On one hand, it sucks to have to wear these things all the time.
On the other hand, FUCKIN A, I CAN SEE AGAIN!!!

I've had glasses since I was 8, and I needed them when I was 7.
I also am the most nearsighted person I've ever met.

Hope they work out for you FCoD. I have an apointment with the optomatrist this weekend to get my eyes checked out. It's only a matter of time before I need glasses, I am, so far, the only person on either side of my family over the age of 8 who doesn't wear them.

So far, I am pleased. I can read the computer screen much easier! I can really feel that my eyes aren't working as hard, and it's hard to explain but it's very comfortable.

When I finally got glasses, my mother told me, "oh you're like me, you're one of those people who looks so much better with glasses!" I know it was supposed to be a compliment, but all I heard was, "oh good! You're not nearly so ugly as you used to be!"

Women with glasses are sexy.
I had to get glasses when I was 20. My eyes have been stable for a while now though, I'm starting to look real hard at corrective surgery.

No. Not since my last pair broke about four years ago. Yeah, yeah, I know...really stupid to go on without glasses, but I see fine close up (and up to four or five feet in front of me)...it's just after that everything goes blurry...but I haven't seem to have any pressing need to have it cleared up for me. Yet.

I've been wearing glasses since I was nearly 9.
When I was young, I suffered from a lot of headaches, the proximate cause of which was that my right eye was nearsighted and my left eye was farsighted. Once I started wearing glasses all the time the headaches went away.
The only major change in my prescription was about 2000, when I started needing different prescriptions for reading and distance work. (This was also about the time that the sugar level in my eyes was draining down to normal). I went through about a year of eyestrain every weekday because neither my regular nor reading glasses were quite what was needed for extensive PC work. Then I went onto varifocals and that just stopped.
Glasses are A Good Thing. Varifocals are one of the greatest inventions of all time, even if I do feel like I'm about to fall over every time I walk down a set of stairs.

I'm glad that they are helping FCOD. I could not believe the difference when I got glasses...I suddenly realized that having a constant headache was not normal...hehehe!
Shaggy has really bad eyes. He has worn glasses since he was 5 or so. Our poor children are doomed in the eye sight department.

Bah, amateur. I'm so nearsighted, I have to wear glasses to read. And, yes, as odd as that sounds, it's true. (Since typically it's the farsighted people who need the glasses for reading.) Anything with a normal sized font (newspaper, novel, etc.) is beyond my ability to read with both eyes uncorrected, because I have to hold the thing so close to my face that my eyes have to cross in order to focus. If I want to avoid the eye-crossing, I have to close an eye, but that's a real pain in the ass. I look forward to the day where I get bi- or trifocals. (Not really.) I envy my girlfriend and her slightly better than 20/20 vision.

When I was young, I suffered from a lot of headaches, the proximate cause of which was that my right eye was nearsighted and my left eye was farsighted. My dad has the same problem. And he's got astigmatism to boot. As much as I curse my vision, at least I didn't get his. His only saving grace here is that neither his nearsightedness nor farsightedness are that bad. (I've got a slight astigmatism in my left eye. It doesn't become an issue with contact lenses, but in glasses, one of my lenses is a slightly stronger prescription to compensate for it.)

In other optical news - the Almost daughter is going for an eye operation in a couple of months to rectify a slight squint.
She'll get to have her eyeball laid on her cheek while they tighten the muscles.
Thought I shouldn't be the only one who gets to shudder whenever they think of that ;D

I can't remember far enough back to say when I got glasses. Probably about 7.
And I also am so nearsighted that I need glasses to read. And not just normal size font, either. I need glasses to read large size font, unless the paper is practically touching my nose, and then I have to shut one eye to get it in focus.

I think I'm more nearsighted than anybody else here. Everybody always says that they have worse vision than me, until they look through my glasses and realize holy crap. If I don't have my glasses on, if it's not five-inches in front of my face I can't read it. I think I'm almost legally blind.
I've been told I should get nerd glasses by a friend of mine, but I like my contacts better.

I went to an optometrist about 10 years ago. They gave me a slight prescription that I frankly can't remember the details of one way or the other. I ended up wearing them more as fashion accessories before the finally got good and lost a few years back.

So Pollux and Kat both have legitimate cases as to being the blindest. I think it's time for a diopter comparison to settle this once and for all.
In contacts, I'm -8.5 in both eyes.
In glasses, I'm -8.25 in the right eye and -9.25 in the left (that astigmatism thing I mentioned).
The reason I'm -8.5 in both contacts is they upped my right eye perscription to equal my left just for convenience. (My right eye is -8.25.)
For some reason that has to deal with the greater distortion to vision glasses create when one has astigmatism they had to make my left lens stronger in my eyeglasses than my actual eye perscription would typically warrant. (My left eye is only slightly more elongated than my right.) Hence, the difference in perscription between the glasses and contacts.

My eyes are 20/20.
It's a shame one of them has a large corneal scar across it. I wish I could get glasses/contacts for it, but its not going to happen.

My prescription is -1.0 and -0.5, which is supposedly "barely enough to get glasses." The ophthalmologist AND the optometrist were like, "Don't worry about it you'll probably only wear them when you drive at night. You're not going to want to wear them all the time."
Then I got them and I was like, "WHAAAAAAA everything used to be blurry!" Why the hell would I want to see blurry some of the time when I can see clearly?

My nephew (6) just got glasses. He's a weird mix of stubborn and reasonable. He threw fits about not needing to get glasses, but once he got them, he realized that he really can see better with them and immediately stopped fussing.
I'm -6.0 both eyes (I think).
My husband is probably about the same as FCoD. In college he didn't wear them all the time (and smushed them often!), but now he wears them all the time. I think it is just easier for him to wear them than fuss about putting them on and taking them off. I've looked through his lenses and it looks like plain glass to me.
