If Gunn role-claims Gunn he remains the alignment he was at the time of claiming; if pro-pirate at the time, he loses the ability to survive a night kill and become a night-killer himself. He still doesn't gain admission to the pirate circle.
Someone asked about the possibility of Gunn claiming while pro-pirate and becoming essentially unkillable and almost guaranteed to win: the crew would know they needed only lynch all the pirates for Gunn to align their way, the pirates would know a night-kill on him would only make him a pro-crew killer. This ruling should solve the problem and ensure that Gunn is played the way he should be: afraid of the pirates and suspicious of the honest men.
