As many of you are already aware (thought some may not be) there's been a steady flow of posters from the Dope who are registering for a new message board, domebo.net, as well as a few other boards that people have set up in recent months in anticipation of a massive and fragmented exodus. There is a pretty diverse population on domebo, and I can't speak for anywhere else because I haven't been to any of them. There are people who are truly fed up with the Dope and probably won't be back, folks who are probably going to become truly fed up any day now, folks who still publicly grieve and mourn the loss of the Dope-that-was, folks who hope that the Dope will survive and flourish, etc... I'm not a hater, and I'm still a paid member on the Dope, and will probably pay up for another year this spring. But my posting volume (outside of games) has definitely decreased over the past year, for a variety of reasons not at all related to the community or the administration, but the community and the ownership do seem to be going through a pretty significant metamorphosis this time around. I was invited there by a fellow Mafia player, but they are open to all comers. There are no party-crashers. There is already a brewing Mafia game too, if you want to check it out. I almost forgot, my full name won't fit over there, so you'll have to get used to me as Rabid Renaissance or Rabid Cookies if you prefer...

I find it amusing that the new SDMB rules might interfere with my fluffing there. You can't tell another poster to perform a sexual act upon you? Well, there goes my whole, "Pee in my butt!" schtick.
But srsly, I'm still reading the SDMB and posting somewhat, but I've been over on DoMeBo as well. So we'll see how all that goes.

Has the Dope really gone south that badly? I only read/post on the Dope occasionally but that's more time issues than noticing anything wrong with the board. Of course, I rarely go into the Pit (which I've heard they neutered) and don't really keep up with the About the Message Board stuff, so I have no idea what's going on.

It's not so much the policies as it is the churlish, petty and overbearing ways they've been created and enforced. :shrugs: But I'm not much for board wars. It's just that Domebo is really fun and enjoyable, so I'm spending time there too.

Hey, I can't get there anymore. I get this: or this: Everyone is getting it. Stupid board outage. This is what we get for growing so fast over there. Um, seriously though, once the board is back up Domebo is pretty cool. Check it out. ETA: it's back up.

There's some difficulty regarding what their hosting service expected, and the actual traffic levels. My understanding is that they're moving to another host.

Yeah, the board is down again because it's moving to a new server. Apperantly we pissed off our old host by actually being so popular as to start taxing their CPU, which is rare for new websites I suppose.
But things are being taken care of quickly and the admins are really good about letting everyone know exactly what is happening when it happens. It's pretty cool.

Thanks, KidV. I knew Giraffe had a board, but didn't know where.
