Day 6
Aug 6, 2011 23:43:41 GMT -5
Post by Meeko on Aug 6, 2011 23:43:41 GMT -5
Alexis walked past the lemming pit.....
Alexis reached down and picked up the body of
JustBeingGinger
JustBeingGinger was a Hystrix Indicus, better known as an Indian Porcupine. She was the Town Vigilante.
JustBeing Ginger could shoot their quills at night, the target of those quills would die if they weren't otherwise protected.
It is now Day 6. Day 6 will end at 12:01 am EST on 8/12.

Oh, Ginger. Why didn't you kill last Night? ?? Well. Down to eight players, and if there are three Scum this is lynch-or-lose. Badly as I've played so far, I don't want to lose, so I'm going to make every effort to look back through the whole game and see if I can figure something out. I really wish Ginger had killed someone last Night. I really don't understand why she didn't.

Well although JustBeingGinger's demise comes as no big surprise... and it's a great shame that her request wasn't fulfilled last Night... I'm still confused as to why CatInASuit IF SCUM would have pointed out their thoughts on who was the VIG and therefore have people look closely at them toDay for doing this ?
My initial thought was that CatInASuit could have actually been the VIG themselves and was trying to deflect attention from them onto someone else in order to survive another Night.... just show how often I am wrong about things...
What I'm trying to decide now is if SCUM really would do that ...

Meeko, will you confirm that we have (or have not) seen all of the activity that we will be seeing in terms of deaths from last Night? You guys will never understand how hard it is for me to compose my thoughts when it comes to aspects like this, player or Mod. Fuck me I feel so much analysis paralysis. Here is my best crack at it. I treat all kills equally. The tie breaking mechanism was the time stamp. The scum NK was in before the Vig NK. Scum decided to NK Ginger. Therefore, I ruled that a dead Vig couldn't vig.

I really object to that ruling, in the strongest possible terms. There was never even the slightest hint given that the timing of action orders would play any role whatsoever in the outcome. This is very different from the way that these things have been handled in the past, and we were given no indication that there would be a difference this time.
Grumble.

Kills generally occur simultaneously, so that 'overlapping' or 'conflicting' kill orders are both successful.
One could argue that nothing should be assumed in a game of Mafia, so we should have verified the order of actions for ourselves.
One could also argue that certain things are 'given', and that the Mod should let us know when the game rules are different from the norm.
In either case, what's done is done, so we need to make sure we choose wisely Today.

This is very different from the way that these things have been handled in the past, and we were given no indication that there would be a difference this time. Grumble. Those that needed to know it, knew it. If you want to talk about coming to this game with a given set of assumptions, and having that set get shattered, well, just then, just then you can begin to understand my frustration with all things potatoes. It sucks when your limited grasp of a game shrinks before your eyes. I GET IT. This has been my entire beef with potatoes. [if you will] Look, I don't mean to be cruel here, but I had to draw the parallel. The difference in time was over 10 hours. I would love to know how a dead porcupine can shoot quills 10 hours later. But apparently, you guys can assume everything in the world and always be right. Even when you guys are dead wrong on some things*. * This is all I will say about this, for now. More after the game. But, the "facts" that I bring to the game, Even when they are set in stone, can still be changed**. ** This is all I will say about this, for now. More after the game. I leave you with two quotes from Yogi Berra : 1. I wish I had an answer to that, because I'm tired of answering it. 2. It Ain't over till it's over.

NETA for Clarification, Separated for convenience
1. I should have said that Color dictates a difference in this game.
Color dictates a difference in this game.
That is to say, you can argue the overlap angle all you want, it's not going to change how actual porcupines and lemmings live.
Perhaps A bit revisionist on my part here, but I committed to the current timing schema in effect before Day 6 started. We can review this at length later..... But I will demand equal time to the entire "The Doctor gets to lie his ass off" gambit.
2. The quotes from Yogi Berra have direct application to the current game state. Although I'm kinda reneging on the first one right now.
No further comment on the second quote.

Day 6
Aug 8, 2011 11:32:41 GMT -5
Post by Suburban Plankton on Aug 8, 2011 11:32:41 GMT -5
Let's look at the votes cast yesterDay on CatInaSuit and Silver Jan. For purposes of this analysis, I am considering moodymitchy and LightFoot (Masons) and Archangel (cleared by fubbleskag) to be confirmed Town.
2-Suburban Plankton votes CatInaSuit (1-0) 13-JustBeingGinger votes CIAS (2-0) 18-CatInaSuit votes Silver Jan (2-1) 21-Silver Jan votes CIAS (3-1) 31-moodymitchy votes SJ (3-2) 48-Silver Jan unvotes CIAS (2-2) 53-JustBeingGinger unvotes CIAS, votes SJ (1-3) 54-LightFoot votes CIAS (2-3) 55-gnarlycharlie votes SJ (2-4) 56-storyteller votes SJ (2-5) 58-Archangel votes CIAS (3-5) - last post of the Day
Of the 3 voters on CatInaSuit, we have two confirmed Town and Suburban Of the 5 voters on Silver Jan we have two confirmed Town and three unknowns
We also have Inner Stickler voting for Suburban Plankton. He make that vote in Post 6, and never changed it.
The voting was tied 2-2 as of Post 48. After that, only two 'unknowns' voted, both for Silver Jan.
If this was an effort to save CatInaSuit, then I believe storyteller is Scum along with him.
If CatInaSuit is Town, then my gaze falls on Inner Stickler, who was happily sitting with a vote on me, not caring which of the two candidates were lynched yesterDay. And in that case, a process of elimination tells me that storyteller is also Scum (since I have stated that I believe gnarlycharlie to be Town, and I know myself to be).

The difference in time was over 10 hours. I would love to know how a dead porcupine can shoot quills 10 hours later. It's extremely nonstandard to have realtime effects to night actions. They usually resolve at dawn. I can't remember the last time I was in a game where I had to beat another poster or my action wouldn't be carried out. Even if the appropriate posters know, it puts an added stress on them because they must race to get a night action in rather than spending the night to analyze the situation. Remember, that's the whole point of a night of a prescribed length. The Night Actors have that time to decide who to target. With your method, Night should simply end once all appropriate night actions are in. And anyway JBG sounds like she wasn't aware of an additional time constraint beyond the end of Night.

It is a very, very good thing that I can't host a game here for a while after this. I'm not so sure I will even play after this, let alone Mod.
My opinion of ALL things Mafia has shifted, for the worst.
Apparently, even when you host a game, you have NO CONTROL over it at all.
One wonders how our game evolves at all, if everyone makes a stink over everything.

You see, I have just the opposite reaction to the idea of modding after seeing ho this game is going. I have a few ideas that I've been kicking around for a game, but I've never dug in and really tried to balance things out and polish them up to the point that I have something playable. But now I think I'm going to jump in and give it a try, and one of the reasons is because I can't wait to see how the players will take my carefully crafted game and turn it into something that I could never have imagined

One wonders how our game evolves at all, if everyone makes a stink over everything. Oh, for God's sake, people are complaining about a decision that blatantly favors one side at a critical juncture of the game, one with no precedent and zero warning in a game billed as "open." You have complete "control" over the game... but is that really the most important point? ---- Meh, OK, whatever. It's lynch or lose either way, most likely, and will be every Day from now until it's over, which means Town has to be perfect from here on out. Our odds are very bad. Still, now I'm pissed enough to expend some serious effort. Starting now, back on Day One. Back tomorrow with results.

I seem to miss the strangest parts of the Days. Sorry to see you go JBG, please be nice to cats. Now is not the time to comment on the NK procedures, I'll do that after the game, for now, let's try and win it regardless. It's possibly not LoL toDay as well. I still see no reason it shouldn't be three scum, so if we hit the last remaining other VT today and IIRC the lynch tie mechanism is a random draw between the lynch leaders, we could possibly win on a technicality as we do random draws. Then again, that does depends on whether the scum wincon is to match the number of town or control the vote. I hope its the latter, but let's not go there shall we. Anyone want to volunteer that info? ;D So given that, one from Gnarlycharlie, Inner Stickler, Storyteller or Suburban Plankton is VT and the rest are scum. *prepares blindfold and dartboard*

I wish I had time to look at Plankton vs. Stickler vs. charly, but I simply don't. I will not be dead toMorrow, so I'll do it then. For now, I urge the Vig to kill toNight. If there are three Scum left, then toMorrow is lynch-or-lose whether you kill a Townie or not; might as well take your best shot and hope. *underline mine* I do have one question to ask you, storyteller. How are you so certain in this Day 5 statement that you will not be dead on Day 6, given that the Vig could have picked anyone in the unknown pool. As the lurkiest player left with a really patchy voting record, you would have been a good target for a Vig. So what did you know about the Night Kills on Day 5, that we didn't know about until say Day 6? Yeah, that's worthy of a vote. Outrun Storyteller

If it's good enough for my mason buddy it's good enough for me...
My take on the Night action for what it's worth..
IF all parties were aware that the actions would happen on a first come first served basis... then fair enough.
In future, IF this sort of thing is used again , I feel it would be to the 3rd parties advantage rather than SCUM... one person can come to a consensus a lot quicker than a group can.
