Dawn. One Day after the breakout at the Asylum. The neighborhood was in a frevor, and everyone was gathered at the Town Hall. Unfortunatly, due to new move ins in the last week, nobody looked familiar to anyone.
The Mayor called to order the large group and the debate to find and lynch a possible Psychopath among them began
The people at the meeting were:
The Mayor - Idle Thoughts
1. Blaster Master 2. Hal Briston 3. Storyteller0910 4. Malacandra 5. Hockey Monkey 6. MadtheSwine 7. Capybara 8. Drain Bead 9. DiggitCamera 10. Kat 11. dotchan 12. GreedySmurf 13. Roosh 14. dnooman 15. cowgirl 16. nesta 17. Pygmy Rugger 18. JSexton 19. Mhaye
Day One has started.
It will take a lucky number of THIRTEEN votes to lynch someone.
Or...whoever has the MOST votes when Day ends...at 1pm Saturday PST. It's three o clock PM now.
Vote in blue and unvote in red.
Go.

Even though we've had this discussion in many other games about random voting, I still think it's a good way to start the day.
So, per random.org:
[glow=blue,2,300]Vote Malacandra[/glow]

Wait, we're VOTING already, not just random.org FOSes? With the sudden-death possibility this game with voting, that seems a little. . . sociopathic. . . as does BM's name color. . .

That's how I read the word too.
Please folks, remember. Grudges Are Bad. Acting to get even with teh so-and-so who got you killed in the previous game just leads you up the garden path.
Just because Kat was Cult in M5, does not mean that she's a Psychopath in this one. (It doesn't mean she's not, either).
Wait and see before jumping on people. It's much more fun if you have... evidence.

I'm not about to get into another random vs whatever discussion again. Ugh. Just be aware that my time is being split between two games right now, so while I am very eager to start and participate in this one, I still have obligations in the other one. (I think this one is going to have a whole different dynamic than Blaster's but both will be good.)

Even though we've had this discussion in many other games about random voting, I still think it's a good way to start the day. I've never been a fan of it myself, but I suppose with the game being only four posts old, it's as good as any other. The only other voting reasons I can think of are voting based on roles from previous games (very bad idea), or voting based on how obnoxious the color scheme is on a person's name (I could be talked into it). And on preview -- cripes...I get one phone call in the middle of my post and that "four posts old" is now "14 posts old"...

You're kidding, right? Like JSexton said, it takes 13 votes. Unless there's some kind of massive simul-post, it ain't going to happen without VERY solid evidence (like the Steele reading in M4, or the false, but VERY promising reads on Autolycus in M2 and MadTheSwine in MV). In order to get 2/3 of the votes, you're going to need a MAJOR slip. However, I will say that if, for some reason, a LOT of votes suddenly pile on on Malacandra very quickly, I'll unvote him to prolong the day.

And thanking my lucky stars that I managed to finish a big project at work yesterday so I can in all good conscious keep on eye on doings here from work. [Not that my boss needs to know that alright ] Never been one for throwing things out at random, so personally, I'll reserve my vote until a bit later in the day.

Well, I suppose there are few better options to get things started. Just seemed a little early for actual votes. I guess over on the boat I thought a more conversational icebreaking approach would help, but look where that got me, har. I suppose we have determined over time that no 'real', hard information is likely to appear on day one unless a player pulls an unbelievably stupid maneouver or really sticks a foot in it. But again, a random vote for someone-- what are they supposed to do or say, except give a feeble defense but "I'm not scum"? They've no track record to call upon.

Remember, you have FOUR regular days in this "Day". One of the things usually done to distingish the difference between real life day and game Day is to capitalize the D in Day and N in Night. FTR, I just capitalize the word (and to avoid ambiguity, I rewrite if it begins a sentence) because I find the general convention of toDay to be bothersome. So I'll use Day, Night, Today, Tonight, Tomorrow, etc. to refer to Game Days and day, night, today, tonight, tomorrow, etc. to refer to IRL days. I don't necessarily expect to replace what has become the defacto standard, but just so everyone understands my posts.

But again, a random vote for someone-- what are they supposed to do or say, except give a feeble defense but "I'm not scum"? They've no track record to call upon. The point is to spark conversation and, hopefully, participation from the votee. That is, the random votes have sparked the beginnings of a conversation, so that part is, so far, successful. Further, I intend to leave it on Malacandra until I suspect someone else more for legitimate reasons. That is, at this point I must inherently suspect everyone equally. Thus, if other individuals start to appear more trusted, but no one becomes less, there's no reason to change my vote; however, if someone drops (potentially including the votee), then I can legitimately vote for that individual and it is no longer a random vote. Finally, not that I necessarily expect Malacandra will be an under-the-radar player, but it will encourage him to participate.

What the...a vote on me already? FOS everybody who claims random.org gave them their vote. How is that verifiable? Why does verifability matter? I could just as easily pull a name out of my head, and vote for him, and give some humorous reason. However, as MHaye pointed out, grudges are bad; even worse is the opposite of undeserved trust. Thus, if I pull a name out of my head, or vote for someone because they do something that I can pretend is a reason, it is potentially biased and thus decidedly NOT random. Further, a townie has nothing to fear, because they HAVE no information, while scum potentially does. Hence, if a scum is deliberately lying and saying he is using random.org when he is not, he risks tipping his hand. Hence, it seems dumb for anyone who believes in random (or essentially random) votes to use anything but random.org (or a similar randomizer).
