Poor, poor, BillMc. There he goes again getting recruited, NK'd because he can't be recruited. Surely, if he was the NR, he would commit suicide after the last sampling, ie. turn up dead on Day 5. Did I read that wrong?
I don't think that was a lucky shot, I think the MPP tried to recruit him on Night 1, which failed and so became the NK victim. The only two people who cannot be recruited are town power roles, so killing them outright is the right thing to do.

A Night Kill wouldn't have been necessary. Also, when the rules say 'before the final sampling' it means before his own final sampling. That is, if he were the 1st person selcted, he would die at Dusk Day 1. If he were the 2nd, he would die at Dusk of Day 2, etc.

I'm thinking texcat is of the poddish persuasion. Maybe Paranoia too, but I'm less certain there.

I am so unbelievably pissed about the crap cases that got me lynched. That is probably the most frustrating thing as scum. Dying for the wrong reasons. It's much more bearable to be caught out fair and square. I completely agree

I am so unbelievably pissed about the crap cases that got me lynched. While I feel ya... I also had you in my top two or three suspects for MPP. You weren't my top guess but you were pretty close to it. Actually my top one was Pollux, which will hardly surprise anybody here who knows our history (he was the first person I ever got mislynched on this board, and practically the only times I've ever not suspected him in a game is when I've been scum!) Personally, with the sole exception of my one stint as Godfather in "Gastard" (I failed sooo badly in that game), I almost always make it to the very end and win when I'm scum. I also seem to get lynched early on with depressing frequency when I'm not... not sure whether that reflects worse on me, or the people who keep playing with me and getting it wrong! But yeah, my day one mislynch in "Skrull Planet" irritated me so much that I couldn't get over it in the next game and decided to bow out and let someone else have a shot before I ruined it for everyone else. So yeah, I know how much it sucks when you don't feel as though your lynch is "deserved".

Oh, and I'd be interested to see who you selected for "recruitment". The town has an advantage now because they can look up your history and see who you might have picked... there are players in the game that I would never pick, and others who I've already had successful scum campaigns with and would probably avoid because they'd be obvious picks for me. Think I know who I'd pick but it's gonna be interesting seeing what criteria you used...

I am so unbelievably pissed about the crap cases that got me lynched. Sorry. It's happened to me at least once, so despite being one of the leaders of your lynch, I do know how frustrating it is. But hey, that's what you get for not recruiting me.

They've brought up an interesting concept. What would you do if you had reason to believe you were sampled, but (obviously) not yet recruited?
Raising the stakes: What if you knew you were sampled, but the rest of Town didn't.* Would you come clean and advocate your own lynch, dying before you're recruited and thus staying on the side of Town? Or would you keep mum and wait for the recruitment to happen, so you can switch sides and work with Scum?
*Yes, that's not possible in this game, but we're playin' hypotheticals here.

Well, as far as I'm concerned, your hypotheticals are the same because if all I have to go on is, "known scum defended/ignored/treated me differently here" well, that's not really reasonable, in my opinion. They tried it in the first iteration and mislynched at least two people. So, if all I have is a gut feeling, I'd ignore it and play as town as long as I'm town. If I know I've been sampled, then I'd tell everyone because at the time of my knowing, my wincon is town and helping them to lynch a recruit is in town's and therefore my best interest. Someone without my high ethical standards may decide differently, however. Moley, I'm glad. Also disappointed at how little talking there is. I mean, sure, it helps me out but it makes for a boring thread to read. I'm also surprised at the number of people who seem unclear on some of the basic concepts of the game that I thought we had hammered out day 1.

peek's plan has holes. I think he seems to be under the impression that any player cleared by the Town Drunk is A-OK, but that's not the case if the TD investigates someone who was already recruited. Plus we have no idea if the Psychoanalyst has been recruited or not, unless the TD already investigated them and managed to get a Sampled result.
His plan outs the TD, so now scum can target him. They kill Red first (or wait until he's recruited, if he was sampled), and then take out the only confirmable town role left. Meanwhile, unless either investigator comes up with a positive result, town gains no solid alignment information at all!
What's more worrisome, though, is SisC's agreement with the plan. That post, short as it may be, pinged the hell out of me. Implied vote in favour of the plan, worded carefully so that she can back off if the plan is shot down, but avoiding shooting it down herself. I fear she may be scum.
Why do I have to be dead!? Town needs to hear all this! Okay, sure, I may be wrong about Sis (still resisting the temptation of spoilers), but still. If nothing else, someone better start discussing the potential downsides of peeker's plan. This is a game where we can't fully rely on the investigators like we can in normal games, and I don't see that acknowledgement in peeker's post.

While I will readily admit I may have lower ethical standards (I'm always scummy at heart), I think it's not that much an ethical issue if you can choose between dying with (and for) your original wincon Today vs. acquiring a new wincon Tomorrow and rolling with that one instead. More of a risk-assessment issue--does it look like scum or town will have a better chance at winning? Will your death or recruitment affect that significantly?

Looking at peeker's plan and yeah it has holes.
Also, I would seriously look at voting guiri for that attempted clearing of several people based on D1/D2 when not all the podding has taken place. Also, he's someone I would have seriously considered recruiting as well.

I would be less annoyed if this had been the argument that actually brought me down than the accusation of flip-flopping. Truth of the matter is, I misread peek's plan and didn't think it through all the way, which I would have done had I still been Town. Because I always play as if I were Town, even when I'm Scum (from the get-go, or recruited as in this case). Also, Inner, I'm flattered, I think. Red's absence is probably beneficial for Scum.

No, I'm saying your argument wasn't wrong; it was closer to the truth than what everyone jumped me for.
I would have made the same mistake and (probably) been lynched for the same reason if I had been Town, is all I'm saying.

I probably shoulda seen Sis C coming, but didn't for some reason. Oh hum. Truth be told, I hardly had any impression of her, positive or negative. But then I haven't been doing any serious analysis of this game. Lord knows I did enough of that in my last game here (Sis C's) and I STILL didn't catch Guiri until the very end. Agh, I hate uberscum who aren't me.

Actually, regarding Sis, I think I may have stumbled onto a working scumdar. In both this game and the recent Hurrdurrburg game, I kept getting a scummy vibe from her. I dismissed it, though, thinking "but I always think she's scummy, right?" Turns out I'm wrong. In whatever other recent-ish game I played with her, I mentioned that she's always off my radar entirely. So when I take notice of her, she must be scum. Right? A sample size of two can't be wrong!

By my count there can't be more than 2 active scum right now. If the guesses about only 3 recruits are correct, then town's got a minimum of 2 mislynches left. If there are 4 recruits, there's a minimum of only one mislynch left (assuming no scum kills are blocked, which, at this point, is probably a safe bet).
Stabbing in the dark, I'd probably look closely at Pollux Oil. Scum are killing the loud and successful; Pollux has certainly been a bit quiet.
Red's lack of participation is killing me. Is he still alive because scum are betting he's out and not helping town? Or is he alive because he's been recruited? If he's still town, did he even submit protection targets Nights 2 and 3?
|
|
|
Post by texcat on Sept 24, 2011 13:27:26 GMT -5
I think he's alive because scum is worried that he is self-protecting. But yeah, as always, lack of participation is a killer.

Wait, why is peeker still alive? He nailed Inner as well as played a part in Sis's lynch, didn't he? Is it because he doesn't post as coherently as others, or has he been sampled/recruited?
Alright, I gotta ask for spoilers now, I can't take this guessing anymore.
