The second day started off rather quiet, as it was obvious after only a few minutes that Ed was scum. The smashers tried to start discussing things, but the found it difficult as Ed shouted, spoke in tounges and danced around the group, hoping that they would adjourn prematurely. A few people ran off, only to reappear, sounding slightly different. Finally, no-one could stand it any longer. Everyone got prepared to beat Ed down. Even the Regional Manager decreed an early smack-down was in order. "The Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) is an Irish-Catholic fraternal organization. Members must be Catholic and either Irish born--" Duct tape was wrapped around Ed's face by tdpatriots. "Shut. UP." he said. Then he grabbed a Home Run Bat as sinjin and molefan restrained him. *DING* *SMAAAAASSSSSHHHHH* And Ed disappeared, a star in the vast dusky sky. As was traditional, the group searched his room after he had...left. To no-one's suprise, they found a huge stack of SCUM pamphlets, one of which opened the secret chamber to the Baddie's lair. Also, Hal found a small cage, which contained a waddle dee. He let it out, figuring it could do no harm now that Ed was dead. It hopped around Hal, shouting and dancing much like Ed himself did. Never harmful, but very distracting. Frustrated, Hal killed it. King Dedede (SCUM Mason/Roleblocker), disguised as Mr. Special Ed, is dead.It is now Night 2. Day 3 starts Saturday 8:00 PM EST.

Hm. Ed told the truth about his role name. Not a big surprise, given that there's no canonical villain in SSB, but I think that it's worth pointing out.

Culling the Ed posts?!
Yeah, I ripped, cut, and uploaded that bit just for this post. So there's some effort out of me! Hopefully will begin my reread soon, and given that Ed's lynch was a foregone conclusion I don't think my lateness in speaking on any other issues of the Day will cause too much trouble.

Trying out the new improved calmer more rational sinjin rev 2.3003: Rysto, why would he have given a different name? He was given the other masons names; would he not assume that they knew his name too?

Where I was going with that was it seems that ped has not thought it necessary to give the scum cover roles or anything like Roosh and Dio did in Batman. The most obvious reason for this is if the scum won't be given away by their role names.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone has a cover role, particularly if their role is something like master hand, or whatsisname at the end of brawl.

According to the Mason PMs posted in the Day 1 thread, yes, the three Mason names were given. If Ed tried for a false name, he would either have been counterclaimed by the Mason who had that name, or would have had to try and convince both other Masons that he was given a name not listed in the PM.

A cover name would have been useless for Ed, since pede gave the Mason rolenames in the Mason PMs, but that doesn't mean that the other scum, or the "imposter" couldn't have cover names. Doesn't mean that they do, either, though.

Sorry to see you go, aubby.
Happier to see Ed gone (not in the opposite sense, just happy to get scum).
Speaking of Ed's posts - I actually don't have too much of a problem with an obviously scum player doing his worst to hurt the town. (From a fair play standpoint only, of course.)
There is one thing that really ought to be outlawed - deliberate misquoting in quote tags. Ed's use was humorous, and I don't think it's been done any other way, but it seems kind of close to editing. If it really did continue the game would slow down even more as no quotes could be trusted.
No need to be Super Draconian about it - I would say if it's made obvious in the quoting post (e.g. "Fixed that for you") that it's a joke it should stand.
And I have no problem with the usual cherry-picking, distorting, misreading, improper paraphrasing, etc. Just make it a rule not to mess with what's in the quote box.

Well, it's not like we had any doubts about Ed being scum, so the spamming didn't have any downside from his side. Yeah, but I think it kind of violates the spirit of the game. (Yeah, take that, Roosh! (For those who don't know what I'm referring to, take a gander at the forbidden thread for Evil Dead mafia on the Dope.)) There is nothing wrong with posting whatever information you want and generally being a nuisance of yourself, provided you are actually taking the time to compose the posts. Because then you are actually playing the game. You are taking time out of your day to play a strategy, even if that strategy is to create as much white noise as possible. But mindless spamming copy-pasta of wikipedia articles takes this too far. It take hardly any time to do, and makes the game unfun for everybody else. It's kind of like those guys who play a laid-back pick of game of <insert your sport of choice here> and are overly competitive about it. Sure, they aren't violating any express rules, but they aren't going to endear anyone they play with, and may not get asked to play again.

So I looked back over the events of Day 1. Particularly the mason debacle (I love that word).
Not a lot to glean from it at this point. Too much noise is obscuring the data points. I do find it interesting that Ed was the first to suggest the masons coming out. Now it did buy him some townie cred, apparently, and maybe scum were hoping to drag this thing out a bit (well played by our vig/SK, even if you did hit the wrong person), but I'm wondering if there was more for the scum to gain. After all, the masons didn't know each other had powers, and while for a town mason with a power it might be reasonable to assume the other masons did as well, in the case of a scum mason, it's unlikely, since a scum mason would be at a large disadvantage without a power.
Speaking of powers, I find it interesting that the two town masons revealed there's and Ed didn't.
