Hard to say, but I had forgotten that Dio was scum and had the same reaction. I am frustrated by towns scum hunting abilities though, as well as their ability to act like good townies. It is getting too easy to be scum these days. I guess that's why we were night killed and they were not. Honest! HA! I guess that's true.

And drainbead starts the calls to get Pleonast on the lynching block.
It will be interesting to see if storyteller follows along or tries to derail it and whether he has guessed what Pleonast's role is.

Where is everyone??
Are the town really going to let the scum just walk all over them?

I think Roosh has missed a point or two.
In an open game, where everyone knows the rules and the conditions, lying to save yourself is a really dumb idea. Because, other people with the same power will pick up on it and if you lie will consider you scum. Thanks to his actions, he has pretty much exposed at least one other minor doctor.
You can get away with it in a closed game, although it leaves yourself open if you slip up later on.
Personally, I disagree with Hal B and Roosh. Acting like scum only hurts the town.

That reminds me...I need to decide how much of a bastard I should be to Pleonast, since he mentioned that he talked to me about the whole claiming business, and suggested he had information only a power role would know.
If he had been a plain townie, I would have publicly posted my ruling along the lines of: "The power roles know what does and doesn't constitute claiming."
I am feeling benevolent for the moment, so I may let him slide, but still.

I am feeling benevolent for the moment, so I may let him slide, but still. I think let it slide, he hasn't really claimed any power for himself, just what he has spoken to the Mods about. But he has hinted that he does have a role which loses power through claiming, just not which role it might be. He hasn't been any near as obvious as Roosh. Oh, and if no-one targets him tonight, chalk up a really obvious miss to the scum. Kat is going to have some fun tonight trying to work out who to protect, although it will probably be Roosh. I am still betting the Peasant Smurf gets lynched tonight.

Kat shouldn't protect Roosh. Kat should protect Kat. She not only needs to try and prevent kills, but she also needs to protect her power. Dying and losing her power is worse than having Roosh or anyone else die.
As for Pleonast. If the line for Roosh truly was stepping past 'footwear' into 'shoes.' Then Pleonast isn't anywhere near that line. Though I do see DBI's point.

Then Pleonast isn't anywhere near that line. Though I do see DBI's point. This is the one game where I would say her protect power is less use than her ability to be confirmed as a townie. With three night kills, she should be trying to anticpate the scum and block their kills to give the town a chance. If she doesn't feel she is a target, I think she should actively try to block a likely scum target. Sitting back and hoping isn't going to help the town. Now wait for night, when she gets knocked off by Hockey Monkey while blocking someone else.

I agree that becoming a confirmed townie is more powerful. However, in the absence of a roleclaim, Kat should protect Kat. That way she knows that she can become a confirmed townie Tomorrow. Dead Kat can't become a confirmed townie (well, not a living one).

An interesting point of note, the last 20 man game "Asylum Lane" had less posts on Day 1/2 than this one. But then they were shorter in length.
I wonder if we have got used to a few people driving the conversation forward and when absent the game just seems to drag. I think the other difference is the amount of time per day.
Of course, Roosh has done himself no favours as it is unlikely he will be listened too much due to his Day 1/Day 2 actions.
I would really suggest cutting it down to a 3 or 4 days per Day instead of over a week. Turn the pressure up on the players to post something or regret it.

Post by NAF1138 on Feb 12, 2008 14:10:32 GMT -5
Yeah, it is interesting to see what more time in the Day does to the game. I think in future games I put together Day 1 and 2 will be long (7-10 days) and all following Days will be short (I am thinking 4 days max.) The first long Days will get all that start of game bullshit out of the way faster (earlier in the game), and then the pressure turns up.
Also, I think atarus's vote for no lynch might be the best thing town can do right now.
But it will probably get him killed.

Gotto love this new tactic the town has come up with.
Let's hide under the blankets and hope the scum make a mistake.
It's not like you can say, lynch the lurkers, because everyone is being silent after the Day's opening. The problem is no-one is prepared to stand up and say something after storyteller's theory was proved false.
Personally, I would have Day 1 as being a week long and then from then on maybe 3-4 days per Day to keep the tempo up.

Well, I gave town longer deadlines because I figure they'd be more reluctant to vote given the "majority or no lynch" rule.
It's hard to balance. Shorter deadlines mean that people have less time to analyze and vote for voting's sake, but longer deadlines mean people tend to lose interest.
Still, basing the deadline on the number needed to lynch should work until we get to below double digits, IMHO.

I was thinking more along the lines of the most votes at end of Day lynch scenario, instead of majority voting. I have a feeling this game will not pick up until we have some scum cross-kills. But relying on the scum to make mistakes should never be the first thing to do. I don't think it will help as there have not been enough scum tells to pick up on, but it might get the town talking. Get out there and poke a few people, get some discussion going. Go for scum slips and get people talking. It's too easy being dead

But I think, after watching You-Solve-It and this one, I have come to the conclusion that more time does not always mean more analysis. More potential analysis, not not more analysis. I think the potential for lag is a greater threat then the potential analysis is a boon.

You know, I'm surprised that no-one has picked up on the fact Cookies said she would do an analysis of NAF1138 which has now vanished in to the ether.
It's a shame that no-one did an analysis of NAF1138 at all, because it could have provided some clues.
I'm really surprised no-one did what I did and did a full list of everyone and how they feel. It's not like there are that many posts to go through.
Ho Hum.

I agree with CatInASuit. Ever since storyteller explained his M2 strategy of saying he trusts townies to gain their confidence, I think the Town players have taken his words to the detrimental extreme. Town needs everyone to state who they trust and who they do not trust; and force scum to do the same. It isn't that this type of information should be avoided, but that Town must be wary of how scum will play with that information.

Damn. I hope they listen to me about hawkeyeop. The case against me was weak and easy, perfect for scum opportunism. I was pretty sure that both diggit and diomedes were scum as well, because they made such weak-ass cases against me. I only hope that everyone else thinks it's transparent now. I did not have access to this thread when I made my one Night post, too--this is my first trip there. That's how strongly I felt that I was right about hawkeye. I just wish I hadn't gotten sick, then I would have had time to do a write-up of him. I just had no clue that people were going to swing things so quickly.

I'm right there with you, NAF. I think I was pretty much broadcasting "HEY I'M VANILLA TOWN" but that's just me. When I told diggit (or was it Diomedes?) to meta-game it just a little bit, I was serious. It doesn't surprise me in the least that scum was mostly behind my lynch.
The sad thing is, by the time I pieced everything out, I had both Pleonast and storyteller pegged as power roles, too. Gah. Whenever people say that lying is a good play for a power role, I'll point to this game as an example for why nobody should ever lie in a way that they could get caught. Roosh lying about his role as Inara was genius. Roosh lying about how to claim in this game was crippling.

Kat has done a phenomenal job--I didn't have her pegged at all one way or the other, which is as it should be.
This Night will be crucial. Already hockeymonkey has done the right thing. We'll see how the protections break down.

Without Hockey Monkey taking the action that she has, the town would be in a really bad state in the morning. Let's hope we get some cross kills instead. Although, is it wrong of me to start cheering for the scum, given the current townie play?

Although, is it wrong of me to start cheering for the scum, given the current townie play? Eh, I don't know. Normally I would say go for it, but I haven't seen any evidence of really great play on the scum's part...just really bad play on the towns. Oh and, because we have given her such a hard time about the SDMB game I think it is important to add... go Hockey! Get down with your vig self.

For our amusement, the true voting pattern for the day,
Final vote count: drainbead (9) - Diomedes, diggitcamara, hawkeyeop, RoOsh, Kat, ComeToTheDarkSideWeHaveCookies, pygmyrugger, nesta, Pleonast No Lynch (3) - atarus, drainbead, , mhaye, Peasant Smurf (1) - storyteller0910,
No Vote (3) - Greedy Smurf, Hal Briston, Hockey Monkey

As for Hockey Monkey, good on her, may the scum recalibration vibes prove useful. She seems to be good at playing these roles too.

I guess it's not an SMDB mafia game unless somebody posts to the wrong board...fortunately I think everybody who's been spoiled is no longer playing, so it doesn't affect things on this side too much, but...
Next time I run a game, I totally am going to make that "don't discuss ongoing games off-board" rule more explicit.
