So I've said, here and there, that after the game here is finished I was going to start one up here myself if nobody minded. I figured these boards could be an outside board that can hold Mafia games one after the other...a place away from the SDMB so we can always have a few going on since we can only have (right now) one on SD at a time.
I also heard that Mal made his own and will probably host games on it, so all seems well for those who are fully addicted, now, to Mafia and it's variants.
Anyway, not to steal Blaster Master's thunder or upstage him, my game (obviously) won't be starting for awhile--at least not until a day or two after Mal's ends. But here is a sneak peak and telling of how my hosted game goes.
The version I've always hosted has, yet again, a new name. Psychopath. Hence the name of these boards if you've ever wondered.
Psychopath kinda goes back to the basics and doesn't have a lot of roles. It's more or less like RT's first werewolf/mafia game was. It has all of the standard ones and only two extras.
In a way, I think these are still great too. While playing in games like this one and BM's future one with lots of stuff and challenging play, sometimes it's nice to do the nice and simple too every so often. That's what my games are like.
I've hosted a LOT of these. At least twelve on varous boards I go to. Most of those boards, however, are people within the age gap of 14 to, say, 21 so I've honed my games just a bit differently. Some things I'll keep the same. Some things I won't. One thing I'll be changing, for sure, is role and team assignment.
Before now, I used to actually PICK who got what. This is because, when dealing with teens and stuff, they all always want to be scum. I guess it's fun to be scum. Everyone always asks and begs me for it..either that..or a good role like the Detective one.
So I'm forced to give everyone a chance at certain things and use my own discretion on who gets what. I also know that some are immature and not as good as other players..so sometimes I give them good roles to help them along and get used to the game..and sometimes I actually stay away from giving those teens any roles and give them, instead, to the ones I know are a bit more mature and seemingly more intelligent so the game will be, at least, a little good.
But here, none of that. I will use random.org, rest assured.
Anyway, about my game. It's called Psychopath..and here is what it has in it.
First of all, the two teams are called the Normies (for Normal People) and the Psychopaths.
There is a Doctor role, of course.
There is a Detective role. However due to the nature of my variant, it is called the Therapist.
There are Mason/Official roles. As in, pro-town that know who each other are. In my game, they're called Geniuses.
And finally, there is a pro-town role called the Crazy Normie who is kinda like a Vigilante role. However the CN can only kill ONE time..and that's when they're killed off themselves. If ever they are lynched in the Day or killed off at NIght, they are allowed to PM me one person to take along with them to death's depths.
And that is it for the usual roles. As in, the ones I use in EVERY SINGLE game I host.
However, I usually throw in one, random role each game too...and I always change it up. And it's ALWAYS one from the following list. For the players in my game here, I will allow a vote to take place to choose which of the following role to include:
---------------------------------
Town Idiot - Is a Normie and works, technically, for the Normie side. They will vote trying to actively make the Normies win. However the TI wants you to kill them. It is their purpose to get killed in the game. If they succeed, they get to choose what team they're on, AND any status they have for the next game. They may also choose to not have any status.
Tracker - Is a status for the Psychopaths. It's like Therapist, only allows one Psycho, each Day, to PM the Host with a Normie to "Investigate" to see if they have a status.
Cupid/Lovers - The Cupid is a Normie. The only thing the Cupid does is, at the start of the game, chooses two (any two that they want) players to be "Lovers". This will be UNKNOWN to all players, including the Lovers themselves. The only two who will ever know who the Lovers are are the Cupid and the Host.
The Lovers may be two people on the same team, or on opposing teams. Thing is, though, when one Lover is killed someway, the other one automatically Commits Suicide and also comes out of the game.
If the Lovers wind up being the last two people in the game, they win as their own team, illregardless if they are on opposite teams.
Psychic - is, like the word it closely resembles, a pro-Psycho role. The Psychic can use their minds to reflect Execution back onto the voters. Each Night they'll PM me with the name of ANY player and, the next Day, if that player is, at the end of Day, the one with the most votes OR the one with the needed amount of votes, then the person is saved and the Execution is bounced back onto the FIRST PERSON WHO VOTED FOR THAT PLAYER AND HELD THEIR VOTE that Day round.
Serial Killer - Serial Killer, if added, will not be a Psycho OR a Normie, but rather their own one person team. The Serial Killer does not care who it kills. It just wants everyone dead. The Serial Killer does and will NOT know who is who, but again, it doesn't matter since the SK will be trying to kill everyone and be the last person standing in the game. BOTH the Psychopaths and the Normies will want to try the SK as soon as possible....to remove them from the game. The SK will PM me, like the Psychos, one player a Night to Murder. The only way to find the SK is to have them Murdered or Executed...HOWEVER, the SK status would be told to the Therapist if the Therapist ever inquires. If this happens, the Therapist would then have the choice to kill the SK or "rehabilitate" them and they'd turn into a Normie.
Mad Bomber - The Mad Bomber would be like the Serial Killer, if added. They wouldn't be a Normie or a Psycho and would just want to kill everyone off. Only in this case, every Night, they'd PM me the name of someone to put a secret bomb on. Neither Psychopath nor Normie would ever know if they had a bomb on them.
IF it's ever the case where EVERY current living player has a bomb on them, then they all automatically are blown up and the Mad Bomber is the sole winner of the game
Sick Normie - Is a Normie who has a virus. The sick Normie will die, if they have not been Murdered or Lynched yet, after two Days and Nights.
However...if the SN is ever the one Lynched OR Murdered, the last one (be it Psychopath or Normie) who voted for them, catches the virus and becomes the new "Sick" Normie or Psycho. And so on, and so forth. This one only works well in large games (like 20 or 25+ players) however I'll put it in if voted for. It's the status that keeps on giving!
And that's it, really. Just one from that list along with the four standard roles I put in every game.
Compared to some games as of late, this one is like a "bare bones" game.
I also heard that Mal made his own and will probably host games on it, so all seems well for those who are fully addicted, now, to Mafia and it's variants.
