the Wu, he makes a better kill than the Wei since the Wei doc is still in the game.
My evaluation is that it is better to drop the hammer now, and see what Tomorrow brings.
On preview though, there is a discussion going on. I'm not going to truncate it. Some information might come out. Let's allow the debate to run its course.

Mhaye, I fully expect to be lynched Today, but if the town wants a slightly better chance of winning and not a scum stalemate my offer is on the table. It means nothing, sure, but I will uphold my promise if I'm still alive Tonight.
Perhaps I'm wrong about Pleo. I hadn't taken into account that story might try to protect him, but maybe he did. Sure, scum in hand, lynch me if you want. Unless you're scum, though, I would wait until Cookies has a chance to weigh in.
