Way up North, in New England, there is a small town in New Hampshire called Crazyville. Crazyville is a quaint, peaceful town, with only one major flaw. It is home to the biggest insane asylum in New Hampshire: New Bedlam. However most of the locals just call it, plainly, the asylum.
It is run by a very good Therapist, Dr Smith, who, although he's new to Bedlam, has worked for ten years in other asylums. Due to his newness at this one, however, he hasn't had much time to see or get to know the inmates (and thus would not be able to identify or recognize them on sight). Most of the inmates at the asylum are PURE mad. They are people who have butched whole families without a single second thought. Nay, it's not just the biggest in New Hampshire, but the highest secured one in the whole US. However most of these inmates are BRILLIANT in being able to pass themselves off as being sane. Think Hannibal Lecter.
You'd THINK that it'd be set away from communities and such, but no, having been built in 1884, neighborhoods have long since been built up around New Bedlam and currently the one street that leads up to it's gates is one full of homes on either side. This is Asylum Lane, named back in 1902 when it was paved to make no mistake about what road New Bedlam is on. Why anyone would want to live on a street of that nick is beyond this hosts comprehension, but live there a lot of people do. And quite happily.
Until one day.....
It was all over the local news. A fire somehow broke out at the asylum and, in the mess and confusion that followed, many inmates escaped. Police and asylum officials believe that they are currently all in the vincinity of New Bedlam.
Dr Smith was called to the scene and along with another new doctor they had recently who treated the sick and injured, Dr Johnson, they got order restored as best they could and turned their attention to the neighborhood.
The people living there were all worried of course. Most of them had just moved in and were still unaware of who their neighbors might be or really, anything about their fellow townies. Everyone gathered in the Town Hall which was at the opposite end of Asylum Lane each day and tried to find out who among them was a psychopath trying to stay free and hidden. Meanwhile, as the Days and Nights went on, Dr Smith and Johnson were going house to house also learning as much as they could, individually about the people and trying to find the escapees. Dr Smith knew that if he just had one Night alone with a person, he could analyze them and deduct correctly if they were sane or not. Meanwhile Dr Johnson was busy sitting with different people each Night, making sure they weren't attacked.
It was this way, they hoped to eventually round up all the Psychopathic escapees before they totally wiped out the whole neighborhood in a rather gruesome fashion.
Roles:
Townie/Citizen: You are a person who lives in the on Asylum Lane and want to find the Psychos as soon as possible. Each day when you all gather at the Town Hall, you will have one vote in which you can say who you think is Psychopathic.
Dr Smith: You are a Therapist/Hypnotist who has excellent analyzing skills. Unbenowst to the townies, you have instilled a hypnotic suggestion in each of them. Each night you'll visit one in their home and speak a word to them that will put them in a trance and thus open their mind to you so you may explore it. Afterwards, you'll learn if they are sane or insane and they will have no prior memory of you being there that Night. While uncouth and certainly immoral a bit, you believe this was needed for steath.
Dr Johnson: You are a Doctor who will choose one a person each Night to sit with and protect. You may also choose to not sit with anyone and thus sit only on guard against yourself...but if you choose to sit with someone else, your entire attention will be on them and you will be vunerable to a kill.
Genius- You are a townie with a very, very, VERY high I.Q. and thus, you're an excellent judge of moral character and other people with high intelligence. This means you'll be able to know who else is someone with a very, very, VERY high I.Q. (Genius)
Crazy Townie- You are a townie, however living alone all of your life, it's made you very eccentric, not to mention paranoid. Thus you carry weapons with you wherever you go. You will NOT be taken down without a fight. Therefore if you're ever lynched in the Day or murdered at Night, you're taking SOMEONE with you, you don't care who.
Psychopath- Pure evil that wants to stay alive and stay free.
And finally, there will be a role that will be voted on after the sign up is complete and the players are in place.
Win conditions are really simple.
Psychos win when they total ONE number more than all of the townies.
Townies win when they get rid of all of the Psychos.
Geniuses win if all the Psychos are dead AND they are the remaining townies.
And depending on what the last role will be, I'll edit this up if it has it's own win.
As you can see, this game is going back to the basics. It's really very simple. Well, very simple compared to the games that we've had as of late (which is not to say that they're bad, but sometimes simplier is good every so often).
