Ok, I've finally waded through the thread (Day One was more of a scan-through, while I really concentrated on Day Two), and find myself in an uncomfortable position.
We're coming up to the voting deadline, and as it stands now we've got MHaye with four votes and both hockeymonkey and FCoD with three each. Unfortunatly, it's our pair of three-vote-getters that I've been going back and forth between.
MHaye isn't really pinging my scumdar that much (although I'm getting tired of hearing Professor John Frink's voice in my head every time I read his username), so it looks like I'm going to be forcing a tie at the top -- vote hockeymonkey.
Anyone happen to know if we're waiting on any other voters?

It looks like we are waiting on 5 other voters Hal. I just looked and there are (with your vote) only 17 votes out there and we have 22 people in this game. Who hasn't voted? BTW I don't think I said it before, but welcome aboard Hal.

I'm still reading the thread. Have about half way to go.

I haven't voted - I am not honestly sure there are any posters who really strike me as having a good enough case to vote against right now, as I'm basing my analysis on other people's posts. If I could find a strong scum tell in anyone's I'd be a lot happier.
At the moment, I'm rather tied between NAF and FCOD as voting targets. I just can't find enough against mhaye to be happy voting for him.
Pleonast, your case is pretty difficult to defend against without Cookies info, but I will say that Autolycus is playing the same way he did in mafia II where everyone thought he was a skilled mafia and he was actually a clueless townie. This time hopefully there won't be any rules confusion and he'll post more content, but I can see why someone would vote for him early on based on the post style alone.

I know we are down to just an hour or two to go before the lynch deadline, now... ...so if I am the one to go, could ya'll just set me adrift on a raft with a little water, preferably within sight of a nice tropical island? ;D No? OK, then I'll walk the plank or be strung from the yardarm with dignity then.

Oh, and welcome aboard Hal! Heh...thanks. Sorry we couldn't be meeting under nicer circumstances. Hal, is there a reason you find me more suspicious or are you just casting a vote for one of the leading bandwagons? Could you lay out your case against me please? I'm more curious than anything else as to why you cast your vote for me. Ok, here's how I usually work these thing (or, at least how I've been doing it in M3): I keep my "mafia notes" Notepad document open while I'm reading, and when something someone says jumps out at me, I C&P it into the Notepad, along with the link, in case I have to refer back to it downthread. It works out very well when building a case against someone, or trying to determine someone's townliness. However, it's only really effective because there is only so much data to go through at one time. Coming aboard here was a much different story. I set up my "Hispaniola notes" Notepad document, and started weeding through Day One. After a couple of pages, I realized that I would never finish this out in time if I kept careful notes, so I just scanned the rest of the thread. I started my doc over when I went into the Day Two thread. However, I only got two pages in when I realized I had information overload. My system works for me because I can ditch older info after awhile -- once I post about someone's comment, I don't need that bit on file anymore. But when I'm coming in to a 13-page thread, it just wasn't working. So I simplified things. Here is a direct C&P of the first few lines of my document: FCoD - 1234567 hockeymonkey - 1234567 auntbeast - 12345 NAF1138 - 12345 tirial - 1234 The numbers represent every time I read something that seemed off to me. Didn't have to be anything major (although if there was something major, I'd have given it double-weight). Just things that made me think "Hmm...maybe a scum tell?". So no, I'm sorry, but I can't lay out a point-by-point case this time around. However, as my notes show, it's not just bandwagoning. If I'm wrong about you, then I certainly hope others who have been paying attention from the beginning can step in and save you.

Just to say - our current situation is most unfortunate. Letting this vote go to random chance seems like something we'd be better of avoiding.
But I'm not changing my vote, because I'm more confident about FCoD than about mhaye and I don't get the hockeymonkey thing at all.

How's about instead of a point-by-point case, you give us, I don't know, one point? Because I can't help feeling like you managed to create a long-ish post explaining your note-taking system, and you could easily have used that time to give some kind of reason, any kind of reason, for your vote. Your list of numbers, I'm sorry to say, does not actually demonstrate anything at all.

We got three scurvy scalliwags all speedin' t'ward the Grim Reaper, so who wins the race eh? Goes without sayin' that we dont want to kill the innocent party. Meself, I'm not sure which one if any are scum, so I'm gonna force the dreaded 3-way-tie! That should garner some discussion, savvy?

If you don't like the top candidates, vote for someone else!
Worst-case scenario - we lose 4 crew by tomorrow morning (lynch, Pirates, Dick D., and an activated Ben G.). Do something before you get killed! (this goes for anyone else who hasn't voted).

Autolycus - I find myself concerned that you'd vote just to force a three way tie and not because you particularly suspect any of the three.
I'll be honest and say I am beginning to wonder about you. Combined with you using the same posting style that got you killed last time this just doesn't seem right. I'm not voting for you - I'm still not convinced you're not a really clueless player but still
FOS Autolychus (If I get the color wrong let me know)
And since you've done that it actually makes me less inclined to vote for any of the three - its just beginning to look like crew v crew to me. Which I suppose leaves me with NAF as my leading candidate.

Post by Merestil Haye on Jun 1, 2007 14:57:26 GMT -5
I've read through most of the Day 2 thread, but time is running short. One thing that occurred to me is that it's possible Fluiddruid was killed because she went after an inexperienced player who had drawn Dick Deadeye. If either lady was a regular pirate, she'd be advised against hitting FD because of Fds attacks on her. However, DD does not have that support group. Attacking FD to get her off their back is a possible move that might appeal to an inexperienced player. Although this would suggest Capybara more than Cowgirl, Cowgirl's comment in post 56 failed to mention DD at all. That made my suspicion meter tick a bit. Not substantive yet, just a pointer. FlyingCowOfDoom : I'm beginning to think that my suspicion for him, which started back in the Google ship with this piece of waffle : I think it's pretty obvious that we should kill panamajack. Let's break it down, shall we? Panama: famous for the Panama Canal. A canal: full of water. Water: where pirates live. Jack: the same name as Jack Sparrow. Jack Sparrow: pirate! QED. and began to develop with his posts in Day 2, were firmed up by the analyses of NAF1138 and Storyteller0910. I'd be a little uneasy about this if it was one of them, but they both (independently, it seems to me) have arrived at the conclusion that FCODs behaviour here is similar to that of his M2 behaviour. So far the only real suspicion I have against Hockeymonkey is that she tends to hop from vote to vote, rarely picking someone who has not already had suspicion thrown on them that day. I think her vote for Zuma was original. I suspect that joining my bandwagon was partly motivated by self-preservation. It's not (imo) enough to hang someone. I note it as a marker for future Days, but I'm not voting HM. Since I wrote this, Pleonast has put me ahead in the lynching stakes. I don't feel there is enough against Hockeymonkey to create a tie situation. FCOD, however, with his irresponsible attitude, continual OMGUS reactions, and playing in a very similar way to games in which he was previously Mafia, still remains a suspect in my eyes. I know from experience that my playing style changed a lot in my second game (I was mafia first game and Town the second). I'd expect some change if he were town. As I think he's more likely to be scum, Vote FlyingCowOfDoom

Vote NAF1138
And yes NAF it is largely because of that post you keep saying you want forgotten. "That one damn quote is going to dog me for the whole game isn't it?" Yes, it probably is.
D2 P338 you suggest we need to look at other people, but as every post since has been defence - you haven't posted any leads other people can follow that might help find scum, just defended yourself.
I could critique you for not actively looking for scum, but it depends on how auntbeast has defined "smudges" which seems to be a bit vague.

Autolycus - I find myself concerned that you'd vote just to force a three way tie and not because you particularly suspect any of the three. I dont get the cut of your jib. We need to learn as much info as we can each day. Voting and creating a tie prolongs the day and gives us more chances to learn about the situation. Pirates benefit when days end fast, right? When somebody finally takes the long walk off the short plank, the more posts we have leading up to it, the better off we will be in outing the turncoats. So yeah, my voting has little to do with personal suspicioun, but it's beneficial to the town. Ya need to think outside the box, matey! Yo ho ho, since HockeyMockey was the original vote-leader, I'll tie things up again with him/her and MhayeVote HockeyMonkey

Autolycus: "Voting and creating a tie prolongs the day and gives us more chances to learn about the situation. "
Sorry - I thought a tied vote resulted in a random choice between the victims as in the last game I played. I couldn't find any reference to extra time in the rules clarifications forum. My mistake.
unFOS Autolychus - without a forced random choice I really don't have anything concrete to sustain it.
