Day One
Sept 20, 2008 7:38:21 GMT -5
Post by storyteller0910 on Sept 20, 2008 7:38:21 GMT -5
The group spent the better part of the first night awake and deep in discussion, and by the time the Dawn met you, a few things had become clear (well... clearer than before, anyway). None seemed to know how they had arrived on this barren outerworld. Some are even telling the truth. Others know exactly how everyone got there. Those Who Know, though, ain't telling.
What is certain, though, is that each of you received a gift clearly marked with a symbol; you opened the gift and wound up here. Few of you are conversant with ancient Egyptian symbols, but those few are able to piece together a rough and awkward translation of the symbols you saw: War, Famine, Plague, Death, and at the center: the Greek letter Alpha - the first - symbol of the first mutant, the one called Apocalypse.
Based on your exploration of the region your group currently occupies, you've determined that the Skrull that once inhabited this planet are long gone. However, you have discovered that the shapeshifting Skrull seem to have left a "Skrull Equalization System" active when they abandoned the planet. This special technology, designed to avoid the chaos inherent in a society of shapeshifters, automatically assigns a constant identity to each individual on the planet. For example, you can see a person off to the side who has been cloaked in an identity called "storyteller0910" (but he's just Watching, so you don't have to worry about him).
In all, your dilemma is clear. There are no signs of life, apart from the quarter-hundred of you, anywhere on this planet. The Horsemen and their Master clearly lurk among you, protected from identification by the Skrull Equalization System and the fact that they could be any one of you.
You've come to the unpleasant consensus that you need to weed out those who initiated this unexpected trip; after they've been dealt with, you'll turn your attention to how to get back to Earth (well, it made sense when the idea was proposed). So Today, you are going to find one of those responsible and kill him or her off. At least, you hope so. So, now, get to it!
-------
Day One has now begun. Voting is open and permitted. If you have Day powers, you may use them by sending a PM to both moderators (ALL powers will resolve either at Dawn or at Dusk, regardless of when they are sent in). Please review the rules elsewhere in this forum, and have at it!

Hello, children. How lovely it is to see all of your happy smiling faces.
I hear that some of you are confused. Scared. Frightened, even. But that's ok, boys and girls, you don't need to be scared of me. I'm just a harmless old man, looking for a little company to brighten up the days and the long, lonely nights.

With 25 players alive, it will take 13 to start the countdown. Once a player has reached 13 votes, a 12 hour (unstoppable) countdown will begin. Whoever has the most votes at Day's End or Countdown's End (whichever comes first) gets lynched.
The Day will end at... you decide!
Please vote for 5, 6 or 7 days for this First Day. Vote in Navy and bold for this issue and unvote in Orange and bold. To allow for non-weekend people, discussion and voting on the Day Length will be open until Monday afternoon/evening. We'll post the exact end time sometime on Monday.

I'm wondering if Story and Kat have done anything with the countdown mechanic other than what they're telling us. I'd like to find out, so I'm going to Vote 7 Days.

*Stops by.* Hello Idle. it appears that playing in this game is your destiny. See how your best attempt at escape fails, and you are drawn back in. Heh. Heh. Heh. Now, there is the usual matter of business. Some of us are new here, adn some of us ... less so. Just because Bufftabby ran rings all around everyone last game doesn't mean she's scum this game. Doesn't mean she's an innocent townie either, to remind you of the flip side of the coin. The moral of all this is, selling someone down the river is a mistake if you don't know what side they are on. (If you do know, feel free. Just don't be surprised if a lynch mob comes after you.) Keep objective.

Hmph. Gonna be interesting, seeing as how no one pushed hard on Night Zero. I've got my suspicions, but they ain't much and they're based on gut rather than brains.
I do think this--the variable countdown makes me feel like it'll be important later to make sure people have enough time to defend themselves. I suggest very strongly that everyone votes on countdown as soon as possible, and that everyone makes damn sure to pay attention to when day ends.

*Watches forum eat post.*
I thought it had got over freezing up after previewing. Obviously not. Now I have to retype my post.
What I was saying before the board rudely ate my post, was that games around here play best if the vote deadline is not on a weekend. Since Today opened on Saturday, a seven-day deadline is Probably A Mistake - just in case the Day runs the alloted time.
Personally I think Friday is a marginally better day for the Dusk than Thursday. Accordingly I will vote for a six day Day.

*Stops by.* Hello Idle. it appears that playing in this game is your destiny. See how your best attempt at escape fails, and you are drawn back in. Heh. Heh. Heh. NOOOOOOAhemWell, maybe scum will kill me off early. Course, since they know I want it, they'll probably leave me in the game. Course, saying that as bluntly as I did (implying I'm not scum) might put me suspicious to other Townies but I have a real devil may care attitude about this game. If I live, so be it. If I die, yay! But since I am in the game, I guess I'll do as best as I can for my team, which, by the way, is Town. If you don't believe me....good. Then kill me off and find out yourselves. That being said, I am Dr Cecilla Reyes, a Town Doctor. I say "a" because I have no idea if there are other Doctors in the game...with there being no vanilla roles, I assume there are. I can protect one person a Night or sit by myself and protect myself. If the person I'm protecting is attacked, I will know it (that they were attacked). And for any of you not liking the fact that I just claimed right now, bite me. I could care less. I didn't want to play this game so I'm going to make it as easy for me as possible. If I'm believed (by Town), then I'm on easy street the rest of the game and only have to worry about figuring out who I find suspicious and voting for them. If I'm not believed (by Town), then you'll all kill me and I won't have to play. And of course I'll be believed by scum because they already know I'm not one of them. And the best part of it is...I'm a Doctor....and I just claimed on Day one! So now it's going to be me playing WIFOM with the scum all through the game. What fun! They'll have to try to think like me and wonder if I'm going to protect myself every Night or protect someone else. I hope I can get them to waste a few kills! Again, if you think this claiming early is untownlike (even if you do believe me) that's fine. I don't give a crap.

Hmm, well I prefer the 5 Day/ 2 Day routine and ending it on a Thursday is fine, so 5 Days for me please.
As for today I am wary that a mass name claim will work out the same as Firefly, good names will not necessarily be equated to Town and bad names will not necessarily be related to Scum. However, a mass name claim will give us the starting information we have and an idea of how the game is constructed and information is currently the one thing we are lacking other than the colour text. Actually, given storyteller, the colour text is probably going to be important in several ways.
Hmm, plenty to think about.

Hoopy, my dear child. It's funny that you should mention that. I do have candy... but I can only give it to good girls and boys. So how do you define good girls and boys? Well I wouldn't want to give it to naughty boys and girls. Oh, no. Because that would just be wrong, wouldn't it? But if you're asking me if I have any special way of finding out which boys and girls are nice and which are - not so nice - then I'm afraid I'm going to have to disappoint. I am just a harmless old man, after all.

Next order of business:
VOTE KidVermicious
Either him or Diggit or MHaye are scum, but he rings my bell (that sounds dirty, doesn't it?) more than the other two because of his vote for the Day length plan.
Because if I were scum, I'd vote for the longest Day plan possible....because everyone thinks that scum want the Days to be over with as quick as possible. Really, they do. Every EXTRA Day is a Day they could be caught.
However, they wouldn't want to vote that way simply because they'd want to plant an "oh so subtle" thought in your head that they aren't scum...so they'd vote for the longer Day plan, hoping you'd think "Scum would never vote for more Days".
Hey, better'n using Random.org...at least it makes sense and has good reasoning.
I've been scum. Twice. And I've weighed in on things like this before saying the things that would be opposite what Town would think of me (I.E. saying in Mafia V: Cult that we should NOT mod kill sachertorte even though the mod of that game was asking everyone what we should do and even though I wanted him DEAD DEAD DEAD!)...so yeah...even something as small as a vote for how many Days to have....I think looking at those voting MORE Days (KidV, Diggit, MHaye) are the ones to look at.
