I'd just love it to death if we had a vote counting script similiar to this: www.giraffeboards.com/showthread.php?t=22326My coding skills are barely up to the task of writing ping-bombs and such in Basic. Do we have any leet hackerz over here that could build this?

*hides* I'd love to help, but I am both lazy and too busy.
If, by chance, I were to have a look (assuming no one else volunteers), there are two options:
A: Parse the HTML and look for tags that must be unique to votes. B: Look through the database and look for UB code vote tags. (Easier, but requires read only database access). This could be done by setting up a similar forum and shove in some example threads that a developer could access.

Ok, so I had a look at parsing HTML. That is a pain. This forum doesn't exactly use ids and classes like most modern websites do. It appears in a few strategic places, but oh so many exceptions!
Anyway, I've made a script that can count the votes, but I still need to implement unvotes and it needs a lot of polish. Also, it takes a while to run as it has to parse a bunch of html.

Ok, still not done yet, but it'd be great, if someone could give it a quick test. It is currently hardcoded to test this thread: idlemafia.com/index.cgi?board=poll&action=display&thread=2040Please verify the results from this: chucara.dk/votecount/Please note that it takes a few minutes to process.. Aside from the double vote in post 230, can you post any errors? If this works, I will make it output the vote count proper.

Interesting thread, it would be great to have the script working here too! Just a comment on the selected game thread: each player had 2 votes so it's important to identify which player was unvoted. See #4, #214, #216, #255, #279, #290, #291, #335, #467, #483, #485, #529, #572, #580, #582, #661, and #723. Errors: #76 should be "Sinjin voted Pleonast", not "Pleonast voted Pleo" #214 Meeko also voted Lightfoot and Dizzymrslizzy in the same post #215 should be "KidVermicious voted Pleonast", not "Inner Stickler voted Pleonast" #335 is missing, DizzyMrsLizzy unvoted Meeko #463 is missing, Askthepizzaguy voted dizzymrslizzy #477 should be "Silver Jan voted Mahaloth", not "Pleonast voted Mahaloth" #479 is missing, KidVermicious voted Mahaloth #483 is another double vote, Meeko voted Pleonast AND Inner Stickler #570 is missing, Crys voted Pleonast AND Mahaloth And #19, #336, #435, #718 and #732 are invalid (#19 is a vote for the mod, #336 is a 3rd vote and for a non-player, #435 is a vote for a smiley, #718 is a repeat vote, #732 is after Day End), I don't know if it's possible to exclude these

Ok, so I obviously chose a bad example as I didn't even begin to consider players having two votes.
I will find another example.
Two votes can be done, but for a first version, I think I'd prefer to get it working with the just vote per player.

I would try using Day 8 of that game, we lost our second vote that day (I think)

I'm still working on the tool. I've completely rewritten it to make it more ahem readable.
Still only 1 vote per person.. Will that work for the current game? If not, I can look at improving that once the current version is stable enough.

Ok, please give it another test at www.chucara.dk/votecount/This will count the current game, Day One. I cannot stress enough that you should not yet rely on the results of this script. Also, if you can find the time, please let me know which format you would prefer for the output. If you like, I can output board-compatible code so that it can be copy/pasted directly in. All I need from you is an example of what you want. I.e. which tags to you want surrounding the inactive votes, etc.

That matches my hand count, Chucara.
This isn't just for me, but if I had my preference I'd rather it didn't list the unvotes. I wouldn't worry about the format though, it's always going to have to be edited for votes that aren't spelled right or whatever.

Ok, so you just want the currently active votes? I can make that an option for the script. I will probably make an entry page where you can set your options and the target thread.

Ok, try again. This time you have to copy/paste the URL yourself.
Please make sure you don't include the &page=X part of the URL.
Let me know if it makes sense, and works for you.

I've run this a couple times now, it's matched my handcount each time. I'll let you know if I run into any errors, but I think this will work great!

New version up. - Fixes the Mahaloth vote from pizza so that it is counted with the rest of the Mahaloth votes.

<FONT style="FONT-SIZE: 12px"> chucara the vote count script has flaws- per guiri post 318 and the disappearance of my vote among others
Can you tell us if the script needs specific tags to recognize a vote?
I will see what the problem is. The script looks for the HTML tag font color="blue". This corresponds to the color="blue" tag. It will then strip all tags within the blue text, and it will only count the vote if it contains the word 'vote'. Does it look for the quote marks? I manually code my tags and don't use quote marks...

KidV: It doesn't look in the UB code, it looks in the "raw" HTML. Here, the board always (seems to) generate the quotes.
I'll be back with more info once I get a chance to look at what's wrong in the counts.

Ok, the problem was with the extra spaces from the [ vote ] tags. That should be fixed now. I've also added a BoardFormat option. Enabling the new checkbox will yield the following result if copy/pasted into the reply box here:
(The option of not showing inactive votes remains)
pizza(9): peekercpa (118), Red Skeezix (205), mahaloth (208), guiri (350-363), patricia (353), JustBeingGinger (361-378), dizzymrslizzy (371), guiri (376), JustBeingGinger (378), wombat99 (380), lauriern (388) Askthepizzaguy(6): askthepizzaguy (219-285), crys (313), Sister Coyote (383), Pollux Oil (394), Hockey Monkey!
