Okay..here is a run down of how I have game play go in my hosted games and how it will be in this one. Note that SOME things will be different. Even vastly different. Some you may not be used to and will thus take a bit to adjust to and some you may rejoice in. But this style and mode and ways of playing have always worked for me and put out great games in the past, so I'll continue to use it.
1. First and foremost, Days will last different each time. Sometimes they'll be longer and sometimes shorter. It all depends on how many players are in the game and how fast it moves. Normally I allow Days to last THREE normal Days, but then again, this has always been hosting a game full of teens who don't do much analyzing, so I may up it to four. I think five is a bit too many (but no offense to Blaster).
As players die off and the amount is shorter in the game, Days will shorten as well.
Nights will be even shorter. I usually let Nights go about two normal days, but again, I may shorten it or lengthen it depending on the case. But this is a main rule you have to know right now, so it's not a surprise. No worries, no Day will ever be shorter than TWO normal Days..and the first few will most assuridly be at least four.
That being said...
2. I allow three things in this game that NOBODY has thus allowed yet (in games that we've had SDMB-wise). Again, it might take some getting used to, but I've always allowed this and it's: A. In the Day, scum are allowed to talk and strategize as much as they want.
To even it up, however, B. Everyone, at Night, is allowed to continue to strategize. This takes out ANY and ALL downtime the game has due to Nights (for the real town) and Day (for the Psychos). So really, the game goes on always and constant. However, when it's Night, nobody may cast a vote. You are only allowed to talk. About what is your choice, you all may continue to talk about who or what someone at dusk being killed means, "FOS" and analyze to your hearts content, or even talk about what you all think you should do the next Day. But no voting. And another thing which is very important due to this change: The Therapist MAY NOT ever reveal what he or she knows at Night. S/he MUST wait until Day and take the risk of being killed in the Night first. But if it's currently Night, even with strategy talk going on in the topic, the Therapist may not ever reveal what they know.
Consequently, scum are not allowed to talk about who they're going to vote for until actual Night comes..although during the Day they may do the same on their secret board, talk about things that strike them, plan out lies or strategy, or analyze posts/quotes/players in trying to find roles.
And lastly, the Geniuses may ALSO talk amongst themselves whenever they want, alone and private. I will be setting up a board for them as well, so it's there if they want. IF they are the only ones left after all scum have been killed, they win as their own team, after all.
I realize some may not like these three differences but I've mentioned them beforehand to some of you and I've actually found that it was taken well. Nevertheless this is how my game goes, so I'd ask that you all try it.
3. Once you're dead, you're dead. You may continue to post in the topic and scum is allowed to post on their boards, but they may NOT help or contribute to the game.
4. Another difference in my games, albeit not a big one. Day ends one of two ways: When the time that I have set is up...or if someone gets the required number of votes. There WILL BE NO twelve hour period when someone gets the needed number that I set. This is important you remember it. Therefore votes WILL be important and casting the final one may make all the difference.
That being said, once/if someone gets all the needed number of votes....REGARDLESS IF DAY IS CLOSE TO ENDING, all of the other votes for that person are LOCKED and nobody may unvote. Again, this is if and when someone casts the last vote that is needed for a lynch. When that last one is cast, all votes are locked and Day ends (whether I'm online or not). Any unvotes or changes made after that will not be counted.
Consequently, any votes or unvotes that take place after the Day time limit expires will not be counted.
5. If there is a tie, I will be taking all of the players who have tying votes and there will be a normal day extention of Day to vote just for those who were in the tie.
IF there is another tie at the end of the extention...then Day ends without ANYONE being lynched and town gives up the right for a chance of finding scum.
Consequenlty, at Night, since there won't be a leadership role for the Psychopaths, if there is a tie at the end of Night, they don't get a second chance and Night ends and they give up the right to kill someone off.
Yeah, I know, it may sound a bit strict now, but really, it's not. Plus, like I said above, although this game IS more simple with roles and stuff, the general rules make votes and choosing who you vote for MUCH more meaningful and important. It will make not only town but scum have to play very wisely on who to cast votes on and lynch and really give thought to it while also making people make up their minds and be sure of their decisions.
6. As per usual, please put your votes in blue and your unvotes in read, FOSs can be yellow, and questions to me in green, although the last two aren't required.
7. No cheating, obviously. This game is based on trust of the players not to do things like show PMs or talk in IM or PM with others. And, of course, I'm counting on whoever the Therapist is, if they ever die without revealing who is who, to keep mum.
8. People in this game, to the Therapist, read either Normal or Psychopathic. There is no reading of Genius or Doctor or Crazy Townie. If the Therapist investigates one of these, s/he will just get a read of "Normal"
Consequently, the Therapist, if the Lovers are in the game, won't get a read of Lover.
The only one s/he get a read on is if the Serial Killer is in the game, and that will read as "Serial Killer" and then the Therapist will have a choice to keep what they know or rehabilitate the SK. However if the Therapist chooses to rehabilitate, it will take TWO NIGHTS and s/he will give up the right to the power for the next Night (to investigate someon else), however the SK won't be killing either of those Nights. (really, this is all just talk right now since I don't even know if the SK will be in the game. )
And that's it.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.
Yeah, there's some differences, like vote locking and talk for all sides at any time of the Day or Night...but in a way, this just makes the game all the more tense and tricky. It makes people have to be more clever and smart. And it places more importance on votes, I feel, and makes people realize that NOT VOTING could make a huge difference.
