In light of the Blessing I received from NAF, I'm starting this thread and we can goof off in here until either the game starts, or Idle gets pissed that we're trying to probe the new titles before the game starts, and smites me.

Well, Mal had shut off the ratings, so I never turned them on again...but now that you mentioned it, I just may so people can have fun with it. That being said, I don't care how many posts you make. There are so many title statuses based on post count milestones, I doubt you'll reach them all. A new one will come every TEN or FIFTEEN (MOST of the time, every ten), and no gap is any more (posts). So have at it. Even if you or anyone else DOES get to the highest, I can always make/add on more.

I'm game; I'd like to get my post count a little higher than usual this time around. I seem to always end up in the middle third of the group somehow.
What should we talk about?

Well, we can begin with excessive paranoia before we even have everyone signed up.
So, I'll start with a Vote for Autolycus (even though he's not signed up), and an FOS on NAF1138 (even though he's just a sub).

If there's psychopaths running around, do they even care about the rules? I mean, c'mon, they're crazy, right?

What do the buttons that say "Exalt" and "Smite" under everyone's user name do? I am tremendously tempted to smite someone or other just on general principles, but am leery of initiating global thermonuclear war.

Actually, it's just for fun

Shit! I don't know how you do it. But I do know I'm about to smite you.
Edited to add: Well, that was anticlimactic. Oh, well. So where is everyone? I would have thought the roster would have filled more quickly than this.

You know, in all seriousness, I don't think your game is all that complicated, or at least not in a way that makes it harder to play. All the extra roles add wrinkles, but I think the biggest effect of a game with a lot of roles is psychological; people start devoting all their mental energy to analyzing the roles and how they interact, instead of focusing on the essential nature of the game, which is unchanged - read what people are saying and try to guess at their motivations. Everything beyond that is just a (fun) red herring, in some ways. I've been trying to think of refinements or changes that would actually complicate the basic gameplay but still be playable; nothing has come to mind yet. I do have some weird little ideas for when my turn running a game comes around (after this one, Idle? Or after the next one after this one?)

I really couldn't play in more than two at a time; hell, just modding takes up as much time as playing... I spent 3 hours this morning catching up on posts, updating my spreadsheet, and responding to PMs. That doesn't count the other probably hour or two I've spread out since then either. OY!

I do have what I think is an interesting idea for changing the way ties are handled (I wanted something different from the random.org and/or extend-the-day alternatives that we've used in previous games). I don't actually know how to set up my own board, though. How does it work?

I am planning to do a bastard mod game, so I may actually need some help from someone who knows more about game mechanics than I do. It is easy to create a bastard game that is unplayable AND unfun. I want mine to just be unplayable.

The idea is to create a game that the mod actually takes a hand in altering events to make things harder for any given side.
Basically the mod of the game is a bastard.
It is supposed to be less serious and more "just for kicks." You can have all sorts of crazy characters that might be game breaking in a normal game, but because there is no strict rule set at the start I can make sure that the game keeps going.
Basically the only rule is that I, as the mod, will do everything possible to make this game impossible for everyone to win.
They are fun!
But they are hard to create, because there is a fine line between creating a game where the normal rules don't apply, and a game that is just no fun to play.

It would be very important, I think, to communicate the free-for-all, just-for-fun nature of the game to all of the participants in very explicit terms, though. I don't think most players would want to participate in quite the same way as in other games - less intense reading, less in-depth analysis - because it would be frustrating having that kind of effort wiped out. It does sound like fun, though, if approached in the right way. Good luck with the development. P.S. Watching Blaster Master's game with a bit more info is absolutely fascinating (there's been some PM-ing of sensitive information now that people have died). I can't imagine how entertaining M2 must have been for you with perfect info.

If I do it right, I think it would be a good way to blow off some of the steam that seems to have been building up over the last couple of games. M2 was great. I had more fun moding that than I have had playing in any of the games. Out of curiosity, what do you know? Don't name names, but what kind of info are you working with?

I am going to be very careful with the answer to this question. Here is what I know: - The results of Hal Briston's pre-death investigations - The identity of the other monks and the number of monks there are in the game total (obviously) - The orientation of at least one other player, apart from points 1 and 2
