Ah I'm so excited to actually be a part of these games! Are there any rules or Doping formalities I should know about? I already know about FOS'ing people, Whooshing, and trying to avoid excessive exclamations. That and expect plenty of snarky sarcasm and the occasional temper flare. Oh and always avoid the term "Lynching for night kills". Any other suggestions? :consults handy-dandy-guide To Cecil's Dopers and forum rules Guide (Now with 10% more redundancy!) Don't post too much. Don't post too little. Don't post too much fluff. Don't post too much overly analytical information. Don't call too much attention to yourself. Don't try and hide in the background. Play like you're going to be killed overnight. Don't vote for me. HA, this sounds silly, but it is good advice (all except for the not voting for Hal thing. Voting for Hal is almost always a good idea ) I think the best advice is the second to last piece, play like you are going to be killed that night. This way you will always be doing the most to help your team, even in death.

The only bad part is you can only do it once an hour.

That would rock. Who are the bad guys? Dobson, the Operative, Blue-Hand Guys, and Reavers. Which would, of course, unfairly tilt the game in favor of the Bad Guys. Plus the fact that I don't know how to figure out the role balancing thing, and wouldn't be able to post/mod during working hours (cause I can't game from work) makes me hesitant to put the work into fleshing them out. One thing to keep in mind when you're doing a themed game with with small amount of source material: There aren't many possible good guys. You don't want day one to be: I claim Mal. Next? I claim Jayne. Next? I claim Wash. Next? and so on until the badguys have nowhere to hide.

"I claim Wash." would be more likely or more believable than "I claim Detective." "I claim Doctor." "I claim Vanilla Town." would be in regular games. Plus, I would beat anyone who did that. That's what the baseball bat in my avatar is for.

(PS. feel free to smite me, everyone/anyone, as much as you like, I don't mind and it's always fun to see who does what) I was wondering if you would be able to notice the little things like that. And yes... I was just trying to keep up with your Karma... =(

That's what the baseball bat in my avatar is for. I see now that you guys are generally running open setups; that is, everyone knows what roles are in the game. The site I'm used to usually does the opposite, where you only find out what roles exist when someone dies. That leaves plenty of wiggle room for fake claims. and as for why? Well, to win. If there's a game-breaking strategy to win, why not use it? I'd rather prevent strategies like that, instead of relying on players to draw an artificial line in the sand.

We have agreed that we want to keep a fairly tight lid on much of the game, as lack of knowladge is going to play a large role in the game mechanics, but everyone will be given a named role. Some of those named roles will have powers, some won't.

Well, like NAF said, the information will be tightly held. Including which roles are in play. Hopefully enought to prevent that sort of thing.

That sounds pretty clever, actually. Wish I had thought of that before saying what's going to be in this one..haha.
Sounds like a harder game, not knowing what possible roles could be in.

Yeah, it is going to be interesting. Hopefully not TOO hard, but maybe it will kick things up a notch or two for the players. We don't want anyone getting bored.

Well if there is a tie in the end for the rolls, maybe you could just random.org them and thusly pick from one of the 2 or 3. So we could have a Mad Bomber amidsts us, or instead a star Crossed pair of lovers!
(I'd assume if we had a serial killer, that'd be pretty easy to discover after the first night)
