Perhaps you should sub Paul out? He appears to be AWOL on every board...he isn't even checking in on the game he's modding...

ISTR that he was unexpectedly sent out to sea during the SSB game...perhaps in the Navy, or some other sea-faring organization (pirate?). Maybe he just got called away unexpectedly again. Ah, here's the post I was thinking of: Paul says he's at sea--FCOD

Ok, so we've got:
1. Inner Stickler 2. Metallic Squink 3. Sister Coyote 4. FCoD 5. MHaye 6. BillMC 7. Jaade 8. Mr. Special Ed 9. texcat
I will begin with a Vote: Special Ed simply because he's played WAYYYY too many games of Mafia. Seriously dude, get a life!

It's pretty common on Day One to throw out nonsense votes. Other common strategies are random votes and voting for the person who posts the least (lurker).
Personally, I just want to see Ed on the chopping block and start spamming us with random wiki articles.

First Day votes are tough.
There seem to be two basic voting philosophies; Votes are Cheap and Votes are Meaningful.
A person subscribing to Votes are Cheap (like, iirc, FCoD) will vote at the slightest provocation on Day 1. Sometimes they overdo it and vote for no reason. Reasonless (or Random) votes are bad spelled W - R - O - N - G. If you let one pass, you open the gates fro the Mafia to place reasonless votes. Allowing Mafia to place reasonless votes means that, later in the game, you have no chance of catching them.
While I'm pontificating, let me check the player list.
Ok, this is not directed particularly at Metallic Squink or Texcat; everyone else has played in at least one other game.
Grudges are Bad, peoplle. If you set out to lynch someone because of what that someone was or did to you in the last game, you will hurt your side and ultimately lose. So don't hold grudges. If you're going to kill someone for acting like a Mafiate, make sure your reasons are grounded in this game.
Metallic Squink and Texcat; welcome to the game and hold that little homily in mind for next game.

First Day votes are tough. Seconded! Which means, boys and girls, that you should be sure to give a reason when you vote even if you know (or think) that reason is crap. If you want to vote FCoD because he smells funny, well, that's a reason at least. Not a great reason, but something. Unless you subscribe to Votes are Cheap, of course. Limit meta-gaming, in other words, although I don't think meta-gaming can ever be completely eliminated because we become more aware of each other's playstyle as we play more games with folks. Humans like patterns, we can't help it. I agree that grudges are Bad for Town, though.

The First Day is the first of three collaborations between David Sylvian and Robert Fripp. It was released in July 1993 and was something of a departure from David Sylvian’s usual work. It’s a combination of Sylvian’s deep, thoughtful lyrics with funk, techno and hard hitting progressive rock music.

The Grudge is the 2004 American remake of the Japanese film Ju-on: The Grudge. The film is the first installment in the American horror film series The Grudge. The film was released in North America on October 22, 2004 by Columbia Pictures,[2] and is directed by Takashi Shimizu (director of the original series)[3] while Stephen Susco scripted the remake. In the same tradition as the original series, the plot of the film is told through a non-linear sequence of events and includes several intersecting subplots.

OK, I'll stop that or I'll really start to get votes.
anyway
Vote: FCOD
Yes, it's basically OMGUS, but it's also suspicious that he'd want to start a bandwagon early.
I mean, it's something, right?

I have played one other Mafia game (which is still going on at the Giraffe Boards - the Not-so-mini-mafia game). Unfortunately for me, I was NK'ed on Night 2 which made me mad because I was having fun! This is my first game on this board. As for a vote on Special Ed, I'm not sure I'm ready to jump on that bandwagon yet but I'm thinking about it because I have no idea who David Sylan and Robert Fripp are and I didn't see the grudge because the trailers were too creepy for me.

As fun as the discussion about Special Ed and wikipedia is, I move we table it until Tonight and bang out an agreement on what constitutes lurking and what should be done about it. That always seems like a topic of great concern on Days 1 and 2.

Metallic Squink and Texcat; welcome to the game and hold that little homily in mind for next game. Thanks for welcome. This looks like it's going to be fun. Sure. I'm generally fine with lynching lurkers unless they are going to be modkilled with a full reveal. --FCOD I agree. I am fine with lynching lurkers -- whether they are not participating at all, or whether they are reading, but not posting much. I think townies should be active and leave the lurking to the scum.

Sure. I'm generally fine with lynching lurkers unless they are going to be modkilled with a full reveal. --FCOD See, and I'm not because I don't know that I've ever seen scum really lurking. I've seen scum being quiet and uncontroversial posters but not what I would consider lurking. And therefore when everyone jumps on lynching a lurker, it seems like they always come up town.

Another problem with lynching a lurker is that you are not likely to have any substantial posting history to review (because of the lurking, duh!) so we might get lucky and lynch a lurking scum but if the person is town, we've both lost someone from Town and don't have any information.
I also think that some players might lurk in plain sight, so to speak. They may be posting but not really adding anything of substance just so they don't look like a lurker.
