NAF, man, I LIKE wheat-heavy bourbons. =P
If you drink Wild Turkey straight, by all means mix with it. Hell, if you can drink Mad Dog 20/20 straight, by all means mix with it. My theory only speaks to making mixed drinks with booze one doesn't like.

Actually, I'm going to ask a favor: if anyone has an optional Night action as wishes to NOT use it for any reason, would you please explicitly state this in a Night action PM? That way we can make sure everyone is accounted for before we start the new Day.
Thanks!

My theory only speaks to making mixed drinks with booze one doesn't like. I like a wheater sometimes too. I had had a bit last night so I got a little...opinionated. And I have a tendency to get "enthusiastic" about this sort of thing. In my younger days I have walked out of a bar because when I asked what kind of bourbon they had they replied "Jim Beam, Wild Turkey, Jack Daniels and Crown Royal." There are a few things significantly wrong with that list, not the least of which is the bartender doesn't know what I mean when I say bourbon. My real problem with Makers isn't that it is bad, it's that it is a) overpriced (At that price point there is just better stuff out there) and b) has become touted as "the best bourbon there is" by people who don't really know what they are talking about. It's frustrating to offer someone who claims to be a bourbon fan some of my 20year old Pappy Van Winkle only to have them ask if I have Makers since that is the good stuff. But I like Makers just fine and will gladly drink it if offered.

While we're on the topic, please feel free to offer up suggestions for a good whiskey (scotch, bourbon, it's all good). I'm always looking to try something new.
Lately, I've been suggested (but have yet to taste) Glenmorangie and Lineavol (Which I've never heard of, or been able to find anywhere.. even a google search has come up empty.. Perhaps I got the spelling wrong?)

Crown Royal is an -awesome- bourbon!

My "girlfriend" bought me a bottle of Jack Daniels Single Barrel for my birthday in June. It's actually quite good, I was surprised. Probably paid a bit to much for it due to name recognition and all, but it's still sitting on my wine fridge. A handle of Captain will last about two weeks there, so that's quite a feat!

Once every few months they'll have something else.

I have the same problem with every kind of liquor--I know people who claim to be scotch drinkers who take a look at my Johnny Walker Blue and say "Oh, I never drink blended scotches, I thought you LIKED scotch." Bitch, that's a 60-yr bottle that cost me more than you make in a week.

Previous post exaggerated for vitriol, I actually got it for less than $200 by the simple expedient of asking a friend in a state without outrageous liquor taxes.

The Macallan and Laphroaig are both excellent as well, and Glenmorangie isn't bad, but my favorite so far has got to be Lagavulin (this stuff is expensive, and is not to be shared with philistines what don't know their uisge).

I try to get into Scotch, I really, really try. I think drinking Jack from 15-21 screwed me up, though, because Scotch just tastes like a smokey, oakey mess to me. Doesn't stop me from trying, though!

Santo, are you drinking blends or singlemalt? I've found blends to be a little muddled. Proper singlemalt has a much better clarity.

:le sigh grand:
I could really use a good stiff drink right about now. Followed by several more.
I'm with you on the Sailor Jerry, Hoopy. I've got some in the freezer right now. Hmm, I guess that solves my problem right there. The only drinking problem I have, is when there isn't anything to drink.
I'd prolly take somebody out to the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium, in Nashville. It's a ton of fun to get drunk as hell in Nashville, eat some good ass food somewhere, and sober up at the Parthenon and Centennial Park. Yes, the Parthenon is exactly what it sounds like, except it's not in Greece. The statue of Athena is *amazing*.

Don't forget the peat. Smokey, oakey peaty mess. Mmmmm... What's the peat part taste like? Santo, are you drinking blends or singlemalt? I've found blends to be a little muddled. Proper singlemalt has a much better clarity. I'm guessing blends, but I never really noticed. I remember drinking Glenlivet (that's the one in the green bottle, yellow label, and a dude with one of those sharp thin swords on the label?), and Johnny Black, Red, and Blue. Plus one type that was on sale at "Two Fools", and Irish pub the Albuquerque rugby club frequents.

What's the peat part taste like? Dirt. More specifically, it's an ... earthy taste, I guess. Different areas have different peat composition, which adds distinction to each distilleries flavor. Glen is an acceptable singlemalt (normally what I drink, like I said), but it certainly isn't the best out there. Johnny are all blends, as far as I know. Do you drink them straight? Straight scotch can be a little overpowering - a little water can tone it down and help bring the flavors out.

My girlfriend loves peatey Scotches. Me, not so much. Granted, I don't dislike them, I just don't seek them out. Really with the exception of the aforementioned gin and vodka, I'll drink pretty much any good quality liquor or liqueur. My girlfriend won't touch amaretto, though. Not because of the flavor or anything, but because the thought of it takes her back to college when a couple guy friends of hers decided to "denature" a bottle of it to get back at another guy who was a dickhead.

Ah, you're a one-shot kinda guy. I find that mildly surprising. Hardly. It's just kinda hard (hehe, hard) to drink the same drink twice. Pfft, who's the dirty one here??? There's room for everybody! (Especially since it appears that Santo isn't up to the task on his own...) Hell, I dunno if I wanna be getting into your pants if they're big enough for everybody! Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike big gals... but big enough for -everybody-? Like, everybody playing this game, or literally -everybody-?
