Please read this entirely as it describes the two chat features we have right now and the advantages/disadvantages of both. Only one will be kept.
We have two chats right now. One found at the top of the screen all the way to the right (the icon that reads "chat") and a board now where one can go to chat in our own IRC channel directly on the boards.
Both have advantages and disadvantages.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to help decide which is better to keep...for I will only ultimately keep one. You do this by helping me out by trying both of them and then voting for which you like better.
The addonchat (the one accessed at the top as an icon) has many features and advantages such as: Sounds, simple use, easy to get to know features and how to work things, and relatively small and simplistic. However some disadvantages is it's very limited with what it can do. Not many sounds, no OPs or mods (not that we need them), no typing in a different color, and no name changes unless you sign out and sign back in. There's also a cool "floating" feature you can use.
The IRC chat (found if you click on the "Chat" forum) is a bit more advanced but more complex to get used to and figure out. Some advantages are: More sounds, OP and mod giving power, the ability to type with different font and color, and a doorbell sound whenever someone new enters. Some disadvantages are: Well, it can be confusing if you don't know how IRC works. Sometimes the commands take some memorizing. Example: To change your name in the IRC chat, type "/ nick yournewnamehere". It also has less and lesser original smiles.
But both chats have a lot of the same features. They both have sounds and smiles. You can Private IM people on both. You can STILL browse these boards (and other sites) in other tabs/windows yet still stay in the chats on both. And they're both pretty fast.
So it all comes down to...which should we keep and which should we get rid of?
Try out both, if you will, and stay in them for awhile over the next few days. Talk amongst yourselves. Try out the features and play around with things. See what you can discover feature-wise. And then vote in this topic sometime between now and MONDAY NIGHT, for I will then tally the votes up and only keep the chat feature that people enjoy the most.
Yours,
Chris
