I must say, I go for a little while and all hell breaks loose.
As I was reading the thread, I was inclined to agree with Red's logic, and then we got to the wincon thing. I couldn't remember if my own PM had a wincon, so I went to check it, and of course, it doesn't list one. Curious. Very curious.
But I do like Red's logic in that the game doesn't seem large enough to support the number of killers we have. I wonder if this isn't an attempt at a scum bussing to get Red some cred that went wrong due to the whole wincon thing. Good thing we have a vote system that allows us to hedge our bets.
Vote: 3 point vote for Red Skeezix 2 point vote for paul
I am comfortable with Paul punching Red, and if he does, I'll almost certainly remove my vote on paul if Red is Scum. Although, re-reading the role claim, it doesn't say when we'll find out the target's alignment. Paul, do you know?

According to his role claim quote, he can do as many times as he want's during the day. Note the wording: Any time during any day. Seems fishy. Actually.... as quoted it said "Any time during THE day." Don't misquote people, it's bad form. And for what it's worth I am limited to one use per day. To EXACTLY quote what you posted: "1. At any time during the Day, you can Falcon kill someone by Falcon quoting their post and saying:" That doesn't say once per day, so I am left to assume that you asked that question. Otherwise the power is pretty ambiguous to how many times you can use it per day.

now i agree that being able to multi kill breaks the game. but that is not what your quoted pm says.
care to share any pm's where this was clarified or where there is more to your pm or did you just leap to this assumption. something, i might well have done, by the way.

So, Paul, that's a pretty interesting/powerful role you have there. Can you Falcon Punch yourself? Is there a limit to how many times you can Falcon Punch? I saw you can only do it once per day, that makes sense. I am comfortable with Paul Falcon Punching redskeezix, since his win condition slip makes me suspicious of him and I'll probably end up voting for him anyway. --FCOD I sent Pede a PM asking him if I am able to punch myself.... not that I have much interest in doing so. If the kills prove to be more of a burden to town than a benefit I would consider it though.

A slip only in that I didn't check my own PM before I posted. I have no wincon in my pm, so the claim doesn't seem as fishy as before. I am town though. I can claim, and I can provide a semblance of proof if you require. Now that you mention it, I don't think I had a wincon in my PM either. Still, I don't see what is to be gained by claiming this soon. It looks like this is going to be a very long, short game. If you catch my meaning.

Hey everyone,
Well that was in interesting read. I am also a little perplexed as to the lyncher/lynchee death. Wonder if it was almost like a variation of lover roles. By one dying the other also died. Hard to say, but that would be my best geuss. Who knows for sure.
Paul was a interesting read. I think the role seems some what plausable Also it may explain the thinking he would be dead ina few days. Since kinda hard to hide the fact that you Falcon punch in 22 size font someone. Though still seems odd to magic bag and all. So while it seems plausable, I dunno if I fully buy into it. So I am thinking of rereading a bit more indepth to get a better feel for the whole thing.
Red I do agree is odd. Forgetting a character name I could understand but wincon...does seem odd and suspicious.

ok, finally get a chance to sit and read.
now that i read this exchange i am going to
unvote all
i think skeez is either third party or is just a ditz. a lot of times i will see stuff and jump all over it only to have some error in my logic pointed out. in which case, i put tail between leg and retreat. over aggressive townie (or scum) jumping the gun or third party noticing a difference?
but i have a real problem with paul's role. as near as i can tell (and correct me if i am wrong paul) once he falcons someone that's it. it's doesn't appear to be a normal Day power that resolves itself at the end of the Day but rather one that happens immediately. i have never seen this. it seems that this type of role could be rather easily be manipulated by the timing of posts. that doesn't seem copactic at all based just on the non real time nature of the game structure. and this is just a pure hypothetical. town a and scum b are tied for the vote lead at close to the end of the day. paul kills a voter for scum b so i would assume that vote no longer counts since they are then dead. town a swings. that doesn't seem right.
worse, scum a is leading town a by a ton of votes. paul kills scum a since it is a given. ok, now they are dead then i would assume town a swings because they just became the vote leader.
ipso fucto, i don't think paul can be scum if his role is accurately described by him.

I couldn't remember if my own PM had a wincon, so I went to check it, and of course, it doesn't list one. Curious. Very curious. Very. When I read it, I immediately sat up in my chair. I don't have a wincon. Wincon makes me think either third party or scum. Seems a good enough of a bet to me, and frankly I've heard the "killing me will only prove my alignment" defense one too many times from scum. Yes, it could be an innocent mistake from soneone who has played other games, but it feels like a slip to me, and I think that's as good a place to lay my vote as any at the moment. 3 point vote: Red Skeezix[/b] Possibly. However, in a zero-vanilla environment, I would guess that we have at, at least: - A town roleblocker - A town protector - A scum protector or roleblocker With probably one or more of the below: - 2nd town protector of a different type e.g., one-shot, deflects certain actions, a drawback, etc - Someone with multiple lives - Self-protectors of varying flavors - Backup role blocker, town and/or scum - Backup protector, town and/or scum I do think so many potential deaths in a Day/Night cycle seems unlikely, but in this game I would consider it in the realm of possibility.

I'd like to add, regarding day vigging: I don't see a need for it Today, at least at the moment. As I've mentioned earlier, a longer game is a town advantage. Yes, having the option of an additional kill is a net benefit but only if we apply it sensibly. I'm fairly confident that we haven't learned a great deal from our SK kill and I don't think the time is right to start offing people. There's always the chance a spectacular claim could change this, but I agree that a reasonable consensus should be reached first.

Day 2
Mar 3, 2010 17:44:52 GMT -5
Post by Dirx on Mar 3, 2010 17:44:52 GMT -5
So... who should I kill? I'm a Day vig, and was a bit gun shy yesterday.... the reason I said I won't be around long is that my kills are announced in public during the Day when I target them. I wasn't planning on claiming or using my power so early, but everyone pushing on me about self preservation caused me to say somethings that revealed a little more than I had hoped to. So, a claim you get... And yes, I am aware this makes me a huge target for scum because it essentially gives town 2 kills a Day, but I'm pretty sure I would have had to claim after my first kill anyway. So... not planning on being around long because I fully expect scum to take me out toNight. I wanted to kill Red yesterday, but he didn't have near enough votes for me to support such an action. And then I was thinking about killing Bill when the votes were piling on him, but I didn't want to tilt my hand, and people would have been scrambling to find a new lynch leader and it would have been a mess. So I didn't kill anyone. Ok, just a few clarifications, please. In the first post, you say you weren't planning on claiming or using your power so early. But in the very next post, you talk about how you contemplated killing a couple players. There's a slight discrepancy there. Also (and this is an honest question that concerns gameplay strategy, which is something you and I tend to disagree on ): I've heard that compulsory vigs (and voluntary vigs that never decide not to kill) tend to be a bit of a liability to town, mainly because it's often hard to get a good bead on scummy players early in the game, and thus usually hit town. I've heard it advocated that vigs should avoid killing during Night 1 unless they've got a darn good reason. So, why were you thinking about killing during Day 1? Were you that sure about the scumminess of the players?

Day 2
Mar 3, 2010 18:08:20 GMT -5
Post by MentalGuy on Mar 3, 2010 18:08:20 GMT -5
I have debated whether I should do what I am about to do. Normally I would only claim to get out of a lynch or as part of a mass claim. That said, I do feel there are other times when it would be beneficial to claim, such as when you have information you do not want to die with (like I did in Princess Bride). I have run into a rather unusual situation in this game. I have received some heat on me this game (which is my fault). If I had not, I might have stayed quiet and hoped the scum would waste a Night Kill on me, but I don't really think that is going to happen at this point.
I have a role with Night Actions. I hesitate to say "power role" because I have no freaking clue what my Night actions do. I am fairly confident that I can protect myself a couple of times, but I don't really know what the other stuff will do.
Below is my role PM:
Last Night I used the all-purpose bait on peekercpa. I did not receive any information as to what happened and I have confirmed with pede that I should not have received any. So really, I want to hear from players with more experience and more creative minds than my own what this stuff might do. I would hate to accidentally harm Town by using any of these incorrectly. I realize that by calling for ideas, I am letting the scum have input. I will not say what action I plan to use (or if I will even use an action) before I actually use it.
As to the stuff that has gone on toDay, I do find both paul and Red a bit suspicious, but I would like a chance to reread both the Night and toDay before I make a vote. On a metagame level, Shaggy's post kind of struck me as the way I had seen him play as scum before, but I would really like to go back and look at the relevant game and even a game where he played Town before I go to far with that.

Post by special on Mar 3, 2010 18:39:39 GMT -5
All-purpose Bait is an item from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Portions of this bait can be bought from Beedle or Rats. Each unit of bait has three uses. After these three uses more can be bought; however, Link can only buy as many units of bait as his Bait Bag can hold.
This handy type of bait, stored in the Bait Bag, can be given to certain animals in exchange for aid in Link's quest. One of the more important uses is filling Link's Sea Chart; if Link uses the bait near a Fishman, the Fishman will fill in Link's Sea Chart for that section if it's not already filled and tell Link any interesting facts about the area. If Link has already filled that section of his Sea Chart, Fishman will provide the helpful info again and will offer to play a mini-game with Link which involves shooting arrows at Fishman; this can only be played, however, if Link has the Hero's Bow.
In addition, the bait can be used near rat holes to coerce rats to come out of their holes and sell Link something. The rat will sell Link either a Red Potion, Blue Potion, Green Potion, Bombs or more All-purpose Bait.
The bait can also be used to make pigs dig where the bait is thrown. The pigs can dig up Rupees, among many other items. Link the Pig can dig in spots where the ground is dark; this usually contains something better than a normal spot, and may even contain a Piece of Heart.
Lastly, the bait can be used to distract enemies such as Miniblins and Puppet Ganon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Cane of Pacci is an item from The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. It is obtained in the Cave of Flames. This yellow cane fires magical energy that has various purposes.
Its main purpose is flipping over large objects, such as pots that are secretly Minish Portals, as well as some enemies. If magical energy is fired towards a hole in the floor, energy will build up for a few seconds; if Link jumps into an energized hole, he is given a boost and will be able to reach high targets and ledges. In the Cave of Flames, it can also be used to flip overturned mining carts, so as to once again make them mobile by putting them back on the tracks.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Golden Bee is an item from BS Zelda no Densetsu Kodai no Sekiban. Both Mascots start the game with one bottle containing a Golden Bee in their possession. The sparkling bee attacks and destroys enemies, but unlike normal Bees, it will not attack Mascot. The bee leaves Mascot upon finding the Sword, presumably because Mascot is then able to defend himself or herself at this point.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Magnetic Gloves are a recurring item in the Legend of Zelda series. These gloves can be used to attract or repel magnetized objects. If the affected object is stuck in the ground, Link will attract or repel himself accordingly. Opposite polarities will attract each other, and equal polarities will repel each other.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
P Bags are items from Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. P Bags may be found in set places through the game or dropped by enemies. The ones found in set places do not respawn once Link collects them. Enemies have a chance to drop a P Bag instead of a Magic Vial.
P Bags may be worth between 50 and 500 experience points (EXP). Randomly located P Bags may be worth 50, 100, 200 or 500 EXP. Enemy-dropped P-bags are always worth 50 or 200 EXP, depending on the strength of the monster. With the exception of blue Moas, all enemies worth 20 EXP or less drop 50 EXP P Bags, and all enemies worth 30 EXP or more drop 200 EXP P Bags.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Yoshi Doll is a quest item from The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. It is a green dinosaur doll that Link can win by playing the Trendy Game in Mabe Village. It is the first part of the quest for the Magnifying Lens, and it can be given to Papahl's Wife in the northernmost house in the village in exchange for a Ribbon.
Still a bit questioning on paul, so I'll keep the lower-point vote for now. He never did answer the question on when we get the death reveal on his daykill, and I'd like to know the answer to that.
