You're telling me you don't know anything about your own devices? -I know they're non-lethal. -The Devices (as far as my knowledge provide Clues- what sort of clues... I don't know that). -I don't know what they'll appear as, and I don't know what happens when they detonate (but I do know they will not kill the target). -And I know the creators of the devices are the people in the Spoiler Threads. Would you like my Role PM or would you mind waiting for story? I assume I'll be the easy Lynch for toDay, but I'm trying to help out the best I can here by providing information, because you and others are getting distracted by the Devices. Of course- the easiest play is to say now that I'm the mad bomber that NEEDS the devices to detonate, so damned if you do, damned if you don't. I did what I thought was best for Town, and I don't mind you asking me questions. So when the devices detonate, they provide clues...to what? The person you put them on? If so, why would I turn into a sheep? That's more of a Hal thing...unless Hal has some way to make me non-vanilla? Or are the "clues" supposed to be in relation to who's town and who's not? The Spoiler threads create the devices? As in their appearance, or what they do? Or both? I think the sooner you post your role PM the better, although you've had more than adequate time to tweak it and fake it so I don't suppose a few more hours will hurt. If you do post it, it'll help everyone else figure out what the devices are supposed to do.

They're just generalized clues meant to spread confusion/anarchy/my flavor blah blah blah. The Sheep one I'm just confused by right now- as I never would have made that Hal association without you guys. The spoiler Threads are the ones who create the Devices- pretty much they do everything but the target. And I've already asked Storyteller- I know the devices are made/everything done the night I pick my Target. So your Sheep thing was preset by Night 1. Whatever mine is will be mine and it's from Night 2, and so on. It's not like when they explode they're created at that time. Your clue would have been the same since you were targeted Night 1, any new information/players etc would not have influenced it since that moment.

All - apologies for my ongoing absence - Internet is still an issue for more than quick messages. A vote count, answers to all questions, a full device description, and a pony will all be forthcoming tonight come hell or high water. To answer a question from above - all apparent voting irregularities to date have been the result of moderator error and not game related. I will explicitly draw attention to any evident irregularities that actual result from player powers and/or game mechanics, in order to prevent confusion; unless I do this, assume that anything that looks in error is a function of me being less-than-smart. A pony? woo hooo! Well the scratches that idea about voting manipulation. At least he got it consistently wrong :-) OMG - I understand Meeko!!! That's brilliant pi-e-i-0 becomes 3-2-1-0 I came up with it too.... I know - it was more of a revelation of understanding Meeko :-) I don't think the scum got two extra kills for outing a scum...I feel like that's too powerful, but if everyone else thinks it's plausible...eh. We also aren't taking into account that we may have (or had) a jack-of-all trades that had a one-shot kill, and they took a swing at Suburban. While it's unlikely, we have no idea what gnarycharlie's powers were. He could have had a one-shot...or there may still be a jack living amongst us. I'd hope if there is a pro-town person who can explain everything and they're still alive, they'd come forward so we don't continue this merry-go-round of texcat/Suburban suspicion and put the matter to rest. Plausible - tho unlikely - it would need to be balanced by something on the town side. Fair point about the possibility of a jack. If they exist, and are still alive I agree they should come forward to clear the air on this point. I think you're over thinking the role WAY too much. You're not even trying to consider the devices from a Town perspective. Let me help you out. Would it make you feel better if there were no more Devices anymore? I'm the devicer, and I'm quite Town, and I don't want you to get that distracted by the devices. I'm trying to figure them out them myself a plenty and what they do. If BillMC, will allow it, I'll make a full claim. Happy? Or I can just claim now. I'm just curious if this much'll trigger Bill's Device, or if he actually needs a full role claim for his Device. So you are claiming to be town, and that you have no idea what they do, except they are non-lethal. I need to re-read in light of this claim. As I previously said, I'm not against anyone claiming - if the device goes boom or produces more sheep, then we'll shear that sheep when we come to it.

My Targetting choices: 1. Pollux- I chose you because I got the "helpful/positive" vibe from you on Day 1, you seemed the most helpful and nicest guy at that time. So I figured I'd put the device on you and see what clue I got. And then I saw the device that got put on you. I knew it was non-lethal, but it looked pretty damn lethal to me. So yeah. FAIL. 2. Myself- I wanted to make sure what the devices did, if I was putting ONLY scary devices on people, I didn't want to freak out people and just do that. So I targeted myself, I knew I was Town, so I was a good control, and I figured let's see what'd happen- if maybe I put scary devices on scum, and good devices on Townie, etc. Plus, I started to figure, eh, these devices are like weak protections (this might be a little bit of after the facts justifying it to myself), but maybe the Scum wouldn't go after the people I targeted if they thought that the Devices would be lethal or something like that. So another reason to put it on me, because at least I knew who was the Towniest of the Town at that point- myself. And yeah, it was another scary device thing. And mine has the 2 vials. Which I don't believe is actually lethal, but I DO wonder if it's a clue- is one vial helpful for Town, the other helpful for Scum? Is one a beneficial thing and the other something useless? I'm not sure. But at this point, I figured I was going to keep low about saying anything and try to figure this out on my own. Plus, I was trying to figure out how to Activate my device too. That was a key- I couldn't just activate mine easily, at least not without getting the entire town (and scum's) attention. So yeah. 3. Hal- I picked him, because he was described by you guys as an "Ooh shiny player", I figured if anyone would try to solve the mystery of the Clues and the devices, it'd be Hal. He did such a good job as the Riddler in the original Arkham, that he seemed to be the perfect person to help in this game. -->But then Hal clammed up and really didn't talk or try to do ANYTHING with his device. I know they're non-lethal, but Hal's behavior struck me as someone who really did NOT want to die- either like a Survivor, or a PFK, or a Scum role. Or he could be like a Cop/Doctor and trying to survive- but he's clammed up, and hasn't really been trying to help out the Town further along. Which is why I'm currently the most suspicious of him. Pollux, you were the first to suggest detonating your device, and I was happy about that, but I didn't really want to force you along that path, but I did want to get your clue and see if it'd help me figure things out. And BillMC has also been pretty non-chalant about his device, and doesn't seem to be anti-role claims and all. Again, these are more "Townie" behaviors I'd expect- since we all win together, one more death sucks for the Town, but it's NOT the end all be all. Which is why I claimed today as well, if I die, I die. 4. BillMC- I picked him, because I wanted to keep him alive since he's had a reputation of being a good "thinking" player, and I figured a device might help that along in case scum try to go after "strong" players. 5. Sinjin- this one was kinda a grab bag vote. I got in late last Night, and hadn't really had a good week or time to try to pick a target. I picked Sinjin, because I didn't want to target certain people: TexCat- I don't know if you're the Vig or if you're PFK 100%, and if you die, then I don't get to see the device working/detonating. You were too risky a target to put the device on. Because if you die, then the device is gone. Nanook/Mahaloth- this is another one where I went back and forth. I believed you guys were Town, but then with the Idle thing, I just got lost, and I still think you guys are pretty Town. But  I'm not sure. If I had to pick a target, I woulda picked Nanook prolly. Cookies- She was actually suspicious to me prior to her claiming. I was wondering for a while maybe the Kerosene person was a Mad Bomber and I might be against them? ( Hal was a test also of what'd happen if I targeted a Kerosene player- I don't know if that'd effect the Clue or whatnot, but it was worth a shot). I avoided Cookies once she claimed Doc though, because again- she seemed a risky person to put these devices on in terms of her surviving- If she WAS right about her power, it's likely she'd be NK'ed early on, or if she used her power, then wasted device. And it'd look REALLY scummy too if you didn't know these devices were lethal- plus what If I put the device on her, and then she chooses her end is near, and chooses to detonate that night because of me? I'd feel AWFUL about that. So, I figured "Townie confirmed' targets were more likely to get NK'ed by scum and same thing with "Scummier targets", so I tried to pick middle of the road people, who I felt were still Townier than scummy in my book, and just kinda observe and see how they did. That was pretty much my reasoning for why I picked most of the people I did. I hope that Helps. And again, toNight if I survive, I'll leave it up to you guys- if you want me to put devices I can, if you're freaked out about the whole device thing, I'm not compulsory. I don't HAVE to target people. I can certainly not target anyone.

Your clue would have been the same since you were targeted Night 1, any new information/players etc would not have influenced it since that moment. That would kind of make sense. At the time of me getting the device, there would be storyteller, Hoopy, Ed, and Pleo on the spoiler boards and all of them would get a kick out of making fun of Hal/sheepiness. However I have no idea what kind of "clue" it would be....yeah, I definitely think insight into your role PM would be helpful. There are two hold-backs to me being super suspicious of Hal. One: he voted Pleo and killed Batman by association. Two: Idle's persistent voting of him. I understand pizzaguy voted for Idle, so it's a huge case of WIFOM...but I'm hesitant to vote for Hal for both those reasons although he is looking more and more scummy as time progresses. I'm not familiar with that one. What's the Jack-of-all-trades role like? Like someone who has multiple powers at their disposal? Because that makes me think of Pleonast/Joker who seemed to fit THAT sort of a bill. Jack of all Trades is usually someone who has a lot of one-shots: one-shot investigation, one-shot protect, one-shot kill. Can do a little bit of every power role. ---- I'm going to have to sit and think on this. I'm not entirely convinced this is a real role, and am more inclined to believe that the devices are related to some sort of mad bomber role. The idea that the bombs give out "clues" that you don't know how to interpret really strikes me as odd. It feels like an overly complicated role that was pulled out of a bum as a cover. In fact, it kind of reminds me of a role Roosh pulled out of his bum once: in the Apocalypse game I hosted where he pretended to be an amnesiac and made shit up all game to hide the fact he was scum. I don't have any idea why that suddenly popped into my head, though. I'd be a lot more comfortable leaving SBrown alive if at least one device was detonated toDay, two would be even more helpful because it would only leave two devices in play. Plus, I'm thinking if it's harmless detonations that lead to the bomber's win condition, it's probably less likely to be PFK are more likely to be third-party.

I've nothing against a mass claim, and since SBrown has started the ball rolling, so let's see what the device does - assuming SBrown's claim was sufficient to light the "e", this should light the "i" - so whoever claims next will set it off.
The "Is it Wayne, again? Or someone else in the suit?" was what made me think after Ed's death that the batsuit could be passed on.

And there's Hush. Considering all the PFKs from the last game have turned up scum/third-party, I'd be willing to bet Hush is town and Bill's claim is truthful. Plus Bill has been acting townie for the most part.

So Im just think about this. The devices being triggered don't really do us any good. I mean we might have triggered the device, or not. And yet we won't know for today and we won't know until after a lynch. You would think that there would be a better way to do this. I don't know what to do, or what to "" work on "" .

I'm back. Please also consider this if you will. Actions, motivations, vote records all speak louder than just words. I'm not stupid. So why did I claim when I did if I was PFK? Pollux- you had just stated that you felt Scathatch was the suspicious one for the Devicer, and Texcat had also just posted that She thought the devicer was " scathach, Gad, Meeko, or Mahaloth." Both of these were done well before (15+ mins) before I claimed devicer. If I was PFK, or a Mad Bomber sorts, the smart play would be to wait, let you- pollux build your case on Scatchatch, and also to wait it out at night, knowing that the Vig/killing role of Texcat isn't likely to be Vigging me anytime soon. I am also not really high on anyone's radar/getting a lot of votes lately. The smart PFK move is to wait it out, and I could easily last 1-2 more Days/Night cycles, with chances to target people. So what's the PFK motivation of having NO heat, not in the Vig's sight, and not even the likeliest suspect to out themselves? Please give me some credit there. I claimed because I knew you were barking up the wrong tree- both of you. And though I don't know Scatach's role, She's apparently not likely to be scum. And I don't need the Vig offing a group of people that may contain townies/may contain scum if she's trying to find the "PFK" mad bomber. I know by claiming I'm immediately putting myself to the forefront of lynch targets, I know I'm easy to try to build a case on or to try to WIFOM that "Oh, she must be scum or a Mad bomber" and to try to propagate that lynch forwards by scummier or lazier members even. And I know I'm putting myself into the Vig's crosshairs as well. All when I had NO heat on me, and no reason to do so- I even claimed early enough so that we still have around 48 hours to find Scum and a suspicious lynch target rather than have last min. voting confusions. So I can only help you guys so much, please look at my actions, and then please also try to consider both sides. I know my role LOOKS like a Mad Bomber, and I KNOW I can't really try to dissuade many of you of that- but at least judge me by my actions and behavior. I've always been trying to help the Town out, and I would rather you guys see that than me trying to convince you of it over and over. So if you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them, but I'm not going to try to pull up posts or anything to try to "convince you" I'm town noisily. I want to help, and I will try to be available as much as possible though. That said, I am perfectly willing to continue to detonate my device toDay. And since Story hasn't shown up yet. I will post my full RoleClaim.

I understand pizzaguy voted for Idle, so it's a huge case of WIFOM...but I'm hesitant to vote for Hal for both those reasons although he is looking more and more scummy as time progresses. This is why I hypothesized if Hal might have been something else besides scum- he could be a power role, a survivor, or yes, a possible PFK. I'm just saying his "expected' behavior has switched since receiving the device, and it's more self-preservatory. I feel he is less likely an Investigative role, because if he was, he probably would have come forth and given his results if he had the device on him. But he hasn't and he's stayed more back rather than forwards. Hence, the suspicion that something is up. This is not the Day 1 Hal. Then again, now that he knows the device is harmless, perhaps he will be more like his usual self?

Why did you choose to use the last letter of the acrostic instead of the first? Because I could. Chronos said we could pick whatever we wanted as long as it was pertinent. And I wasn't sure if maybe he had a Riddler type of Role where he needed some sequence or had been given something. So if he said we could do whatever, I did something different. I was going to do a Fibonacci type thing, but I got tired of counting, and I didn't want to be lynched because of a typo. No one seemed to care on Day 1, that I picked the last letters- other people picked middle of their PMs, or various other portions. Mine I felt secure enough in giving out, and it was suitable enough that it'd be tough for me to find an exact quote or such to "fake" my said role as well. (I know I know, fake Role PMs- w/e, I can't really defend again that arguement).

This is the PFK version of "scum wouldn't do that," right? So a "PFK wouldn't do that?" I do get what you're saying, and it would have made more sense as a third-party to stay under the radar, especially since you seem to be close towards a device party anyway...but we can't discount the possibility. As for me bursting into sheep, I did vote for Hal on Day One, and so the peanut gallery may have been making a comment on that...although your PM doesn't quite make it clear if they design the device and its effects before or after you choose the target.

although your PM doesn't quite make it clear if they design the device and its effects before or after you choose the target. I've asked Story about this (i've sent him plenty of PMs already about this stuff back on Day 1 and 2). I choose target, the masses choose the rest after that choice is made. Whether the masses have preselected things on each of us, or vary it up as the game progresses, that I don't know. Which is why I wonder sometimes when Story has been late to getting out descriptions of the devices. If maybe I haven't been submitting my choices early enough or what. But the delays kinda intrigue me. Also, story seemed to imply that the spoiled thread chooses things, I don't know if Ex-Players are a part of it or what. Apparently there are already people in the spoiler threads though who have been watching outside the players, so I don't know how much of an influence the new players vs. the already there have in there? IMHO it seems like an interesting way to keep people involved in the game, without actually playing the game. But as a Player, It's kinda frustrating too. Especially since so far they seem to have a vicious streak with designing the devices. Toxic gas, ACME explosives, shotguns??

On first glance, I have to admit that I believe SBrown's claim. She has certainly been focused on the devices. At least it's believable that she is the bomber. Now whether she's town or not, I'm not so sure, but am willing to give her the benefit of doubt for the moment.

The one thing I will note- for a player who you've all described as "Ooh Shiny" and a "Button Pusher", it seems like Hal has displayed a 180 from his "known" playing style to how he has been playing now. I'm actually most suspicious of his behavior after having the device put on him. He's quieted down, he's certainly not trying to vote/unvote or do anything to shake his device up or let it activate further. This does not fit the description of the player you guys seemed to be describing on Day 1. I find it suspicious, because Mafia is a Team Sport, and we're not individuals- Town wins as a Town, but Hal's behavior seems a bit... selfish/protective since he's been marked with a device. He may say he thinks it's not a lethal device, but his behavior seems to be one that does not WANT to trigger the device in any way or to test how to figure it out either. Which makes me wonder if he's trying to protect something about himself/his role/powers. Yes! Finally someone agrees that him going quiet all of a sudden is suspicious. Gonna quote this again I'm going to Vote: Hal Briston He was around earlier toDay, but didn't mention anything game related except kerosene speculation, and he hasn't been back since. It looks like someone trying to lay low after being a target of suspicion yesterday. Yep, same here...kerosene is what I smelled as well (subtract 13 from each of the two numbers in P25u39 and then run it through ROT-13, and you get C12h26, the chemical formula of kerosene). So it would seem a very safe guess that you and I were each investigated/visited by the same person these past two nights. I did some searching the other day trying to see if there was someone who had some sort of tie to kerosene in Batman canon, and I came up with several possibilities and one strong possibility. However, I kept those notes on my work computer, so I won't have access to them until tomorrow. D'oh. He waited a day to come back with the actual speculation of what he thought the kerosene was. Surely the Batmobile is pretty memorable and wouldn't actually require going back to check notes? He also never mentions what the other possibilities he said he had come up with actually were. Could be that he was waiting for approval from the scum team to come up with a theory, and one that makes him seem more likely to be town. After all the Batmobile would have no reason to visit scum right? I'm aware that this is a one off, I could also be persuaded to move my vote to sinjin later. Purely on the speculation that her being roleblocked explains the lack of extra night kill and because I tend to think Pizza isn't scum. But I'd like to go back and review all the roleblocking and roleblock claims that were going on also. Is it normal that someone wouldn't get a notification that they were roleblocked if they took no action? I could also cheerfully vote Meeko because his reasoning all along has been incomprehensible to me. I genuinely don't understand how he could suggest all third-partys should claim (sure, then let scum pick whoever they want to recruit if they can), or that we shouldn't vote Pizza even if we think he's scummy just because he's contributing. Vote: Hal Briston [/color] She also switches opinions on Nanook/mahaloth pretty quickly: one of the reasons she votes Cookies is because Cookies was insistent they aren't confirmed, then the next Day turns right around and asks why we're treating Nanook/mahaloth as confirmed. A quick rebuttal: That's not what I said at all. I don't like her continued insistence that people being "unconfirmed" is such a bad thing. In a lot of mafia games, people don't really get 100% confirmed except by lynch or NK - so it's not the huge disadvantage she seems to imply. It seems more like an excuse to lynch into the claimed pool for the dubious benefit of "confirming" the survivors. At no point here did I imply I thought that Nanook/mahaloth were confirmed. I said that looking for everyone to be confirmed is basically a fool's errand.

I've thought you were town all game, but it really does seem like a 3rd party kind of power. Why else would it have clues to "benefit various sides". Are the clues solely provided in the colour when the device goes off or do you get PM's as well?

I was soooo looking forward to waking up to a pony this morning, but I guess Story is still having internet issues. Has DogMom been put on standby? I'm kind of waiting to find out about my device before I post too much. I've read SBr0wn in my brain as Samantha Brown because of the tv show. Hi Steph. Mahaloth would be number one with a bullet if not for the Nanook recruiting thing. Is it possible he was recruited by scum after Nanook recruited him? I have other concerns and will put them out for discussion tomorrow even if I don't get any new info about my device, ie Tuesday, not Tomorrow. I am going to to a major reread on SBr0wn tomorrow. I don't get this: I'm the device planter, don't be worried, it's all totally innocuous schtick, and maybe we'll get some info from the folks who have been deviced. Exactly what information have you gotten on the folks you've planted a device on? The sun'll come out Tomorrow So ya gotta hang on 'Til tomorrow Come what may Tomorrow! Tomorrow! I love ya Tomorrow! You're always A day A way!

My device was at -35 per Story's last count. And I promised I'd activate it tonight. <snip> 0 So we should expect your device to activate at Dusk, and mine needs one more claim for it to reach zero. We know nothing about Sinjin's device - and Hal seems to have managed not to do disturb his in the slightest. If these really are being "designed" by the peanut gallery, then I guess all they may do is re-live some of our most cringeworthy/funny moments in mafia. Both Meeko and Gadarene by claiming to have been blocked. Meeko's refusal to claim does make me suspicious of him and Gadarene has been online today but has posted nothing. So I see the merit of Pollux's vote on Meeko, and Texcat's vote on Plankton would provide information on the unaccounted for kill on N4. Scathach's vote on Hal is essentially due to Hal no longer being a gungho button pusher and engaging stealth mode. I really don't follow Mahaloth's vote on Sinjin.

First impression: SBrOwn's claim does read like that of a PFK. But I don't know if we can really trust those sorts of impressions. The one thing that's been consistent about this game is that we shouldn't take anything at face value.
So far we've killed 4 Scum, 2 3rd-Party, and 0 PFK. We've lost our 2 Masons, 4 Investigators 1 Protector, and had a second Protector and a Recruiter neutralized. At this point, it seems likely that we're not going to get any more help from our Town Powers*, so we're going to have to do this the old fashioned way: vote analysis and reading tea leaves.
So I'm going to go make myself a nice hot cup of tea and get to work. Back later...and hoping story can get back soon with a status update.
*If there is still someone out there who's sitting on a goldmine of information, now might be a good time to consider spilling it, since it looks like we're pretty much flying blind at this point.

I agree that SBrown's claim reads as PFK-y.
I don't have a goldmine of information, Suburban, but if it's time for a mass claim I will (somewhat reluctantly) join in, and add what little I've got to the pile.
