Captain Steele is an Admiralty agent. He can watch one person each Night: if the person is involved in a kill either as perp or victim then Steele can either prevent the kill or ID the killer. Steele chooses either "Block" or "Witness" as the option to favour; however, one time in three he ends up having to exercise the other option. (Some things just never go according to plan.) Steele's only info is "X killed Y". He gets no information as to roles. He can watch himself, in which case he will still die if attacked but his killer will "show signs of a violent altercation". If he is "Blocking" someone, he blocks all kill attempts by and against them (it is perfectly possible for someone on a mission of murder to be killed himself).
The pirates choose who will execute the night kill as well as who will die (Flint, if alive, has the casting vote in both cases). If Flint chooses to night-kill in person, and Steele Witnesses either him or the victim, the two old enemies will recognise each other.
Ben Gunn is aligned pro-pirate at the outset, hoping that his former shipmates will accept him once the last of the crew goes down. He has no piratical abilities and is not privy to their councils; indeed, they don't even know he's aboard. However, a night-kill attempt on him will bring out his paranoia: He survives the first such attempt, becomes aligned pro-crew, and thereafter must kill once per night in an attempt to rid the ship of pirates as he now sees them as the greatest threat to his life. He can't kill Captain Flint while any other pirates live. If Flint dies by any means, Ben Gunn becomes a sane loyal crewman; if Ben Gunn has not been attacked by then, he forfeits his one-shot immunity to night kills.
Captain Smollett, Squire Trelawney and Doctor Livesey all know each other. Additionally, Livesey functions as a Doctor with this restriction: he can protect the same person as often as he likes, but the Night after he saves them his protection will be ineffective. (He saves by fixing wounds, and even with medical intervention, no-one will survive being mortally wounded two nights in a row). Similarly, more than one hit on the same victim in one night will kill him, Doctor or no.
Dick Deadeye was made an offer he couldn't refuse by Flint in the dark. He must kill three people to be accepted as a pirate and share in a pirate win, using knives of a strange Oriental design. Any attempt has only a 50% chance to succeed. Dick Deadeye can only win by sharing in a pirate victory. Otherwise he will be found with an unused knife in his possession and either hanged or fed to the sharks. However, until the game is over Flint neither knows nor cares who Dick Deadeye is. Dick Deadeye lacks Ben Gunn's sense of self-preservation and so can successfully target Flint; by pirate law, he replaces Flint at once in this case. He can be "blocked" by Steele though. Dick Deadeye gets Flint's casting vote(s) if he replaces him, but not his ability to ID Steele. If he completes his mission (or kills Flint) he gains access to the pirate councils. Clarification: Dick must try to kill every night. Dick ceases to be an independent night-killer on killing any three players or Flint, either of which makes him a true pirate.
Sneaky Sam, though not a pirate, hopes to ingratiate himself with them. He can spy on one person per night and identify their role, except that Steele's disguise is too good for him and he will get only a "crew" result. He is aligned pro-pirate but never has access to their councils.
As usual, it is possible that not all of these roles are in play.
Multiple hits: If the same person is targeted more than once, the Pirate hit is resolved first, followed by Dick Deadeye, followed by Ben Gunn. Steele, if Witnessing, sees only the first hit (and second, if Livesey blocks the first). Otherwise, all attempts are considered simultaneous - so it is possible for Flint, Ben and Dick to kill each other in a last-night circle of death.
Victory: The crew win if all pirates are eliminated. Dick Deadeye is not considered a pirate if he has not completed his mission; Ben Gunn, even if unactivated, is not considered a pirate once Flint is dead. The presence of Sam does not prevent a crew win.
The pirates win once the crew does not outnumber them. However, once again Dick must have completed his mission to count as a pirate. Sam and Ben don't count for either side (not being known pirates, they can't be counted in the pirates' tally of guaranteed votes; there is no way of definitively "outing" them).
