Finally, are there any links you can provide to other "simple" games for quick analysis? If you go and look at mafiascum.net, this set up is used in the newbie games.

Before I get to voting, I'm gonna get to thinking.
Let's see. We have two scum, one of which might be a roleblocker. We have seven town, with one or two power roles.
Good news: no godfather. No other confusing roles either. If the investigator says someone's town, they're town. Assuming the investigator is really the investigator, of course.
I suppose people with some experience can tell us what the consequences will be with these various permutations. Like, how does the game change if we have a doctor but no investigator or vice versa?

From what I see, the only consequences of having only a DOC, or only a COP, is the SCUM don't get a roleblocker. I think the Roleblocker and Cop and Doc is the best case scenario. If the Roleblocker guesses right, then we still have either the DOC or COP. Where as, the other 2 options, the SCUM can't roleblock, but we only have 1 power role.

Ah, yes. I hadn't really paid attention to that. It's either they have no power role and we have one or they have one and we have two. That does make a difference, doesn't it?

Yeah. I'm kinda wondering what power roles we've got. But I think that would be something we should wait for toMorrow to figure out from the Night actions. The only reason to roleclaim toDay would be for the Cop, if we have a Doc who can protect him/her.
Any cops want to take that chance?

The only reason to roleclaim toDay would be for the Cop, if we have a Doc who can protect him/her. Any cops want to take that chance? I'd say the only reason a COP/DOC have to claim would be when we are close to Dayend and they are risking a lynch. Other then that - I really don't think they should run the risk. I'd like to point out that asking a lot about roles like this has been called "fishing". It has been looked at as a scum-tell under the assumption that: "Scum will want to know about Towns Power Role". I really don't think it is a scum-tell - but just thought I'd mentions it... before I did it myself ;D A scum roleblocker can be an extremely powerful role, if the mod counts the Night actions then way I seem to remember MiteyMouse does. If we have a doc and (s)he selfprotects all the way and don't get lynched, we stand a pretty good chance for the doc to make it to endgame. Unless the scum has a blocker. Then the scum can block and kill the DOC.

Actually, I was wanting to do what I do for threads I'm participating in on the SDMB or snopes: have the system send me an email whenever someone says something. The email always links to the last post I haven't read. Anyways, it's just a nice feature that I wish this board had. It's more of an expediency thing: my email comes in an RSS feed.

It's too risky. The people above me were talking like they wanted to figure out which type of game we got, and I was afraid someone might come in and roleclaim to try and help them out.

Does anyone have some early game theories as to how we can possibly choose someone to lynch on Day One?

You did come off like you were fishing. You specifically asked the COP to claim, so that the DOC could protect. 1 of 3 possibilites 1. No Cop 2. Cop, but no Doc, Cop dies night one (Scum would know there is no DOC because there is no Roleblocker) 3. COP is protected by DOC, Roleblocker blocks COP, Other Town dies at night. Vote Bit T

Does anyone have some early game theories as to how we can possibly choose someone to lynch on Day One? In a lot of games I've played Day 1 is spend talking about lynching the lurkers (we often discuss what a lurker is and how to identify them), some talk about random voting (going to random.org and simply random the list of players and get a lynch candidate for Day 1) and in the end we always seems to vote based on gut/ a slip/ a mistake. I'm fine with lynching a lurker on Day 1. I think lurker is anti-Town and if I can't lynch scum, I'd rather lynch anti-Town players. I don't like random voting. I don't really see the point. A random vote could easily fall on a vocal, pro-town player with a power role. Why run that risk? Sometime we spend Day 1 trying to secondguess the mod regarding color/numbers. But the way this game is designed I don't think there would be must to talk about. We could also talk about who is completely new to mafia and who has played before - but that's more because it is nice to know who you're playing with than because it benefits the game.

That's a good point Total Lost Who here is playing their first Mafia Game? It's my 3rd, but my first one not on Facebook. unvote BigT
I realized that if it's your first game, it's more likely an honest question, than a SCUM tell.

I realize that Facebook players play a really aggressive game, but just because someone speculated about power roles seems like a REALLY weak reason to vote for someone. I mean, with exactly three posts in the entire game, what else were we going to talk about? And he wasn't requesting anybody claim. In fact he was advising against it.

Getting to know each other seems like a nice idea.
I already said this is my first game. I watch them on GB and SDMB, and have refused a few offers to sub in before because they just seem so damn involved. Hopefully a mini game won't steal my life away like the regular games seem to do to players. (And how regular players do multiple games at once I can't imagine.)
I'm also going to see for once what it's like to keep up with a game without skimming. As a watcher, of course, you don't have to pay attention to every single back-and-forth. And when you think about it, all mafia games are 90% noise to sift through for the kernels of truth.

I agree that it is early to be casting votes, but on Day 1, there is little to go on. And the way I read it, it looked like Big T was looking for the COP to claim, so that they could be protected. And, as I said later, I took it back because I don't know how experienced players in this game are. I've only played larger games, with very experienced players, and the only person I know in this game is Total Lost.

Well if we're getting to know each other. I'm experienced, I forget how many games I've played, but I'm in several here, and was in many more offboard for, well everyone here.
I have become known for building the crazy, intricate, confusing, disorienting, and non-standard game, but that doesn't come into play here.

This is my third game. My first two, I was subbed in for other players. First game was the Split on SDMB, and I was a town cop who got killed the second night! Second game was the Not-so-simpletown on SDMB, was cabal who got lynched. The current craziness over on the SDMB has me wanting to try something much simpler, and this "mini-game" seems like a nice start. I got no votes now. For the record, I'm somewhat reluctant to vote for Big T based on fishing. Maybe he was, but it could be simple inquisitiveness from a new player, or just a general attempt to get convo started. In the same vein, I'm generally against lynching lurkers this early in the game, just because we're much more likely to kill a townie than a scum. Based on other mafia discussions I've seen, I think I may be in the minority in this view, but there ya have it.

Um, "thank goodness" was in response to it not being a complicated game. You got in there while I was posting, Ichni.
By the way, miss 12345, what part of the world are you in, if you don't mind my asking? I'm curious who here is in North America, who the UK, etc. It might help us not post while others are sound asleep.
I'm in Seattle, WA, USA.

I agree that lynching lurkers can be bad for town, especially this early. Especially with all the different time zones people are in. (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada) I'd be more tempted on day 2, to lynch somebody who didn't participate in day 1, cause then enough time has gone by.

Hey folks - a dozen or so games on various boards. Thoughts on the setup 1 Mafia Goon, 1 Mafia Roleblocker, 1 Sane Cop, 1 Sane Doctor, 5 Townies 2 Mafia Goons, 1 Sane Cop, 6 Townies 2 Mafia Goons, 1 Sane Doctor, 6 Townies If the scum have a roleblocker then they know that there is a doc and cop out there, and a 2 in 7 chance of taking out the cop/doc (or blocking) on Night1; otherwise its a 1 in 7 for a kill. It's pretty much par for the course to mislynch on day 1, and the scum will probably succeed in a night kill, so day 2 will put us at 2 v 5, another mislynch and its quite possibly 2v3 on day 3 and lylo. Given that possible rate of attrition, we can't afford to carry lurkers. So if you are a roleblocker, will you please make yourself known? ;D
