I know, my advice would have been to go after him last night. Bigger risk, but a better payoff. I decided to spoiler this next bit because it potentially gives away the identity of the last pirate. I am not explicit, but if you know about some of the meta-game things that have been happening to people you can probably figure out what I am talking about. We pirates did have it tough this game though. Special circumstances that made things extra difficult. Also, I think that the reason I got killed is because I made my night post before MtS claimed and the other pirates weren't paying close enough attention to the game at that point to realize that there was a better move open to them. The thing that kills me, is that I think if we hadn't hit these meta-game problems we could have taken the whole thing even with MtS playing as well as he has been. Yes. You had some high-quality players on the pirate side and without the non-game issues you'd have been going well. It's a shame from my point of view too... still, I don't think I've put a bad game together as a first effort.

Not at all, this game is fantastic! I meant what I said in the Game Thread. I have enjoyed every second of it. I like the twists you put on the characters and I think the balance is perfect. It is a lot harder for the pirates than it looks at first glance, but it is by no means impossible for a pirate win, even now. We just need a bit of luck.
The out of game issues are disappointing, particularly since I think they lead directly to me being killed, but what you gonna do? We are all human and sometimes stuff happens. It's part of playing a team game.

Interesting. I see the non-game issues as a boon to the pirates, actually. Seriously, one pirate didn't post in the first two Days, yet he was the one making the kills (am I reading Auto correctly when he implies that he decided himself who to kill?) That meant there was absolutely no trail to follow - zero - for several days. Then, one pirate gets subbed out, which means the trail ends and starts up again. And if I'm understanding correctly about the identity of Flint...
Funny how it seems from the opposite sides.

Oh, the pirates need more than a bit of luck. Flint's only chance is for the two-on-one ending above to arise just when the Doctor's already wounded. Otherwise even if he puts the Doctor or Steele down, there are enough people left to lynch him in view of the inescapable evidence.

He could take Pleonast out next. Then if he keeps gunn alive start picking off other crew...
Nope, once Hal dies today it's check mate. It is mathmatically impossible for us to win.

And if I'm understanding correctly about the identity of Flint... Funny how it seems from the opposite sides. Well that was always the plan with Auto. We had him go do the killing because he was untraceable and (in my opinion) unlynchable. We were totally safe as long as he was alive. My plan was to be the first person who was killed and to have it be a big ramp up lead by another pirate. MtS changed the game plan a bit, but if you read the pirate boards the night I was discovered, you will see that the two pirates left (I was out of town all night that night and posted my advice 3 days before the day ended via Mal) just went with what I said without giving it any actual thought, even though what I suggested was clearly a bad idea considering the events of the day.

Hey Gad, don't be blue. I ain't mad, and for what it's worth I think you were awesome to play with. We hit a bad patch luck wise.
(Yes, Gad is Flint. The game is over I figure there is no point in being cryptic.)

Hahaha, I knew he seemed too helpful. But man, with the huge analyzing posts and long worded entries....very good show.
I always thought players like you or I or NAF or anyone else who analyzed everything from top to bottom would be one kind of dangerous scum.

Well, honestly, once I saw that NAF had put himself up as Gaderene's sub, I was fairly sure Gad was a pirate. It wouldn't make any sense otherwise. I wonder if the others will pick up on that; I'd be surprised if Mad didn't.
Whew, this is a relief...it's amazing how quickly it all happened!

Hmmm...on reading the lastest posts, I take back my relief. Do you suppose Mad's stalling to see what storyteller's gonna do? At least two crew are already uncomfortable with replacement-Gad...

To be fair, I was mostly joking about subbing in and Mal knew it. I think he assumed everyone else would know it too.

The pirates are buggered, as you'll soon see. Sir Blah went after FCoD, who protected himself and was witnessed by Steele. That means the Doctor lives and FCoD is going to be outed. I don't see how it's even theoretically possible for the pirates to win from here. There is no way for Captain Flint to kill either Steele or the Doctor without being seen at least. I'm curious and puzzled then. If this is what happened last night, then what is Mad up to, I wonder? If he knows Sir Blah/Hal is scum, why would he put in a vote for Lakai and risk another Night being killed off? Unless he's planning to do what he did the last Day and state near the end that it's Hal again....I dunno. Maybe he's buying time and letting the Day go on for as long as possible so he can weigh other people's votes (like, someone mentioned earlier, notyetdead/storytellers)? That's the only thing I can think of.

That's my assumption too. The info on Sir Blah isn't going to run away - he can announce it any time toDay at no risk - and meantime he's got the rest of the day to try to induce the last pirate to give himself away. Like I say, one possibility is that after Blah goes the crew don't realise there's only one pirate left, in which case they don't know that they need only concentrate on keeping Steele and Livesey alive - the other possibility is that of coming down to the ending Steele & wounded Livesey & muggins vs. Flint, where muggins gets lynched on the last Day and Flint then kills the Doctor on the last Night. Not something you'd bet the house on!

I am not wrong am I, it is actually impossible for the pirates to win at this point. I suppose if Pleonast is taken out tonight and not watched...and then a correct guess is made and Flint kills either Piggy or FCoD (could he?) and Gunn stays alive...wow those are long odds. But possible right?
The real question is...is there any senario in which either MtS or FCoD can be killed?

They just have to alternate watching each other and then themselves to get past the Doc's limitation, right? Then if they never lynch him during the day, it'll be down to the three of them, so auto-lynch on notdead. Yeah, it should be automatic, so we'll see if they click on that. Of course, they could be thrown off by the number of remaining pirates, but I think everyone over there has pretty much settled on no more vanilla pirates left.

It would be possible, I think, but highly unlikely. I guess there could be a scenario where FCOD, Mts, and notyetdead are remaining going into night, and notyetdead attacks whoever mts is not protecting and who mts is watching, and mts's block turns into a witness. But that scenario I think would only work once everyone but those three were gone. So notyetdead would have to survive all the way to the bitter end, then get lucky with the block turning into a witness. This game is over.
Steele was such a powerful role, and MTS played it so perfectly, that I think the only chance the pirates had was getting Dick activated. Things certainly could not get any worse for us with Dick killing Auto, then getting caught.

Oh, plus there's a 50% chance Flint will kill Ben at night, which will make three confirmed crew. That could screw things up if one of them tries to get clever and watches Ben instead of each other if Ben pulls a role-claim after the fact. Hmm, actually, that could really throw a wrench in the works. They need to commit to thier plan and it's a guaranteed win...if someone gets impatient, though, if could fail.

But possible right? The real question is...is there any senario in which either MtS or FCoD can be killed? Yes, but it's not easy. If Livesey is attacked on a night when he is protecting himself, and then Steele tries to protect him the next night but Witnesses by mistake, Livesey can be killed. But the killer will be seen, so this only works on a Night when only those two are left - then Steele can't do anything with his knowledge the next day. (Attacking Steele on a night when the Doc is protecting him and then again the next night would work too). The above scenario only works with another player in the game on the day after the first attack as the players have to lynch him instead of Flint. Once it gets down to Steele and Livesey versus Flint there's not much doubt who to lynch.

Oh, just in case anyone was curious, Cometothedarksidewehavecookies (later tirial and notyetdead) was my night 1 investigation. It was more or less random.
I must say, MtS has played this brilliantly. How things all went to hell for us.
My lessons learned: Since we had a hard ending time, I should have declared my investigation results and disclosed who I was at the end of day 3. I'd still be able to get my FCOD investigation in before being lynched day 4. Letting the pirates attack me night 3 was my fault. Not that any of it would have done any good, though.

Ahhhh. Gad, you suck. You were the one player I was absolutely sure was crew, hah. Oh, boy, I feel like a maroon! I guess my scumdar is indeed as bad as my gaydar-- well played. Aside from Auto, it was the players I had the least sense about that were scum-- everyone I was very suspicious of was an officer. Learning curve. Idle, I wondered if it would be fair play to use code from the PMs from Mal-- I wondered about that when I saw MHaye referring to the "Gentlemen" of the boat, and I'd considered invoking something when I was in trouble but decided it was in poor taste for some reason. Rum all around, to crew and scum alike! Cheers.

Just wondering, Gad or other Pirates, if you're still around ... you did know I was Ben Gunn, right? I would have defended you when it came down to it. I mean, unless you were about to be lynched or something. Then I'd gleefully kick you off the ship. Mine! It's my gold I tell you, all mine! And you stole it from me! I'm taking it all back with me! Though I never got to use my death avatar, from here : www.deadmentellnotales.com/onlinetexts/treasure/bengunn.shtmlJust wondering, who else (of the crew) guessed who I was? The game wasn't headed this way, but I had a bizarre thought about an endgame scenario - if it came down to myself (unactivated), Capt. Flint, and one crew and I didn't know which was which, I could win either way as long as they didn't both vote for me. If I role-claimed, however, I'd force Flint into role-claiming, since I could only win with the pirates (and my feared enemy, no less). For the ship to win, I'd have to be convinced of their Flintyness, an odd forced role-claim for them to make.

Ah, Hockey Monkey, we were the worst scum-players evar. PJ-- I suspected that you might be something or other, but in the end I was really just flailing.I was positive that BM was the dominant pirate or something. I was wrong in basically everything I thought, hah, except once when I was sure Auto was scum. Then it was too late to do anything about it. That was fun.

So I just read the Pirate boards, and found this post : Night 4.10 by NAF1138. I nearly burst out laughing at the way those statements went. Apparently you very nearly went after me that night. It was between me & Idle Thoughts at first, and it looked like Idle came up the winner since he'd be going after NAF1138. Also, it seems the Pirates really thought Lakai was Gunn. Strange coincidence that someone I started to push early might end up as a prime candidate for them to defend. Since this was my first game, but I had a role I had to keep to myself, I think it fair that I share how I played after seeing how the Pirates played. I'll put it in a post right after this.

Just wondering, who else (of the crew) guessed who I was? Well, that certainly does make a lot of sense. I knew you were SOMETHING, and I thought it was a pirate, but then I started getting mixed reads off of you, which was part of the reason I laid off. I wasn't even considering the possibility of who was Ben, because I was pretty he hadn't been activated.
