Rugger, I haven't mentioned how much I enjoy your sig file. I admire your willingness to play in the political threads on the Dope; they frighten me.

Would it be too much to ask for some positive karma since I'm going to die?
I'd much rather go to the place of puffy white clouds. The weather's nicer.

Well sadly I'm right of most of SDMB, so I avoid them like the plague Not so far right that I don't make sense. But I have been a registered Republican so ya know. (Though I did vote for Kerry and would have voted for Hillary and never once did a straight Republican) /political fluff

Rugger, I haven't mentioned how much I enjoy your sig file. I admire your willingness to play in the political threads on the Dope; they frighten me. Thanks! Or rather, thank jayjay. I've never thought I'd use another's post as a sig file, but it was just so flippin' funny I didn't really have a choice. The political threads frighten me, too, but I've come to realize (very recently, which is kind of naive on my part) that, regardless of the rationality of somebody's political perspective (including my own), nobody's going to change anybody's mind about anything. Which kind of sucks. On my facebook profile, my political affiliation is listed as "Apathetic". That used to sum it up, and I got kind of excited this election. If Obama gets elected, I'm probably going to lose my job (he's not really into nuclear energy), but I'm still going to vote for him anyway. My first choice, weapons design, is also going to see some severe budget cuts, but I can easily go into retrofitting structures to withstand terrorist blasts, which is almost as fun and much more morally satisfying.

Abortion last trimester though, see I don't believe in the slippery slope, and don't think it should be allowed under anything but the most severe reasons *life at risk* Other than that early term abortions are not any of my business, they are for the parents to decide(another thing I disagree with a lot of people on I did say parents equal rights and all that junk) ///////political fluff

There will always be someone willing to pay you to help them build a weapon. In other words, I should have done something like that.

I'm a classical liberal. Something for everyone to be annoyed with. Only annoying thing about you is the fact you're a Patriots fan. Steelers will own the AFC starting next year for the next 2 years. Until the salary cap gets removed ... then Cowboys/Redskins/ other rich teams will own the league:(

I think IMHO you're putting to much in on what a president can actually accomplish. A lot, if not all, come in wanting things that will never, ever, ever succeed. Makes good talking points, encourages the unwashed masses they can have change but it boils down to nothing ever changes in our government. Damnit this isn't fluff! You nonfluffy gastard ETA I want to say Bastard! bastard, bastard

The Steelers are a solid team but they seem to lack playmakers on offense and defense. They remind me a lot of the Tennessee Titans when they were the third wheel of the AFC trio of dominance (along with the Colts and Patriots) in terms of how talented they are.
The problem for my Patriots is we're like the Colts of that era. Our offense is incredible, it will likely be much better next year (I am completely serious and willing to go into detail on this). Our defense however is old and full of holes. The most important part of a defense, our defensive line, is pretty awesome. But our interior linebackers lack the strength to shrug off blocks that is necessary in the running game, and our outside linebackers can't stay healthy. Our secondary is aging and more or less run of the mill. I don't know what to make of our chances until Training Camp, though, they have a lot of assets left to use.

Well, yeah. NHL playoffs start in a couple weeks.
Of course, my Senators are going to find themselves bowing out in four unless they get their asses in gear.

If you want to model anyone on no playmakers you're a fan of the team that supposedly started it. (Though Peter King Or Paul Zimmerman forget which, rightly pointed out it has been a Steeler legacy to get no name players and plug them into playmakers) I think the Patriots will find a way to win as long as Brady plays well, if and when he stops playing well it's over. Of course they have other weapons but none as team supporting as Brady. Picking up Moss was the best play of last year, and probably the biggest in the last few years. In terms of a single player being able to benefit a team. Steelers have been written off so many times, yet manage to make a stand year in and year out. I like that in my team.

Well, yeah. NHL playoffs start in a couple weeks. Of course, my Senators are going to find themselves bowing out in four unless they get their asses in gear. I wish I could watch hockey again. I stopped watching after Jagr, Lemioux (sp) and the awesomeness left my Penguins. And I couldn't stand watching the formerly great team play like total and utter shit. Though I have supported them by going to watch them a couple times a season. Since I didn't want them to get bought and moved or anything. I see this year they are doing great but I just don't have the interest in it any more.

(Though Peter King Or Paul Zimmerman forget which, rightly pointed out it has been a Steeler legacy to get no name players and plug them into playmakers) Saying a good team has no playmakers, in any example including the ones you list, usually means they have no one famous and loud. Bandwagon Patriots fans and most fans of other teams genuinely believe it, though, the the Patriots had no playmakers. It's completely untrue, and no better fan than to prompt a reminder than a Steelers' fan. AFC Championship Game, Patriots (after the Tuck Game) took on the Steelers in Pittsburgh. Playmaker? Troy Brown. He had what, a punt return touchdown and recovered a block kick, lateraling the eventual touchdown? There were tons of playmakers on those Patriots teams, there had to be, to make up for all the other shitty players.
