Whoops - story, could you fix my coding above? Failed by British spelling. How annoying is that? I've done it before but a piece of advice - if you have a spell checker inside your browser.. set it to American English. That's how I fix it. (Working on my actual reply to all that Day's events <3)

Mornin' everyone. Sorry for being away all weekend again, but between Christmas preparations and possible full-time employment rearing its ugly (but bringing me money!) head, I wasn't able to focus on Mafia. For now, I'm just doing a drive-by on two quick things. First, the honorable Capt. Klutz will take the stand. Fact: Klutz voted for DBI on Day Two and on Day Three before he switched to Pleonast. Fact: His fabled "scum list" has everybody that did NOT vote for Pleonast on it, EXCEPT DBI, something I questioned him about. Me: Klutz's Response: Okay, perfectly plausible. Klutz's New-And-Improved Scum List (now with two more scum!) is: But Cat.v2's point did make me realise that I had oversimplified some things, so I'll order the list and extend it slightly. Top scum suspects: episodeofblonde Cookies Roosh Parzival Tragic Death by Irony zuma 2.0 Hey! Looky there, DBI is back again! But all his previous ideas about DBI were wrong, weren't they? Hmmmmm. At this point, Klutz is very suspicious to me, but I'm going to hold off voting for him just because he's already got 5 votes, and I don't want the scum to be able to jump in and force an early end to the Day (especially if Klutz isn't given the chance to role-claim before he hits majority votes) because if something big happens with his role-claim I don't want a rushed changing of votes that is all over the place. --- Thing #2: drainbead, on Day 2: Now, unless I'm mistaken....she got a lot of heat yesterDay...but she's been laying low toDay. I know, I know, she did mention she'd been busier than normal yesterday...but it's something I was thinking about and thought I'd share.

Don't forget there is no insta-lynch in the case of majority voting. The Guv'nor has 6 hours to decide whether to lynch or extend for a further 18 hours to allow for role claims.

Actually Santo Rugger, that was a perfectly valid answer. I was asking because I wasn't sure how it stood up as a method of analysis for finding scum and you had also used it on kassia. Its always good to get a second opinion, and it helps that your pretty much town confirmed, so the answer coming back is more likely to be honest than not.

Things at work are a little better, at least for now. Thursday might get wonky, though.
Since my idea about kassia was apparently wrong, thanks to the Whizzinator, I'm trying to do a thorough re-read of the game and see if anything jumps out at me. I had kassia and sinjin, along with Roosh, as my leading candidates for scum. Now at least sinjin and kassia are cleared, provided we haven't fallen victim to the world's riskiest scum gambit (that would also have to involve the ostensibly cleared Governor Rugger), I'm pretty much starting over from square one. I'm going to pay close attention to CK and EoB, but CIAS2 is weirding me out as well. It seemed like he's wanting to dictate where the conversation goes, and that bothers me at this point in the game, when we're starting to get down in the numbers. Of course, I WIFOM this by thinking that every other vocal player has been town.
Wouldn't it be funny if this was a bastard mod game with no rogue replicants at all?

Apologies. My mom has been having land-line issues with Verizon, so dialup was not an option for me as I thought it would be this weekend. Add to that the 4 hour commute I just had into the office [oog]one of us had to be late in order to return the pickup I rented to haul firewood, and then endure public transportation from Scotts Valley to Sunnyvale, and I let kassia get to work on-time[/oog], and you have me here, about to start catching up at post #78...

I'm going to be having a busy next few days and probably won't be able to devote a lot of time to the game, so my thoughts so far are going to be fairy brief.
Before I got distracted by what happened this morning and the blue urinators, I was taking a look at individual voting patterns (which I had detailed last Night and meant to expand on Today.) I was looking for people who might have been switching their votes around instead of attaching to one player. In my opinion there will be scum in both groups, but probably more in the first since they're more comfortable going after any townie.
Re-examining them, I don't see much of a reliable pattern so far. Often the targets of those who switched were lynched, and in other cases the player subbed, so it's hard to say anything about consistent patterns. I also think I'd need to look at the players entire voting and suspicion history, not just where they ended up at the end of the Day.
I think we need a few more Days for any pattern to become clear. Someone (atarus, I think) made a post comparing three players either last Night or Today in which he focused on the switching around of suspicion and votes which looks sort of scummy. I think that sort of thing is what I was looking for, so maybe it's better for now to continue examining one or two people in detail for voting.

Two notes: 1. Tragic! I saw you post! You need to post some content, dammit! I feel like you've just been around floating ( You, Diggit, and to a VERY small extent Kat2.0-she's posted content at least), but I never get to see your discussions. I've kinda made my points and all, but again, yours is not there.... I know you're in england and all... but sheesh.... --I don't think we need to go after lurkers just yet, but in the case of scum being in layers, I'm def. suspicious of this group of people as well for containing scum, as it's pretty much my "bottom layer". 2. I also agree w/ Parzival on the slight annoyance of the replacement players. Whenever I see a substitution it kinda irks me, cuz right now, I can't quite link up the Day 1 information to the rest of the data charts as well (since people have switched personalities obv. since then... one more reason i disliked Klutz's use heavily of the Day 1 data earlier). --I can't remember who it was, but someone stated they would assume the substitutes were Town for meta-game reasons. For me, that strikes me as the exact opposite paranoia. I always feel uneasy about the subs, BECAUSE i naturally tend to focus less on them due to their "newer-ness" -they always appear to have less data points, and I always WIFOM about it.... But yeah, just because you're a sub doesn't mean you get a free townie pass from me. just my 2 cents as always, since i can't remember who stated that they thought some sub was townie for meta-game reasons. -And fair enough Parzy, if you don't' think it's nanobots, i'll end my Q's on the matter.

::Offers Captain Klutz a shovel:: Keep going, you are doing a great job of digging yourself a hole. So from 4 scum, 1 scum investigator on Day 1 to accusing kassia of being a scum investigator on Day 4. to "I've got five scum all lined up" to "Well actually, I've got 7 scum possibilities" With little or no explanation and for all the other stuff currently mentioned, as well as double mentions on the Firefly scum investigator which makes me very nervous, not to mention your scum list reasonings have been shredded but you are still continuing with them. This has to be done. vote Captain Klutz(colour removed) I had a number of scum possibilities. When I thought I had found 5 scum the others were pushed into the background. When I realised that I had oversimplified things a bit, I decided that I should include the others. As for the "scum investigator" on Day 1, I think it's time for a role claim, to explain why I made such an wild guess.

I am the Code Runner
(Role PM, severely edited and paraphrased):
I can examine devices and determine how they have been used.
I am aware that Kat is a hacker named the Neuromancer. I can't use her equipment but if I can get the code key then, when she dies, I will get whatever investigation results she had.
I get the code key if the Neuromancer targets me with any of her abilities.
I am on the Colony's side. I win when all bad guy replicants rust in peace, regardless of the state of my own metabolic functions.
So I am an "info only" backup for the Neuromancer. I don't get to make any investigations myself, but I may get her investigations when she dies (if I can attract her attention).
I asked some questions:
"Are any other players (in particular, scum) aware of The Neuromancer's existence?" The answer was basically "no comment"
"When I die, what is revealed about my role? In particular, will The Neuromancer be mentioned, or that I was trying to get their attention? " The answer was that it depends on whether the neuromancer is still alive, and whether I had been targeted. No further answer than that.
I sent off some notes on my thoughts on how to play this role. Here is the first one:
So Kat is the Neuromancer. This looks to be a Watcher/Tracker type role (probably not a Cop, as that fits more naturally with the Blade Runner role).
The wording suggests that the Neuromancer has several abilities. Probably means that she has a choice of various types of hacks, but still only one per Night.
There are 2 benefits to my role:
1. If I have been targeted then I get the results of the investigations if the Neuromancer dies
2. Regardless, I can use my special knowledge of the Neuromancer to confirm myself as town
As for being targeted, it's a bit of a 2 edged sword: it's insurance against the Neuromancer dying unclaimed, but if the Neuromancer does claim then I have taken up one of the investigations. Although it is still worthwhile: if the Neuromancer is nightkilled then I still get the result of her investigation that Night.
The obvious way to attract her attention is to mention "neuromancer". But that's a bit too obvious - scum could be aware of the existence of the Neuromancer, so I will just be giving myself away. Scratch that.
I also need to be careful that my death will not reveal the Neuromancer's identity: if it is known that I was trying to attract the Neuromancer's attention then anyone I mention is a potential target. For example, if I started Day 1 with an initial vote for Kat for Governor, then that looks like an attempt to get Kat's attention. Hmmm, so I need to be very careful with my Governor vote toDay. Or indeed, any votes toDay.
Overall, it looks to be too dangerous to deliberately connect myself with Kat: it would be great to have insurance against the Neuromancer dying unclaimed, but it would be really lousy for my death to immediately lead to the Neuromancer's death.
The other benefit of my role is that I can confirm myself as town: if I can show that I had special knowledge of the Neuromancer role, then that provides strong evidence that I am who I say I am.
What I'm thinking is for one of my Day 1 posts to have a hidden message about the Neuromancer. This message, while hidden, would be unmistakable when pointed out.
Now all I need to do is come up with a suitably subtle way of hiding this message. Hmmmmm
And then, at the end of Day 1:
Well, I thought of a way to get Kat's attention. Although it got me a bit more attention than I anticipated.
When I realised that the "New Canaan Hacker" mentioned in the introduction was Kat's role, that gave me an idea. So I made some comments on the introduction and suggested that the hacker could be a scum investigator (post 247). This was was a totally unfounded speculation for which I was (rightly) called out. But suggesting that Kat is a scum investigator is something that should get her attention. I'll just have to wait and see whether she deems it worthy of an investigation.
However, after posting the message it occurred to me that mentioning a scum investigator, with no real justification, could be seen as a "subtle" hint by someone with that role, to say to the scum that I'm actually on their side. On the plus side, it means scum will leave me alone for a while. But it may make me a more likely target for a vig. Still, I didn't actually get any votes or FOS's for it, so maybe I'm just being overly paranoid. Maybe. I hope.
On another note, I managed to post my hidden message. It's in post 245 and the message is simply the role and player name. It's probably not too hard to find once youknow it's there, but I'll be utterly amazed (and impressed) if anyone else notices it.
I can't do much more with my role for now, so I'm basically just vanilla until Kat dies or claims. If I get a PM toNight, I'll know I've played either well or badly, according to whether the message says "The code key is..." or "The password to the spoiler boards is..."
(I have made some slight edits to avoid quoting bits of the role PM. For example, the key is not actually called the "code key").
And now the hidden message. This was in Day 1.245 Here it is, sans quotes:
I will extract a bit of it and highlight the initial letters in a particular passage:
Then again, perhaps this may help in identifying players who make some extra posts just so they are not entirely underthe radar. Or maybe are not ccontributing enough reasoned knowledge and thoughts about the game.
Note that it says "neuromancer kat". And note the typo that helps make it work ("underthe" instead of "under the").
So I definitely knew about the Neuromancer on Day 1. The only way for a player to have knowledge of another town role on Day 1 is to have it supplied in their role PM, and it makes no sense to give it to scum. So yes, I am the Code Runner, a partial backup to the Neuromancer.
And finally, I note that this game has seen a number of players post a hidden message. But I did it first!

Ok, Part of me wants to believe you, part of me still thinks your scum. Just to add further WIFOM to the mix, this is Kat's role as Neuromancer from storyteller. Kat had a menu of six different abilities; she was permitted to use one per Night, but could use each only once per game
1. one of them was the power to choose a target and a secondary target, and then any Night action applied to the first target would be redirected onto the second 2. She had a role identification power 3. A tracking power, 4. A watching power, 5. The ability to role block one player, 6. The ability to black out the entire town.
She was also permitted to send one five-word PM per Day to another player. Before anyone starts wondering, I asked while in the subs thread and kept a copy. Yes, I have checked with storyteller and he said it could be posted. I'm going to go and think about this.

But I don't wanna go "gee, it's 1 2 and 3 and I'll let you know when I have time to write it all up!" because that's not fair to anyone. Yes, I'm here. Yes, I'm reading and soakin things in. There have been some pretty powerful town roles exposed in this game. It will take a lot of convincing to get me to swallow Klutz's claim and to rule out the possibility that the scum have/had a power that could've picked up on a Kat v1 day action or to sniff out her title in some way by Day.

So yes, I am the Code Runner, a partial backup to the Neuromancer. The only thing I can say from your post is that you knew Kat was the Neuromancer on Day 1. That's it. Not that you are town or scum, just that you knew her identity. The possibilities are as follows: Pro-town: You are who you say you are. Scum: You had a Night Zero action to role reveal one person. The problems: 1. Kat would have to target you to allow her to pass on her info. But it is not like she was leaving a lot of info behind, which raises the question of why the backup. 2. Kat's death on Night 1 is odd. At first glance it looks like it should be a Vigilante kill, but is there any reason why it could not be a scum extra kill. The question is, would Pleonast as a Vigilante have killed someone on Night 1. The odd thing is you say that to make contact she would have to investigate you, but it would have made more sense for one of her daytime PM's to be used instead. WIFOM - too much WIFOM. I think I will judge you on your play instead of your roleclaim.

I'd just like to apologize to everyone again. Had a job interview today and so yesterday I was pretty much nothing but a bundle of nerves that couldn't handle deep analysis of Mafia.
Anyway.
Huh.
Klutz's role-claim is...odd. The hidden message is definitely a point in favor of supporting his role-claim. He could be a scum with an investigative role that managed to nail Kat on Day 1, but I feel like if the scum had any sort of investigative role, we would have seen a few Night deaths about roles that surprised us, not just Kat dying on Night One. NAF on Night Three wouldn't have required an investigation, and the other Night deaths were all vanilla.
I'm willing to give Klutz the benefit of the doubt on his role-claim. He still falls squarely in the middle of my suspicion list, but as I said, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and put my vote elsewhere toDay.
I looked back through episodeofblonde's posts, and I distinctly got the impression she has been playing the "semi-helpful townie" role. She referenced past games a few times (possibly to make herself seem more knowledgeable and helpful) and gave out some general advice.
A few posts that stood out to me:
Post 1.275
I don't know why, but this post struck me as odd. Just a feeling that is "off" with this post, because none of episodeofblonde's other posts really have this style. The wording seems overly grandiose, but it could just be me.
Post 1.460
This, to me, seems like a very subtle smudge against anybody that comes out with a power role. A very subtle way of putting doubt in people's heads when anybody claims something that could be helpful to the town.
Posts 3.47 and 4.75
(underlining mine)
After the first post, she later goes on to vote zeriel (later retracts and then puts her vote out to Roosh).
For both zeriel and Klutz, she favors using "a gut feeling" as her main reason for voting initially. She later adds other reasons when asked, but initially she cites her gut.
Post 5.54
I just find it odd that she says that Klutz had been pinging her all game at this point, when her vote on Day Four "based on her gut" is the first time she mentions Klutz at all in any of her posts.
----
I have a dilemma right now. I want to vote for episodeofblonde, but she has stated she'll be away until the 23rd or so, which means she probably won't be back until after the Day ends, and I'd hate to lynch her without a role-claim.
This requires me to fall back on my secondary suspicions, and that happens to be drainbead and DBI. The fact that DBI is voting for drainbead at the moment just makes my brain hurt. I still stand by that one of DBI and Cookies is definitely scum, but I want to take a closer look at Cookies' posts and I haven't done that yet. I'll probably do that later tonight. I might change my vote to one of them if something really jumps out at me.
Which leaves me with drainbead. I think she's tactfully letting the heat drop off of her after a Day where she was the focus of a lot of attention. Her "should I role-claim now guys? I have it all written up!" screams bad things to me. She's been scum twice on this board, and was the first scum noticed both times, so if she's scum again, she's most likely learned how to fade back and let the attention that was on her go somewhere else.
Vote drainbead

Ok, sorry I haven't been posting much. It took me a bit longer than I thought to find a condo. I will be traveling all day tomorrow and will only have time to possibly check in to catch up while waiting for flights. I will probably miss the end of the day on the 20th too.
This game just keeps getting weirder and weirder.
I'm happy with my vote on episodeofblonde, and will leave it there. diggitcamara is inching up though. He really doesn't know how many players we started with and about how many are alive now? Very strange. And didn't we go thru the "I wonder how many replicants there are?" on Night zero and Day 1. I have to go back and reread all his posts to come to any conclusions though.

I will switch my vote to drainbead if the Klutz wagon is indeed disbanding, but I will be keeping him very much under my thumb if that ends up being the case.
