I do want to get a vote on record and I'm thinking that I'll just give FCOD what he wants. Vote Flying Cow of Doom That's very accommodating of you? Well I think I'd like the winning numbers to this weeks euromillions lottery :-) Purely as "I don't want to give FCOD what he wants" vote Vote: timmyfellinthemachine

I can't exactly talk, since I'm at the low end for thread participation, but it certainly seems to me like more voting would be nice.
I don't quite see the case against timmywhofellinthewell.
Metallicsquink strikes me as a bit shifty with the "I know I'm not scum" line. A few other things but nothing I can pull up as strong evidence.
Sister Coyote seems to be a bit distracting, though, with the suggestion to try putting TL's body in the machine.
I'm voting
Vote: Sister Coyote

My post wasn't quite clear; by 'distracting' I meant, "may be potentially trying to distract us". I'm not sure we'll see normal scum behavior in this game since the lynch is an unusual thing. So I think speculation that seems to go nowhere is less helpful.

I've reread the thread a few times, but very little comes to mind. NAF, are you a Motie? (See Niven and Pournelle, The Mote in God's Eye.) One thing that twnged me was timmyfellinthewell not voting and giving no reason. This is Mad Science Mafia, but it's still some variant on Mafia, and not voting without a reason is bad play. Vote: timmyfellinthewell Until you explain yourself.
My reason for not voting was that I mistook the difference in time zones. I thought I had an hour left but by the time I posted it was too late. I'm kind of curious to see what will happen if I'm put in the chair. From the looks of the voting I'm going to get the chance. I'll be away tomorrow morning and probably won't know until later what 's going to happen. But I don't want to miss out on voting. vote FCODFor no better reason than wanting to be voted

I've been absent, sorry, but I don't want to put someone in that volunteered. It's fishy as hell, and NAF survived, so I don't necessarily trust FCOD for wanting to try it out too.

My reason for not voting was that I mistook the difference in time zones. I thought I had an hour left but by the time I posted it was too late. Thanks. I've done the same sort of thing, so I can believe that. Consider that pointer washed out. This, however, just resets the pointer. It's not true that there is "no better reason" for you, specifically, to vote FCoD. At the time of your vote you were on three votes and FCoD two. By voting for FCoD, you create a tie. Now, it's true that this did not get you out of the chair; the player with the higher number of votes before the tie was created gets the nod, and that would still be you. But, it creates a situation where a single additional vote can get you out of the chair. So your vote is really self-defence. There's nothing wrong with self-defence as a motive; indeed I find it perfectly respectable, and have indulged in it a time or two myself, but not admitting it is your motive twings me the wrong way. Hence I'm not changing my vote. If you hadn't noticed that it created a tie, tut tut.

As the sun goes down FCOD calmly walks to the machine and sits in, escorted by three others. He grimaces a little from the mechanics, but seems relatively alright. When it finishes he's unconscious and has lost a little color from his skin, but he hasn't died.
It is now Night 2. Night 2 will end at noon eastern on Wednesday.
Final Vote Count:
FCOD (4): FCOD, metallicsquink, timmywhofellinthewell, BillMC timmywhofellinthewell (3): Sinjin, MHaye, hockeyguy Sister Coyote (1): Parzival

As the sun rises the first thing everybody notices is another charred smell. Hockeyguy's room is found in the exact same condition as Totallosts. A quick examination turns up a physician's bag, tucked in an unburned corner, and great number of pictures of Total Lost.
Hockeyguy was a physician with the ability to reduce the negative effects of the machine if he so chose. He and Total Lost were also a variant on lovers and receive a sympathetic pat on the back for managing to lose in the exact same way.
A quick headcount reveals someone else is still missing. NAF is found in his room rocking back and forth gibbering. He has been driven utterly insane.
As someone pulls his cloak off, they realize he's not exactly a man, but a composite of several sewn together. NAF is a Frankenstein Monster, an inhuman.
It is now Day 3. Day 3 will end at approximately noon eastern Sunday.
The Living: 3) Flying Cow Of Doom 5) Merestil Haye 6) BillMC 7) Sinjin 8) Parzival 9) metallicsquink 10) Sister Coyote 11) Mitey Mouse 12) Timmyfellinthewell
The Dead: 1)TotalLost: Blacksmith (resilient) 2) Hockeyguy8435: Physician (helps town through machine)
The Insane: 4) NAF1138: Frankenstein Monster (Inhuman):highlighted:

Close enough to make no difference. So is this something you learned from a PM? I can't find anything in the color about "inhuman" or "insane." Can you do anything in the game like vote or get lynched? Or are you in a state where you could choose resurrection but you've decided not to?

You know, I'm not sure the machine will kill anyone, though obviously we have someone killing at Night. But I don't know what that means.
Also, I am intrigued that we have both humans and inhumans...and one wonders what else.

NAF needs to stop speaking during the day. He's effectively dead. There's a difference between dead and insane, but it's not one most players need to worry about.

This is interesting, indeed. I'm thinking that NAF must be able to be resurrected which is why we don't know his role or alignment. What we don't know is if his insanity was some delayed reaction to the machine or due to something that happened to him last Night (or maybe some combination of the two).

What we don't know is if his insanity was some delayed reaction to the machine or due to something that happened to him last Night (or maybe some combination of the two). That basically is his role and alignment. There's not much else to tell. He had a wandering conditional night action. It's really hard to put that into a soundbite, and that's basically all he knew anyway. It's not easy to explain some of my more non-standard roles. Also in the interest of keeping resurrection semi-transparent, I'll state if someone is removed and can't be resurrected. Everyone who has been removed so far can be resurrected.

Now we have some interesting stuff to chew on.
Was hockeyguy the one making the Machine not kill/harm people, and if so, is the next one to be lynched potentially in real trouble?
Are the 'Inhuman' scum or a separate faction?
NAF grew an extra arm, which fits in with his role color. FCoD lost color from his skin. It makes me wonder a little if he's undead, perhaps a vampire type. It might explain why he wanted to go in the machine.

Where is mitey mouse? She (he?) hasn't voted at all yet in this game. What's up with that? I can forgive a player for missing a vote once, but twice in one game is a definite problem.

Now we have some interesting stuff to chew on. Was hockeyguy the one making the Machine not kill/harm people, and if so, is the next one to be lynched potentially in real trouble? So hockeyguy protected NAF? Or did he protect the rest of us from the machine's radiation? I'm not sure I follow that. Or do you mean Hockeyguy could revive a player after they've been in the machine? Like make them human again. Perhaps they become the anti-Town faction, after going into the machine. In that case, does this become a "lottery" type game? Send a Townie into the machine each night until the last Townie remains, and they win? According to the setup: There is one lucky player who will enter the machine and allow the others to leave. So it's not about finding the scummiest player to lynch: It's about finding the one player to enable Town to win. Can they hurt us? Will sending them back into the machine kill them, or make them more of a threat? And should we even attempt to send them back into the machine since they've been there once and the game is still going. Obviously we haven't found the "lucky" player.

My feeling is that if hockeybuy diminished 'negative effects' of the Machine, that he was preventing worse things from happening to those who went in. Perhaps without that NAF and/or FCoD could have been out of action. Since there's a resurrection mechanism, perhaps NAF would have grown a third arm and also gone insane. Perhaps the insanity was a delayed mechanism, and FCoD's doomed tomorrow.
Keep in mind that's speculation. I have no special knowledge.
I still think the game is something like traditional Mafia. There's some elements that have already and will continue to kill people, call them 'scum' if you will. The only way we as a group might stop them is with the Machine.
I propose that if anyone wants to go in the Machine, they need to give us an explanation, either a full claim or a detailed description of what they think its effects will be on their character, since some of the color appears to reflect on that.
