0000 hours: A terrible lightning storm struck Gotham City at midnight. It's onset was deadly quick without any warning. Throughout the hour, the rains increased to nearly torrential downpours, and the lighting blasts caused many blackouts in the various boroughs. All residents were advised to stay indoors, clear of the city streets.
0100 hours: News reports of rats pouring into Gotham's streets, seeking shelter as all areas began to flood. The rains were not stopping, and the water levels began to rise to dangerous levels within portions of the City. The torrential rains continue throughout the hour, and the homeless shelters all are at full occupancy by 0150.
0200 hours: The Mayor of Gotham declares a State of Emergency, and requests help from nearby cities. Wayne Enterprises responds to the call by donating its resources to secure blankets, beds, food, and shelters for those put out by the storm. All EMS services, police forces and rescue squads respond to the call.
0250 hours: Rolling blackouts strike Gotham's outer suburbs.
0300 hours: Unconfirmed eyewitnesses reported seeing Arkham Asylum bathed in an eerie green electrical field, emanating from around four large dynamos placed around the corners of the Asylum. The field appears impenetrable to people, vehicles, and even the heaviest of weapons employed by Gotham's finest.
0325 hours: A Gotham PD representative states that "the field appears to be impenetrable, however it is keeping the residents of Arkham inside its walls. Arkham is quite capable of running itself, and though the green anomaly is unusual, there should be no reason to panic."
0333 hours: Screaming can be from within the walls of Arkham.
0335 hours: The Batsignal is clearly visible above the city.
0500 hours: Police reported discovered Stacy Keach, a junior psychologist from Arkham, badly bruised and bleeding outside of the green walls. She is quickly taken into police custody, and a press conference will be held as soon as more information is gathered.
0545 hours: The official statement of Ms. Keach is released to the news authorities. It painted a gruesome picture of what may have transpired, and will continue to occur over the next several Days at Arkham unless someone can stop this. Portions of her statement have been reprinted with permission:
It... it was horrible. The lightning.... It came down on all four sides of us, striking every corner of Arkham it seemed. The lights- The power- all of Arkham's security system went down soon after the lightning struck the buildings. And that's when... when it all went to hell. The backup generators flickered on and then blew, and suddenly we had nothing. The security guards all told us to get back into the main dining area, so we could... barricade ourselves in there. We were trapped! And the screaming that began! The barriers didn't last long at all. Apparently the cells are all open now. ALL of the prisoners- inmates- I mean residents of Arkham were free. After that we never had a chance...
I ran, it's the only reason I'm alive. I hid in an alcove of the main foyer, and saw something just as terrifying: the greatest assembly of villains, criminals, and thugs EVER assembled were creating their own insane dystopia inside of Arkham's walls! They called themselves: "The Town".
I saw a few of them... not all of them look like they're completely in agreement about how the show is being run. A few of them seem to be plotting on their own against the others....
How was I able to escape? It was HIM! HE showed up! The Batman! HE was there! He found me- I was the only one left at that point. He grabbed me and told me he had a device to get me out, but it only had limited power. But to give it to the authorities, which I already did. But he said he's not alone in there; he's going to restore order.
The "Town" is onto him though. Just before I was able to leave, I heard it over the loudspeakers- the "Town" was going to gather at dawn to purge itself of its cancer. One of them would be hanged each dusk, until they'd gotten rid of the Batman and his friends, no matter how many of their own they killed.
What kind of monsters would play such a sick and twisted game? How will Batman and his friends escape?
0617 hours: Dawn Breaks....
and thus begins the Knights Of Arkham Saga...
